About Ku Aloha Ola Mau – Hilo
Ku Aloha Ola Mau operates from 900 Leilani Street in Hilo. The site sits in Hawaii County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Keaau, Pahoa and Papaikou. Hawaii draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.
Intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, an opioid treatment program and telehealth appointments. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Treatment Services at Ku Aloha Ola Mau
Intensive outpatient and outpatient care run to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.
Buprenorphine and methadone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Ask what happens at the end of the program as well as the beginning, since that is where plans usually thin out. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Ku Aloha Ola Mau Reviews and Ratings
Reviews are where patients and families describe Ku Aloha Ola Mau in their own terms: the welcome at admission, the counseling, the planning for life after treatment.
Reading them is a sensible step before calling the Hilo facility. Writing one, if you have been treated there, helps the families who come next.
Came from out of state to guest dose here and the process was seamless and easy. Very nice people and a great island all the way around to visit. Loved the whole island all the way around. And usually I dont post… reviews but I had planned a trip previously to Tennessee which is where my sister lives. And I was guaranteed through my drs and the drs in Tennessee they everything was approved to go smoothly. Except when I got there nurses said they spoke to nurses who lied and said they didnt and they whole entire mess ruined the trip. So I wanted to make sure I gave this clinic a sparkling ✨️ review because when you're in a program that you depend on and you check all the boxes and do everything you should then things should go as promised. This clinic helped make the trip happen the way that it should. And I commend the nurses, drs, and staff members that help people like me every single day. 😊
C. Laboy. I thank God for this place . Staff are very helpful. Been going there almost 2 years and never had a problem .
Love this place the staff are amazing people love you guys will never forget you hopefully I get to come back to the island
Nothing in life is ever perfect but seeing as WE NEED this FACILITY as bad as we do (as all cities do )it is as perfect as it could be . Certainly miss a good receptionist that was such an asset to the clinic but They… come and go that’s life . Things have changed over the years at ku aloha and it just keeps ticking with the time keeping up with this life ya know . For the most part it’s fast and drama free service and a blessing for all the ppl who want to be free from substance abuse . My councilor and the head nurse are as perfect as they come and I’m over thankful for this place .
FIRST OF ALL THE ABOVE POST IS BS THEY'VE ONLY TAKEN A 20 MIN LUNCH BREAK 1X PER DAY BETWEEN 8AM AND 820 THE ENTIRE TIME I HAD BEEN GOING! THEY DESERVE THAT! 27 years I have been attending this clinic Ku Aloha Ola Mau… has the most relaxing atmosphere, great staff, and caring councilors. In and out wait time due to its a small town/small population. But be aware its the only methadone clinic on the island (Big Island). And out of all the islands there are only 3 clinics i know of 2 on Oahu and the 1 here Ku Aloha. Plan your travels wisely.
Dr. Puaa is one of the best doctors I've known in 25 years of seeing a myriad of doctors and specialists throughout my life. He is knowledgeable, compassionate, cares about the healthy, safety and comfortability of his… patients. He goes out of his way, giving out his person cell number to make sure his patients do not go without their meds nor miss an appointment. He took someone an hour after the clinic closed cause the guy couldn't get into town until that time. He met me at the pharmacy to speak with the pharmacist at 11pm at night after I got outta the hospital when there was a medication issue and made sure I got what I needed and got safely to my car (being a young, petite female, late at night in a dark parking lot). He is truly exceptional, professional, communicative and compassionate. Very rare gem to find these days in the medical profession. Highly recommended imho
Not handicapped accesable as you must walk up two flights of stairs to speak with a counselor , this was an ongoing problem for me. The clinic does a fantastic job of helping folks with addiction , the Dr is a very… caring man , the nurse that dispenses meds is efficient and friendly and the other clients are a pleasure to meet. My only complaint is that the "counseler" Linda that I was assigned to had minimal if any training ,she is ineffective and inefficient with any kind of paperwork. My insurance was billed for psychotherapy which she is not qualified to do on anyone. That aside I have been helped tremendously by this clinic. Mahalo Christine
Garbage, unprofessional place. The staff goes on long breaks while people wait. Clinic is seriously dirty. So ridiculous and rude. If I had any other options, I’d use them!!
Nice place, sweet people.
This place is has taken care of a problem, it works
Dr. Turban is the best in every way.
My journey thru opiate addiction treatment started on December 3, 1997 and ended on a "blind detox" on May 24, 2005. The Tx was then called D.A.S.H. @ 305 Wailuku Dr. I was introduced to the Tx concept of counseling and… group therapy which I did not know would eventually help me get out on the streets and stay clean. I continued with 12-step recovery programs and am still going to 12-step meetings for support and to hang out with my peers. I'm grateful for Ku Aloha Ola Ku (D.A.S.H.) and their tools I learned to get a life and keep a life. Thank you Dr. Rourke and your dedicated staff for all the help you gave me during my transition to a clean and sober life.
