An Outstanding Therapist Within an Imperfect System: A Nuanced Review First, the things Compass Health gets clearly right: the building is genuinely impressive. It is clean, well maintained, and welcoming in a way many… behavioral health facilities are not. The waiting area is bright and organized, and there is a dedicated children's area with a wide variety of clean toys and interactive activities that would put most parents at ease. The space for children is clearly well thought out, and the whole facility projects a sense that the environment provided to patients genuinely matters. Whoever manages the upkeep here is doing an excellent job. The most important part of my experience, though, is my therapist. Kaliesha Walker-Thompson is, without exaggeration, one of the finest therapists I have worked with across decades of mental health treatment. I had my first in-person session with her today after many previous telehealth appointments, and I left feeling genuinely lighter and calmer. She is warm, perceptive, and deeply skilled, and she creates a space where difficult topics feel safe to explore. She balances compassionate listening with practical therapeutic direction in a way that is both rare and extremely valuable. I cannot recommend her highly enough. If you are assigned to her, or can request her, I strongly encourage you to do so. I am giving Compass Health as an organization four stars instead of five because of some system level policies that work against individualized care. One example of one of these policies is a rigid organizational stance against benzodiazepines applied as a blanket rule instead of a true case by case clinical evaluation. For patients who have been stable for nearly two decades with carefully monitored medications under a knowledgeable PCP, a one size fits all policy is not individualized medicine. Individual patient histories deserve individual clinical consideration, not a sweeping institutional rule. Another concern is the requirement to establish very formal, specifically worded treatment goals at the very first session, before you and your therapist have had more than a session together. You are expected to fill in a template about your problem, the exact treatment method, and a time frame, even though you have barely begun to share your history or build rapport. That process feels driven more by paperwork than by the natural development of a therapeutic relationship, and it puts the administrative cart before the clinical horse. There are also structural rules such as strict time restrictions, even when they believe something else would serve the patient better. A therapist who believes a patient needs just a little extra time after surfacing a traumatic memory should be empowered to provide that, especially when there is no one scheduled immediately afterward, instead of being constrained by policy strictly limiting session times. In my experience, the quality of providers here can be very hit or miss. Sometimes you are matched with an excellent therapist, and sometimes you end up with someone who is not a good fit. There does not seem to be a strong process for matching clients with providers based on compatibility, so you may need to advocate for yourself and request a change until you find someone you truly connect with. When you do find the right person, as I have with Kaliesha, the care can be outstanding. The bottom line: the facility is clean, safe, and welcoming, and therapists like Kaliesha Walker-Thompson are absolutely exceptional. My experience with her today was fantastic, and I felt heard, respected, and genuinely helped. Her EMDR sessions are extremely helpful, and she is well-trained in EMDR. I am giving four stars because of organizational policies and structures, not because of any problem with my therapist or this visit. I would highly recommend Kaliesha to anyone receiving care at Compass Health Network. Photos of the facility exterior (including crisis line number and hours) are attached.
*** They delete bad reviews*** While the office staff provided excellent service, my experience with the medical professional lacked bedside manner. I felt as though I was an inconvenience and that my insights were… dismissed, despite my own background as a medical professional.
The front desk was very helpful and nice. You have to have the understanding that your first visit can take up to 2 hours. Nice people and comfortable waiting room.
Compass health isn't a very good mental health facility. I would think long and hard before using them.. if u do don't see Katie Smith or Elizabeth Richard s or Richardson these 2 ppl don't care about ur mental health… or wellbeing. They're only out for what's best for them. Compass doesnt live up to their core values , morals values or compass . Wellness is ours not the facilities. Our mental health is ours and ours to navigate through and heal how we see , know , hear and feel. Meds and advocates are guides to insure we stay on track. Not do it how u think it should be done. Compasshealth mentally and emotionally fix you and coworkers. Balance of mind and heart is in order
Front desk people are rude and have no idea what they're doing. The environment sucks and there's no confidentiality.
Not a good place.
I, also, would give a zero if I could. My son is on medication for ADHD and has been for years. We still had to go back every other month for a 5 minute appointment so they can get their insurance money. They do not… accommodate whatsoever that a parent has to work, staff is rude, they will not bridge medication if we couldn't make it to an appt, even when we've made all the other appts for years with no problems. Blame the rules on the government and do not make exceptions. The doctor was nice enough, but we were just another patient. I started going to family care doctor and it was life changing. I could not wait to be done with Compass so I could write this review after years of jumping through hoops for medication, rude overworked staff, rude nurses, all around bad experience and I will never ever return.
If I could give them a 0 I would. The doctor we had was great but everything else was a joke. After being seen here for a year they closed our account without contacting us and would not refill the prescriptions and… said we needed to restart. I wasted 3 hours in office to get reset up just for them to not do anything and I had to call back to meet with the doctor and they told me they would not be seeing my son as a patient. Clearly just wanted to waste our time and get insurance money when obviously they knew they were not going to keep us as a patient. They only work with those with behaviors and my son has improved enough to not be included in their services. Thankfully I can get into our primary doctor before my sons anti depressant is out. Would not recommend at all.
Have you ever heard of a bad place. Pathways is one of them. If you love your love ones. Do not send them to pathways. They are rude and disrespectful.
The office manager Robin is very rude and does not care about the patients at this location. She interrupts you and yells at you. Why would anybody treat mental health patients this way? They do this because they know… when your poor you have no other options but to put up with this kind of treatment in order to get medications you need to be somewhat normal. If I had other options, I'd go somewhere else!!
I'm usually just dropping off or picking up my son after his counseling session.
Hopefully someone within the Pathways/Compass health community has decided it's important to READ these reviews. This office is better than the Raymore, MO office. However, still a disturbing experience. The therapist… is ok but the front desk staff are awful! I've heard so many conversations in this waiting room that I KNOW are privacy violations of other clients/patients. I actually had a women, named Kim, at the front desk arguing with me over my request for her to fax my daughters school an excuse for her appointment today AND give me a copy of the paper for my records. Unbelievable!
My most recent experience was bad The psychologist was on his phone doing something else not related to what I was saying . Very unprofessional.
If you can get past the awful team of receptionist that make you feel unwelcome or burdensome, you will be ok. They write down your appt date and time on a card, so than when you show up, card in hand, they say that its… not right. Its very frustrating when you schedule your days off for this time and these appointments, and than this happens.
Well pathways I gave it one more shot. Failed again miserably. Went in to my sons appt they tell me that it was canceled and that I was left a message. No I wasnt left any message.
If you are not on paper they do not care about you. Reception cannot schedule appointments properly.
Fabulous so far! I have a case manager and Dr Hassen is very forward with you and she out to help and not just provide drug management. Office staff extremely friendly!
