About Area Substance Abuse Council – Manchester

Area Substance Abuse Council operates from 909 West Main Street in Manchester. The site sits in Delaware County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Oelwein. Iowa draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.

Intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, telehealth appointments and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Treatment Services at Area Substance Abuse Council

Intensive outpatient and outpatient care run to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Buprenorphine is available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Trauma-specific services run alongside, which matters where the two are tangled together. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Could not have gotten a worse rep on the phone who didn’t understand what I was asking at all and asked if I had $10,000? Genuinely speechless. I was asking a very basic question… Negative stars

Went in for a substance abuse evaluation after being caught with THC. Left feeling worse about myself than I ever had (and I didn't think that was possible). Never felt like a councilor cared so little about me than I… did there. I'm getting worse now, eating less (I'm anorexic already), paranoid, and living with nonstop flashbacks, just like they want me to. They don't want to help, they want me worse. I've never had issues stopping, but they seem to think I do. I'm apparently just another number, drug addict, ect. The ONLY reason I gave them 2 stars was because of their sliding fee schedule. I'm broke and don't have insurance that covers this. At least I'm not paying much for them to make me worse. Can't wait for my first violent outburst since I started THC. So thanks for making me worse! Definitely what I needed. Can't wait for my life to finally fall apart over smoking THC a couple times a month to help with anorexia and PTSD.

Took them 3 months to send discharge papers to DOT. Won’t return calls, rude on the phone. Definitely would never refer anyone here

Absolutely terrible. My evaluation was passed and apparently sent to the dot. Until a month later when I went to get my license, I apparently owed 2 dollar and 50 cents so it was never sent. How can they get away with… this. Money collecting business who lies to make you believe they're focusing on your health. Example, you pay for the 12 hour course and maybe spend 45 minutes in it until they tell you to call for a ride. What a joke.

SASC, now ASAC, is the same 10 years ago as it is today.... terrible. I do not recommend. Beware of Gaslighting Therapists who make false allegations and accuse you of playing games. Sad, really sad.

They just want money. Keep you coming back for months and months without just cause. Don't return phone calls like they sss they will. They do have a few good counselors or I'd give them 1 star. I've been through their… time consuming classes several times and have experienced the same issues numerous times. Couldn't make it to the appointment and left messages that day like they ask but still get put on inactive status and have to start ALL over. They need to understand people have lives and jobs that conflict w their time schedule and it's THEIR job to call you back not only on the patients end to constantly call to get a new appointment. Matt being a good counselor is the only reason I don't just switch to the alternative class at Mercy hospital. He's very good at his job (besides responding to the voicemails you leave him)
