Pennsylvania Counseling Services – Harrisburg Detox and Rehab Services

Pennsylvania Counseling Services – Harrisburg is recorded as offering intensive outpatient and outpatient care. Structured outpatient runs to a schedule while people return home in the evening. A proper assessment sets the level rather than leaving it to guesswork, and it is worth asking for one explicitly.

The record does not show integrated provision, so confirm this if it matters. Medication and talking treatment run together under clinical oversight. It is worth asking how many hours a week the program runs, because that decides whether it fits around everything else.

Pennsylvania Counseling Services – Harrisburg Address, Location and Contact Information

The site is at 297 Care Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 17109. This address falls in Dauphin County. The site also serves the surrounding area, and anyone traveling in should confirm the route before setting out. How someone gets there matters more than it sounds: travel is one of the commonest reasons a course of treatment stops partway.

Phone ahead about parking, access and what the first appointment covers. Where travel is difficult, ask whether an initial appointment can be held remotely. Where no one answers, leaving a message and calling again later usually works better than giving up.

Beware of this place. Billing and front office don’t have a clue of what they’re doing. The therapist will guilt you into thinking something is wrong with you just to keep draining you of money. Don’t go here if you… care about your mental health.

A few years back I started working with them and was overwhelmed by the amount of understanding and care I received it felt so good to be heard. I even gave a 5 star rating at the time because they had done so much for… me. Well I felt that because they have helped me they might be able to do the same for my son. Boy was I wrong and I am absolutely beyond any doubt PISSED! ..... From day one all the therapist wanted to discuss was him having Fibromyalgia although he had never received the actual diagnosis we only felt he might have it. So began this whole well you should do this for it and do that for it because it is what I do for mine. Or it's what someone I know is doing for theirs. So why am I pissed you ask? A) the therapist was playing doctor for a diagnosis he never received. B) she then would backtrack and say oh well not that I am saying you have it. C) every appointment after that always comes back to his pain not his mental health in general. YES he has pain it is very real. YES we felt that perhaps he might have some mental health issues that were contributing to it. It's a vicious cycle the worse you feel physically the more it affects your mental health and vice versa. He did receive a psych eval and began working with Dr. Witman (amazing individual) she is the medication side of it all. And just like she did with me she began the process of finding the right med or combo of meds that would help him. ... However my kiddo was getting very frustrated with the therapist and her nonsense. She wasn't dealing with anything that caused his mental health issues all she focused on was the pain he was experiencing like how the exact hell is that going to help him? He needed her to help him deal with his past and start the process of healing. She isn't a pain management specialist. He decided that he just couldn't work with her any longer he was not getting any benefit from it. So he told her that he no longer wanted the therapy services but that he did want to continue with med management. He was dropped from both because apparently if he did not continue with therapy he work with the psych doc for the medication side of treatment. Had he known that little gem in advance he might have simply asked if he could work with a different therapist and found some benefit to talk therapy. No treatment means no meds, no meds means increased depression and anger and whatever else comes along with his diagnosis. They didn't even offer him the opportunity to work with someone else so that he could continue to receive help. THIS IS BULLSHIT. ..... I am fighting every urge I have to call them up to let them know exactly what I think. It's the if you can't say anything nice say nothing at all deal. And right now I have nothing nice to say. I have had to edit this post four times to take out certain words. I really hope they see this. I wouldn't be here if I had not gotten the help when I did. But I guess my son doesn't matter to them.

Honestly this place is an absolute mess! They scheduled us for an initial appointment with a therapist then the therapist calls us to reschedule it when we show up for the appointment there’s no appointment in the book!… After waiting for a call back from the therapist and no callback two days later I call and they tell me that therapist is no longer with them!!! So then I’m sent to scheduling again and the scheduling people tell me there’s nothing within 30 days at that office and they cannot see the schedules past 30 days so keep calling back so ridiculous. They are an absolute mess. Their scheduling is an absolute mess and it is a waste of your time don’t go here.

I was a patient under two separate counselors via PCS. Both of the individuals were mediocre therapists. But my real problem, and why I ultimately left, is because of billing/registration. Onboarding paperwork is a… nightmare; expect your first two sessions to be devoted entirely to paperwork. My therapist then ended the second session after 40 minutes of this "onboarding" with no actual therapy involved. And yes, you will be paying for the whole hour (they wouldn't even see me without a credit card on file). Beyond that, expect about 10-15 minutes of the sessions to be spent in silence as the couselor attempts to schedule your next appointment/make notes on their computer. And worst of all, communication from billing was non-existent as they randomly charged my credit card whenever they felt the insurance didn't pay enough (after two instances of this I called and cancelled my account). I get that it's not a charity, but jeez.

This place cares about one thing: MONEY. If you're even $20 behind they'll cancel your appointments so they can schedule ONLY those who can pay their co-pay in full. I have a $40 copay and could only pay half one week… so they cancelled my next 3 appointments. Never mind that I have surgery coming up. and I have PTSD related to surgery. They say they are sorry for this but "thats just policy". They dont care about your mental health- only that they get every cent they can. STAY AWAY!

Had a consultation and it went well. After that I was instructed to complete the required documents and then he will get back with me to schedule an appointment. I never heard back from Duronn. I called the office twice… and left messages and he returned my calls. This was very disappointing and unprofessional. I would not recommend him if you need counseling and help getting better.

First session went well. During the second session I felt like I was either going to pass out or have a panic attack and so I was lying on the floor and I wasn’t able to get up because I felt sick and everything was… spinning. My therapist told me that I needed to get up and leave because our time was up. No assistance or help was offered.

I was told by my therapist I’d be referred to psychiatry after 3 sessions. I received therapy here weekly for 5+ months, and frequently asked about when I’d be referred to psychiatry as I have been in psychiatry since I… was 15 and am very much in need of their services. Each time I was told there would be an update next week, that my therapist would be speaking to her boss, etc. I never once got any sort of real update. Just constantly being led on for important, necessary medical services. I’m writing this because I think this is really dangerous. I have been suffering with my severe depression, bipolar, anxiety, and PTSD for nearly six months alone, and my therapist knew that. This could’ve really hurt someone and I’m glad it happened to me and not someone else.

I went there for 9 years and am considering going back. My therapist really listened to me and would even go a few minutes longer in sessions if that meant she could help me more. I really felt the sessions helped me… throughout daily life.

Devan Seawood4 years ago

The therapists at this clinic are supportive and make an effort with their clients. Unfortunately, the psychiatrist does not value what the client needs for their own mental health and wellness. If you expect to be… listened to and taken seriously when seeking medication, this is not the place. Advocate too much for yourself and they may just consider you a ‘pill-pusher’. Edited to add: the psychiatrist now charges $40 to have any paperwork written for you - this place extorts the poor and mentally ill and she can’t even bother pretending to seem interested in you. Good luck!

While the service is great, 2 therapists have left for better opportunities in under 6 months. I find that the employees here are overworked and underpaid (an observation, no employee has ever complained to me) so… leaving seems to be the best option and that’s 100% understandable. However, the revolving door of therapists makes getting better difficult.

I have been calling to set up an appointment and never get a response. I was put on a wait list and never heard back then I called again and the receptionist insisted on me leaving another voice message even though I… told her I never heard back. Again I still haven’t heard anything. Very disappointing when I am trying to reach out for help and they don’t seem to be bothered or care

I came here for a mandatory CRN eval. After getting a second eval done elsewhere I would tell anyone in the same situation to try another establishment. They asked invasive questions that were not relevant to the reason… I was there. The same questions were not asked of me at the other establishment. PCS will absolutely force you in to a 12 week program. Go somewhere else.
