Between residential stays, my daughter was at CFD Greenwich in their IOP and PHP programs for approx one year. There were issues at times; however, those were driven by decisions made by CFD corporate, not the Greenwich… staff (e.g., to put the program on Zoom during renovations w little notice and a revolving door of directors which was due to corporate making shortsighted hires for that position). However, my daughter's team on the ground in Greenwich was strong, particularly Sam Basilone (therapist) who is now the director of the Greenwich office. Sam is committed, caring, develops strong bonds with clients. She has good instincts and judgement and is a skilled therapist who the clients including my daughter adored. She sets a professional, motivational, and warm tone and in her new role as director is an asset to the Greenwich program. Having been through this journey, I would caution readers of these reviews not to be scared off by posts that say things like "they tried to make me go to residential." That's not how it works. If a client is not able to get well in the inpatient setting, CFD has a responsibility to recommend a higher level of care if that's what they believe the clients needs in order to get well. It's hard to hear and scary, but a part of the process. It's never abrupt or forced. It's a series of kind, thoughtful, frank conversations with the health of the client being the only driver. A highlight of the program for me were the family days on Tuesdays. Clients were able to bring a family member where we all participated in 2 group sessions lead by therapists as well as a shared dinner at a communal table. It was illuminating and valuable to me to hear people share their stories and feelings. A supportive environment was created at all meals, including those with family on Tuesdays. A staff member joined and encouraged word games to help create a distraction and lift the mood. They were usually successful. I saw the clients develop close bonds and sometimes friendships. Conveniently, 2 minutes away from CFD, is probably the best ED doctor in the tristate area or beyond, Dr Marcie Schneider who I highly recommend. Just recently she began taking insurance making her more accessible to more people. It was a positive experience. We remain in touch with Sam.
Great place. Amazing people and knowledgeable, supportive staff. Would highly recommend.
hey icons sam, caitlin, & liz are all incredible !!! they are supportive, encouraging, & want the best for their clients :)
didn’t help me and I signed myself out early because they were trying to force me to go inpatient
yes, i do not want to be here. but everyone is nice. cara, one of the two dietitians, is very funny. she challenges me and i don’t always like it, but it will probably help me. to be clear i am still here. i’m writing… this while still in php, but still. my therapist, kiran, is also very fun to talk to and always listens. you get a two sessions a week with your treatment team. you bring your own dinenr, they supply for lunch and snack. you have four groups a day to help you. the cycle menu is very repetitive but it’s fine. grace, the group facilitator is the nicest person i’ve ever met. i think i’ve gotten better here and i hope to everyone else who comes is able to get better as well!!
If you are ready to take this program seriously you can recover here. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate and driven. I trusted all of their directions for my care and it all turned out to be exactly… what I needed. On tough days they were there to boost me up and on good days they celebrated me. They were patient and understanding of the stress caused by going through recovery. I never thought recovery was possible but CDF Greenwich proved me wrong.
3-1-23: See below. The NY Times has been contacted for an expose. Courtney Duda- The facility in Greenwich is filthy and unsanitary and it would appear that the organization can not keep staff. The people there are… neophytes and unlicensed. To give me 4 weeks vacation since I would not have been utilizing your health insurance plan would have saved CFD $$$$. While there, I took photos of the unsanitary and gross rug with multiple stains and the junk in the corners and the grime on the table. Clients in this high SEC would be turned off by these abominable conditions and to learn that the clinicians are under skilled and non-licensed. I have no choice but to make my observations public and report my concerns to the State. As I question the legitimacy of any treatment that is happening there. The reviews on the internet almost all support my observations. Be well. The Riversville program, in my opinion, is a dump and your low census reflects multiple problems.
It didn’t help me and I signed myself out early because they were trying to force me to go inpatient despite not having the ability to leave my home for a few months (i live alone and i need to be able to care for my… cats) They said I wasn’t really trying and that I kept losing weight, but I was trying really hard to recover and I had been weighing myself, even tho i wasn’t suppose to at home, and according to my scale i was maintaining. The reason i’ll give it a 3 tho is, the staff knew that I was struggling with money because I was out of work, therefore buying food was nearly impossible, so they put together a bag of groceries for me, it was really thoughtful and caring. That was such a thoughtful way to help me and I really appreciated it. Me and my friend cooked the food and it was delicious! I really loved the program and think it could’ve helped. I talked very openly about my thoughts and feelings but it seemed I just drove them to want to send me to a higher level of care, which just isn’t possible for me. When I signed myself out they informed me that I would no longer be allowed to see my outpatient team because i refused inpatient, making it un-ethical for my outpatient eating disorder team to treat me. I was left with no one. My individual trauma focused therapist continued to see me but she had to jump through hoops for her supervisor to allow it and she has done more good in my life than anyone else. I’m actually in recovery now, working full time at a new job I love, in my career that the psychiatrist at CFD told me I couldn’t handle because I have a mental illness. Well here I am, i’m doing great, i’m awesome at my job, my relationships are stronger than ever, my mood has improved, and i’m navigating recovery with little professional support thanks to CFD, but i’m managing. I have extreme amounts of willpower, so im putting it to good use by proving everyone wrong and recovering despite the lack of support. I’ve learned recovery is possible even if it seems impossible, you just have to want it bad enough. Someone at CFD probably told me that but I had my head up my own a$$ the whole time anyway so I couldnt listen. Thanks again for the groceries, I appreciated them, I hope you guys still have my painting!
this cfd was terrible for me. I was dying and all they did was watch. My therapist was absolutely terrible and almost never met with me. they also had 0 communication with my op therapist (which they agreed to do) and… basically none with my parents. my dietitian was the only person who seemed to care, but that is never going to be enough. They triggered the hell out of me and didn’t even give me a chance to get better. the first thing I was told was that I was already on the waiting list for residential so it didn’t matter if I truly got better there. I was there for 8 weeks and I quickly deteriorated. this place was the worst thing that ever happened to me.
This place saved me! The staff were incredible and so caring. The way that the staff cared about each and every client was one of a kind. When you were challenging fear foods, the staff supported you through it and even… if that meant eating the same food as you! The groups were amazing and the therapists were one of a kind. After going through PHP and IOP here I no longer resented dietician’s. Php and iop gave me life long skills that have helped me maintain my recovery. I also loved how you got to plate your own meals and snacks and learn what an appropriate portion size was. I never thought I would be in recovery for over a year but thanks to CFD’s php and iop for the first time in my life I am in active recovery. Thank you to everyone who helped me get to where I am today! Eating disorders are not an easy field to be in, but the amount of lives you are saving is phenomenal. I highly recommend when you are ready smashing your scale! I smashed my scale my last day of iop (when I was truly ready) best decision ever! I believe in each and everyone of you! Sarah Meiseles
Worst place ever do not send anyone here !!!!!
My girlfriend attends the treatment. They are very comprehensive. They are open to including family members.
Was a client, benefitted a lot from it. If you have an eating disorder and are looking for a place to get started, I’d recommend reaching out.
I am trying to obtain treatment for my daughter and they are completely unwilling to make any adjustment to their treatment schedule around my work hours. They expect you to drop off at 4pm. If you can't because of… work, they don't care. So your choice is treatment or your job.
