Amarillo VA Healthcare System – Amarillo Address, Location and Contact Information
You will find this provider at 6010 Amarillo Boulevard West, Amarillo, Texas, 79106. The city lies within Potter County. People travel in from the surrounding area, and confirming the route beforehand saves difficulty. How someone gets there matters more than it sounds: travel is one of the commonest reasons a course of treatment stops partway.
It is worth calling first to confirm access, parking and the shape of a first visit. If getting there is hard, ask about a remote first appointment. Reception hours vary, so a call that goes unanswered once is worth repeating rather than treating as a dead end.

I haven’t seen my sisters in years Plan a family vacation for the first time in probably 3 to 4 years Told the VA I wanna say six times I’m not going to be in town I won’t be on the phone. I’m going to be with my… family. I got a call every other day for the whole week. Either records or everyone at the VA needs to learn how to read Because every time they called me, they had no reason why they called me other than how can I help you? I don’t know you called me. I may not be an expert in the medical field, but I understand there’s things called notes and records. I’m starting to think that nobody knows what these are at the VA because all my referrals outside, are always consistently waiting for the VA to send records or notes Meanwhile, I have three facilities outside the VA. All three of them took x-rays and all three of them said my foot was fractured. Three doctors said it was fractured but the VA wants to say it’s deformed It’s funny how the military drills these core values into you yet employees at the VA don’t understand what attention of detail or integrity are The irony
This rating does NOT refer to the CLC or clinics’ staff. Elsewhere, My husband has received very good and professional care over the years, with one notable exception in ER. He has been in the CLC since December’25 for… multiple and serious health issues. He’s 100% disabled plus affected by Agent Orange. Vietnam Combat veteran. I chose this over any of the nursing homes or the TX State Veterans home nearby. For those needing skilled nursing care, this is far better. Yes, facilities are older, needing updating and the equipment breaks down(AC and water, ice machine). It took one resident to notify local media about lack of AC (bureaucratic answer: it will be replaced starting in September. This is summer in Texas.). All of a sudden AC got repaired! This grievance does NOT apply to the direct patient care and floor staff. It has to do with management and administrative levels. There is a resident in the CLC who is NOT a veteran, has been found to fraudulently receive veterans’ benefits, was imprisoned for stealing a plane, and one-and-a-half years later is still in the CLC receiving veterans’ benefits and care. What makes this more questionable and egregious is that this individual causes a lot of disruption, has offensive and foul behavior, is a cross-dresser , assaults and threatens staff and fragile residents, sexually hsrasses especially female staff, has harassed and threatened family members, curses and threatens others with violence, even death. My husband is one of the recipients. My husband and I met with top staff over a month ago. We have to receive any feedback and the man is still there. VA police reports ( who only take reports but do not remove him)and staff incident reports are daily occurrences. Staff has had watch him and guard rooms, since he also goes into others’ rooms and is known to go through their belongings. He has violated personal space and respect, Impersonated a veteran, fraudulently used federal documents, and continues to threaten violence to others. How was he ever admitted? When found fraudulently using veterans benefits and CLC care, why was he not sent elsewhere to a facility for offenders? Yes, he’s old, but very mobile unlike most residents, and continues to create disturbances. But, why has the management and administration allowed this to continue? Why have they not acted decisively to solve this issue over 1 1/2 years. Why must other residents and the staff keep having to be the ones to handle him? When might his threats cross over into action? Why must the fragile and sick veterans, along with families, be forced to experience this? The medical professionals and the staff at the floor level do not have authority to take appropriate action and must come up with ways to handle and prevent his behavior. I believe, as do others, that upper level management and administration are performing C.Y. A. to mitigate threats to their own jobs. This man’s egregious, disruptive , and outrageous behavior is being protected. No one in the facility is owning up to it.
After hiking 4 miles with my level 4 plates and my ruck sack I went to the hospital because I was experience heat exhaustion. I explained everything that I was feeling and had done to get myself to this point. They… ended up gas lighting me saying that I smoked Canabis and that’s why I was disoriented, dehydrated, confused, and experience large amounts of pain in my head and face next to large amounts of weakness……. Why type of doctor does that??? A lazy and uneducated one. Even if this doctor was right about me smoking, Canabis has never even been reported to create heat exhaustion. Also As soon as he came into the room he was all pissed off because he couldn’t complete his nap. I could tell he was sleeping since his eyes were all red and face blushed. Everything is still tingling in my arms and legs after 5 hours. They said I can’t go anywhere else but the place where they lied about diagnoses. The doctor who did this was DZIK, JOHN P. Even the nurse Claudia was confused when she came in to read my discharge because it said Canabis usage instead of heat exhaustion. All this while Claudia said I needed more fluids. Mr. DZIK bypassed my health problems out of bias opinions and uneducated ideas. Instead of diagnosing me logically, he diagnosed me emotionally and diagnosed me completely wrong. This is why veterans kill themselves. I’ve lost too many friends from poor attentiveness when it comes to the doctors
Is a great place where I get my health care in my scrubs and everything everybody's super helpful I don't give it five stars
The website is down. Can't contact anyone..
SHORT WAIT TIME & ALL PRO PERSONELL
Was transferred from another hospital for surgery been here for four hours asked if was being admitted the woman doctor was not helpful have asked numerous times for something for pain no response they need to do better
The Amarillo VA system is amazing! Everyone treats each veteran as if they are the only patient they have. Perfection in every area. All of the staff from top to bottom are most gracious and quintessential medical… professionals. They have saved my veteran’s life. Thanks to everyone who. We are blessed to have you caring for my husband.
I was on a work trip from Dallas to Amarillo and had issues with my left eye. I went to the ER here and was attended to very quickly. The staff was very helpful and accommodating and set me up with an appointment for… the next day. In dallas, that would have taken weeks to accomplish. Very much recommend for the veterans to come here.
I've lived in 2 other cities and i feel that this VA has taken better care of me than any of the others. It's especially got an awesome podiatry team. A shout out to Dr. Nielson, Dr. Kennedy, and Roxanna Stanhope, they… really took good care of me.
Much better service in person online or on the phone.
This 1 star is not for the nurses at the VA. The nurses and staff that were assisting that day were absolutely AMAZING and took exceptional care of my father as were most of the Doctors and Residents. However, if you… see that your family member has the misfortune of having Dr. Shepard as your Doctor you might as well ask for a transfer or a discharge from the hospital. She would not listen to any concerns my father had, argued with him about what kind of pain he was in comparing her own experiences like it was a valid reason to not treat him and showed zero regard for him as a patient.
Why is the place not taking care of their veterans? All hell is breaking lose.
For the past 20 years I cannot say enough about the care I get here. From Primary Care to ICU the care I have gotten has been great.
I had surgery this morning at the Amarillo VA, and I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From start to finish, the staff was professional, calm, and incredibly kind. You could truly tell that they… care about veterans, not just as patients, but as people. Every nurse in the operating room was amazing. They explained what was happening, kept me comfortable, and made what could have been a stressful morning feel reassuring and smooth. That kind of care makes a real difference. I also want to give a special thank-you to Mitzi, who was so kind and helpful with my post-surgery care. She checked on me, made sure I understood everything, and treated me with genuine compassion. The Amarillo VA did an outstanding job today. I’m grateful for the care I received and for the people who show up every day to serve veterans with respect and heart.
I was waiting in line behind 4 other people to get breakfast at the café. Then the cook turns around at 1 minute after 1000 and announces they are no longer doing breakfast. This is a bunch of crap. One cannot get… breakfast after waiting in line. WTH. They also stopped offering different size drinks and stop offering Dr. Pepper instead they sell Mr. Pibb. I did not like that stuff in bootcamp and will not drink it now. The Cafe workers are inconsiderate and obnoxious. DO NOT EAT HERE. THE PRICES ARE GOOD BUT NOTHING ELSE IS.
Initially, I was pleased with the Amarillo VA hospital but it has failed to keep true doctors. Most everyone that I see is a PA or I have to go through community care which is also difficult because most doctors don’t… want to live in Amarillo and it is another ordeal in itself. There is apparently tons of money being spent to make the place look nicer. I wish they would have used that money to keep or hire quality physicians.
Came in with some kinda stomach bug. Couldn't keep fluids down. Things were going great until they discovered i had Marijuana in my system. I immediately became a druggie who doesn't merit care. It made me cry. I did 4… years. 2 in Iraq and came home with ptsd. So yeah. I self medicated. And got treated like garbage for it. That hurt..... alot. FYI still cant keep anything down. But I won't be treated like that. So I left. Id rather suffer
What an incredible VA medical facility. I drive 8 hours to the VA in Amarillo because it takes 18+ months or more to be seen at other VA facilities. There are veterans who travel from Albuquerque and Oklahoma City (both… cities have VA’s) to be seen at the VA in Amarillo. Oh, there was a guy who traveled from Longview, TX to the VA in Amarillo (also an 8-hour trip) because he was as impressed as I was. The VA in Amarillo has been squared away for YEARS, and I wish the VA would just copy what they are doing in Amarillo because they are THE model to follow. I used to live in South Texas and dealt with the VA in Brownsville which was a joke. It took me over 18 months to get my first appointment, and they treat you like they have better things to be doing. It took repeated phone calls to finally get an appointment in Brownsville, and that only happened because I traveled to that facility and requested to speak to a manager who got me an appointment two months later. When I called them to set up an appointment, they would always say they would have a scheduler call me (and they never would). I never received a call back. Then I moved to Austin, and I could get an appointment at VA Cedar Park two or three months later, but they would always call the week before and reschedule for a few months down the road. This kept happening until the last appointment they scheduled me for December 24, 2024. I asked them if they would be open on Christmas Eve and the scheduler assured me they would. But a week before my appointment, they rescheduled me for May, 2025. That would have been two years since I tried getting my appointment. I told them I would just switch from Cedar Park VA outpatient clinic to Amarillo. I switched my primary care to Team Independence in Amarillo. I called the VA in Amarillo and had my appointment the same week. I just completed another appointment that I requested on a Tuesday and my appointment was Thursday, two days later. On top of that, one of my hearing aids broke and while I was there for my Dr appointment, I walked over to Audiology without an appointment and they fixed my hearing aid within 5 minutes. The pharmacy is also highly squared away in Amarillo. So making the trip from Austin to Amarillo isn’t fun, but I just spend the night and get my VA appointment early the next morning so I can head home (7.5 - 8 hrs one way). It’s worth it. Everyone treats you like you are the only patient they have. I can’t say enough good stuff about this facility.
Trust me you do not want to know and besides there is nobody that gives a crap about you and their health care system it is flawed and nobodyhas an answer!
