If I could rate this place at 0 stars I would. North Star is an expanding business where clients are very expendable numbers, not people in need of help. I have been to treatment at this location a couple different… times and had property stolen that was in STAFF'S POSSESSION twice! I was also sent to the hospital for medical reasons, subsequently discharged while I was there, came back and found out after the fact—and I had to find my own way back to the facility as there was no staff available to pick me up from the hospital. I also witnessed multiple instances of theft between clients that was routinely shrugged off by North Star's staff, threats of violence, and multiple actual fights. North Star Regional has become more and more like Meridian and NuWay, both of whom were forced to shut down programs for various reasons; they are an ever-expanding business focused on keeping their "census" numbers up to snuff, meaning beds filled. If you are in need of substance abuse treatment and are serious about recovering, please avoid this place like the plague!

The lead technician is not friendly, plays favorites, and spends more time playing cards and vaping than being approachable and helpful. Nurses and many other techs are wonderful. Please fix the dryer. It was broken my… whole stay.

Showed up blew 0.00 no withdrawal symptoms yet I was sent to withdrawal management a transition place before treatment. Can smoke inside have your phone and just transition. BULLSHIT it's detox. Everything was a lie… goto twin town in st Paul if you actually want help. Mackenzie at the front desk is an angel, food ok, but no structure no staff and no accountability. Hire more people like Mackenzie and maybe it'll be an ok place. But Northstar as a whole was a joke in my experiences. If you're a believer in God and no mental health issues this is your spot but at night 1 yup 1 employee handing out meds no nurse and confinement to your room at 10pm twin town in st Paul not this cash grab

This place saved my life. I initially wrote a poor review but after some time to think about it with a sober mind, I realized I was being ungrateful and only focused on the negative. There's a lot of great staff at… NorthStar doing their best to help people achieve lifelong sobriety. I definitely recommend this place.

There was no zero star or I would of hit that it's the worst place ever when I got there I told them I had asthma and needed an inhaler I kept asking for a week they told me it has not came in it on the 8th day I… started to have an asthma attack I went to nursing station said I need an inhaler they said they did not have one I started hyperventilating and said I need one the nurse straight up looked me in eyes and said we can't do nothing for you 2 clientswho witnessed this said I think someone upstairs has one and only 1 client had a rescue inhaler it took several minutes to get my breathing under control then I had a toothache I asked for 9 days for the nurse to make an appointment on the 9th day I finally said something to one of the other workers and he went in and made her make an appointment which I went to a week after that and had a major infection in my mouth by then. And after that I went to go take my meds and found out they conveniently forgot to order them so I went 3 days without them. My counselor did nothing for me never gave me any work at all. I saw 15 people come back after they went to there halfway houses and relapsed. I was told it was a 30 day program and went there thinking that cause I have a 19 month at home and I had my job waiting on me but when it got close to that date they said no it's a 35-45 day program I said I need to get home cause we are gonna lose daycare and I'm gonna lose my job but they said oh well. But I seen 6 people graduate before the 30 day mark after I was told it's 35-45 days. This place is garbage the guy that runs it straight trash the medical staff straight trash. I tapped out I called my PO and he let me leave early and on a holiday after my counselor admit to everything that happened. I filed a grievance and they never even got back to me. They only care about the money it's why they try to send everyone to there facilities after graduation. I set up my wn aftercareo

Needs investigation. A patient died in facility and wasn’t found for about 30 hours after. Meals are like elementary school kids meals. All good staff quit. Eden Prairie is a nice location and facility but very very… poorly managed. This facility should not be in operation. Clients left unattended numerous times for a couple hours at times and nobody there to give out medication.

So I just wanted to say this. I just came out of inpatient 2 days ago and left 3 weeks early due to the fact that the counselor that I had didn't even really know what to talk about. I mean for crying out loud we were… talking about our favorite dessert in one of the groups. The mental health group leader couldn't really carry on a full conversation and I tuned him out most of the time because we really didn't talk about anything. When I brought it up to the director the director told me that there might be something that I need to change within myself. The food was absolutely horrible there. A staff member that was in charge of giving out pills the day before I left decided to give me two gabapentin instead of one because I was leaving the next day. Plus to top this all off one of the clients was sneaking up behind people and consistently flirting with a bunch of the clients, they did nothing about it. Northstar you need to seriously look into your staff and who you accept into your facility..... Not impressed at all!!!

The ABSOLUTE WORST LEADERSHIP I've entered encountered at any business. There is internet theft taking place daily that no one does anything about. I filed a police report, and yet nothing was done internally about the… theft taking place. DO NOT GO HERE!!

Front desk staff Haley is EXTREMELY disrespectful to family members/significant others. Communication skills really need to be worked on. This is my THIRD encounter with her either in person or over the phone and… everytime she has been rude. If you want to send your loved ones to a place where staff truly care about them and their healing do not send them here. I'd hate for more families to have to deal with an individual like herself.

If you’re trying to get help, you’ve come to the wrong place. My dad picked up my belongings, and they gave him 2 full garbage bags (my stuff came in a suitcase, apparently they just dumped it all in a garbage bag). One… of the bags did not belong to me. When we called to tell them they messed up, they told us to bring it back! Of course we told them “not our problem.” It took them a week to come pick up the other bag. Some poor victim of Northstar was without his belongings for a week because these people don’t care. Tried Northstar Otsego a month later and they were even worse. Avoid any Northstar facility if you care about your health.

My significant other was a client here twice. Our first experience was horrible and they treated him as if it would be better if he were not a client here, and after making him feel like he had to throw away half of his… belongings ended up letting him put his extra things in storage anyway. Then this time, he was just discharged, with only a week left because he received a pass to go his very ill father. It was a 6 hour pass, which I picked him up for and I was about 10 minutes late. When dropping him off, there was a horrible accident and complete bumper to bumper traffic, so we were 15 minutes late. We did call to let them know we were gonna be 10-15 minutes late at which time he was told it's inexcusable and not okay, just to get here and for them to say he can't even go in and get his belongings, we had to wait for them to pack it up. Absolutely would not recommend to anyone. You only get one visit and are not even allowed to have your kids come visit you here either.

I attended in September of 2023 and my experience there was mixed to put ot it firmly. Counselors were for the most part kind but unorganized. Showing up to group late, which some clients got the notion they could show… up late. Several times they didn't even know who or where the group was being held. We (clients) had an outline schedule for the week that was incorrect, so we just had to follow our certain groups to where the majority was meeting. Certain techs were rude to clients with rude comments and actions that were over the line. The director was what I thought just money hungry and wouldn't consider any suggestions or complaints from clients. The director was also a counselor assigned to some clients which he hardly made time for because obviously he enough "on his plate". He treated us like children and did not treat us with any respect. So with that not much respect was given in return. Now for the front desk. They were just there to check people in and answer phones, but I can tell you from personal experience that answering phones was seemingly a tough task to follow. After leaving I would call every other day to see if I had any mail there and they would answer the phone maybe 1/10 times or would just pick up and hang up without even answering! Annoying was an understatement. Now the food was something else, if you love chicken you'll love it because it was served 5 days a week. I felt for the diabetics, there diet plan was obsolete to say the least. They complications were all over the place and nursing couldn't figure out why. Fortunately i don't have diabetes . The nursing overall was fabulous especially Britt, she wi go above and beyond to get your medications even if you couldn't afford them! She gets a gold star and my counselor Dave gets the other gold star for my RATING!

I cannot speak for myself I can only speak for my son who has "chosen" To seek help there once again. It makes a huge difference if you are sentenced to be there Or if you go there by choice!! Next to teen challenge,… this is the best place to go in Minnesota. No matter where we go, it's only gonna work for us if we really "want" the help

Once in a while everybody that truly struggles with addiction needs help. No treatment center is perfect, if you’re looking for perfection then stay at home with mom but you won’t get better. NorthStar is not perfect by… any means but, speaking from personal experience, the people at NorthStar genuinely and authentically care about what you do with the rest of your life. If you’re lucky enough to get in, don’t you dare take advantage of these people, but instead take advantage of the opportunity you’ve been given. These folks are a godsend. Get yourself together man. They will help if you’re willing ❤️

Worse treatment center I've been in. Got covid and put in quarantine in my bedroom. Got no help from staff. Counselors and other staff members quit and went to competing facilities. The program director Rich is a joke,… never seen a more blatant money grab if you're serious about receiving help for addiction don't come here, it is better than jail or prison, I guess.
