Spent 18 days here involuntarily. This facility treated me without contacting my PCP to obtain my records or treat me with my previously diagnosed conditions, again by my pcp who I’ve seen since I was 7 years old (now… 25 y/o) which is malpractice. This facility also violates constitutional rights. I was prevented by the staff from speaking to my court appointed lawyer. This facility also did not allow me to go to court 72 hours after being admitted which is very illegal. This facility also doesn’t allow patients to use the phones or go outside without stipulation. I also heard the staff saying they were placed on the floor as a psychiatric technician without ever being trained. MALE PATIENTS HAVE ACCESS TO FEMALE PATIENTS WITH NO PHYSICAL BARRIER. I saw a male patient also attack another male patient unprovoked. There was only one tech in the room at the time and he was unable to stop the attack. I also tried to file a formal complaint and the director of nurses refused to let me. I did report this facility to the state board for health and human services. Not sure they did anything at all. Do not recommend on any level.
I am sharing my experience because I want to warn other families, especially those whose loved ones have health insurance, to carefully research this facility before choosing it. For reference my loved ones stay was… from 8.26.27-9.2.26. Our experience was extremely disappointing and, at times, heartbreaking. We felt that our loved one was repeatedly gaslighted and not listened to, and that communication from staff was inconsistent. As a family, we often received conflicting information, which made an already stressful situation even more difficult. One of the most frustrating experiences involved the therapist. On multiple occasions, when visiting hours began, the therapist would leave through a side door rather than speak with the family. This made it extremely difficult to get questions answered, understand the treatment plan, or advocate effectively for our loved one. In our experience, the lack of communication contributed to unnecessary frustration and uncertainty about the length of the stay and discharge planning. Our daughter was alert, coherent, and able to advocate for herself, yet we felt the facility did not know how to appropriately work with someone in that situation. We also felt significant pressure surrounding medications that we did not believe were necessary for her particular situation. I spoke with Brandy, who explained that many of their patients are experiencing psychosis and that the facility’s role is primarily to stabilize patients before moving them on to the next level of care. Based on our experience, I believe families should ask very specific questions about whether this facility is equipped to treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, and OCD, particularly when the patient is of sound mind and able to participate in their own treatment decisions. We chose this facility based off of their website that states that this facility offers art, music and horse therapy. We found this to be extremely lacking. Music lady retired 6 months ago and hasn’t been replaced, the horse therapy seemed like it was more for the horse than the patients and the art…well they brought paint in but weren’t allowed to bring in paint brushes. Our experience felt less like a therapeutic environment and more like being confined with very little control over what was happening. Families should not have to fight this hard to get consistent communication, understand their loved one’s treatment plan, or make sure their concerns are being heard. If your loved one is admitted here, please advocate for them. Ask questions. Document conversations. Request explanations. Stay involved. Do not assume that everything is being communicated to you or that your loved one’s concerns are being fully heard. I sincerely hope this review helps another family ask the right questions before making such an important decision.
Love the staff
I came back for a second visit. And let me tell you it was BETTER than the first. All the techs welcomed me back, and asked about how everything worked out for me.. they helped me through the hardest thing I’ve ever… been through… The treatment team helped me adjust my plan and I felt even better. The nurses were so sweet and loving. I love you MS B The therapists helped, the groups were awesome and refreshing!! All the love MAKEL, SUNSHINE, QUINN, HERB, LILLY, SAMMONE, REGGIE, BESS, BARBRA, TYRONE, MAKALA(girl on nights I hope I spelled it right ❤️) Will have your back, all of them are caring and loving and sweet, I will always choose this hospital. In the moment where I felt I lost everything I was able to come here. I was feeling so alone and knew I needed to be around people who cared for me and wouldn’t judge. This hospital will make you feel like you belong when you feel like you don’t. Feels more like home than a hospital. I love you guys. Bless all of you for everything All the love - rose/alyssa
Terrible experience. My brother voluntarily checked himself in to get help managing his medications, and our family had a horrible experience. He told us Quinn and Veronica were mean to him and that he was afraid to… talk to them because of how they treated him. They were also rude and gave my parents dirty looks. Even after we expressed concerns about his reactions to the medications, we felt like no one was really checking on him or listening to us. Instead of feeling like he was somewhere safe, we genuinely felt like he was indanger there. Our whole family was extremely anxious and worried about him. They also advertise horse therapy, but my brother hardly went outside and never saw horses. When we tried to get him discharged, we were given a hard time and had to threaten legal action to get him out. This was an awful experience. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. EDIT: I also think these 5 star review listing staff are fake and from the staff. So sketchy. My brother also told me the showers didn’t work well and they had no hot water. He lost 10 pounds in a week.
The people here are so compassionate to all the patients. Even when dealing with the unruly. I'm afraid I don't remember names of all the staff, but the techs are probably criminally underpaid. Reggie, Quinn, Herbert,… Tyrone, Ms Lily, Ken, Makel & SUNSHINE! James & Patricia do a lot without a lot, and I can see the care put into the presentation of the food. I thought this would be the worst week of my life, but it ended up being the first week of the rest of my life. I love you all! Thank you! "Should I mark that she ate?"
We had an absolutely horrible experience here and would strongly caution anyone considering this facility for a loved one. My brother voluntarily admitted himself because he was experiencing significant side effects… from medications that had previously been prescribed by a psychiatrist. He was seeking help to safely managing those medications while waiting for his upcoming psychiatry appointment. Our family was hoping he could be taken off unnecessary medications or, at the very least, have his medications carefully evaluated and adjusted. Instead, during his stay, he was placed on five additional medications, some of which were taken multiple times a day. From what our family observed during visits, he was frequently extremely drowsy, out of it, and not acting like himself. He and our family repeatedly expressed concerns about how he was reacting to the medications, but we did not feel those concerns were taken seriously or adequately addressed. Another major issue was the difficulty our family experienced trying to get him discharged. He had voluntarily admitted himself, yet our family felt like we were constantly fighting to get answers and understand why he was not being released. The nursing staff was one of the most disappointing parts of the experience, particularly a nurse named Veronica. Our interactions with her were extremely unpleasant, and we felt she was dismissive and unhelpful when concerns about my brother’s condition and medications were raised. We will be formally reporting our concerns to the appropriate parties and strongly encourage the facility’s leadership to investigate these interactions. After more than a week, my brother was finally discharged. He is now seeking medical treatment at an emergency room because of the concerning reactions and issues he experienced with his medications. We sent our loved one here voluntarily because we believed he would receive safe, compassionate help managing his medications. Instead, our family left feeling that his condition was made significantly worse. We would not recommend this facility based on our experience, and we strongly encourage anyone considering it for a loved one to thoroughly research their options and ask very detailed questions about medication management and discharge procedures.
If I could rate this facility 0 stars I really would. They only care about the money being ripped from your insurance and do not take your mental health seriously. The visiting hours are very abnormal and atrocious.… Came to visit my brother with his partner and was completely denied that right due to illegitimate “policies”. I have never seen such visiting hours ever, as they are super limited beyond any other mental health facility I’ve had to deal with. Absolutely disgusted with this place and my brother has repeatedly expressed his concerns of his stay here. They made false claims of him being suicidal and being a danger to himself and possibly others. If you are ever in need of mental health counseling, therapy, or just help in general, for the love of god to NOT come here. We requested to see the doctor and was denied even a simple phone call to simply get a better understanding of how they are going about their diagnosis for my brother. The pharmacy is also extremely concerning, as they had prescribed my brother several medications that they failed to even administer and when they didn’t have the right doses they just simply increased the dosages without proper consideration, then decided to administer the medications. And never even asked his primary psychiatrist, that my brother deals with on a daily basis, whether or not those meds were safe for him to take. They are very condescending when speaking with you and provide 0 hospitality. I have never been more concerned for my brother’s health and safety like I have when attempting to visit him here at this extract facility. If you ever feel like you are not being treated properly then I would even go as far as to seek legal help. This place is awful and I’m also going to possibly speak to my lawyer about this facility. Whatever you do DO NOT trust this place at all! Edit: We were not contacted AT ALL by the pharmacy director with regarding a very serious issue and our phone call with my brother was cut severely short within the same day. Legal matters will be done within 24 hours if my brother is not given his right to leave the facility, regarding universal policies and regulations. He is with sound mind and is not a danger to anybody or himself. He was supposed to only be there for 3 days MAXIMUM. This is a disgusting and horrible facility. DO NOT GO HERE EVER IF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS DECLINING YOU ARE ONLY A NUMBER TO THEM! Only thing to expect with this facility is to have your mental health decline. No one has contacted me AT ALL regarding ANYTHING!!! Second edit: our phone call with my brother was once again cut short when I tried to pass the phone off to his partner and he sounded like a zombie and nothing like himself. I have fully decided I’ll take legal action for keeping a good human being against their will. And drugging them to the point where the facility has full control. This is disgusting. As a human being with rights, it is more than apparent that this facility does not care about you or your loved ones at all. May this entire administration be brought to its knees and be shut down. I’m beyond angry and upset. Still waiting to hear back from ANYONE
Five stars for the techs. Hard to choose a favorite. MAKEL, KENNDY, HERB, SAMMONE, BESS, LILLY, QUINN. Made my top list but I love all the techs, MRS B was the best nurse ever! Mrs RACHEL was an amazing therapist I love… her!! Was there 15 days horses came once only on fridays. Cooks were very sweet but I lost 5lbs it was healthy but felt hungry alot between meals def need snacks Doctor made me feel alone only saw him on the laptop on my first night.. Lots of arguments on the unit some patients here need higher care Overall would choose this as an option next time! All the love - rose/alyssa
I recently stayed at Lone Star Behavioral Health Hospital, and overall I had a very positive experience. The staff was amazing and always took the time to listen whenever I needed someone to talk to or vent to. Their… compassion, patience, and support made a difficult time much easier. A special shoutout to Lilly, my favorite tech of them all! Thank you for always being there and making a difference. I’d also like to thank Reggie, Symone, Kennedy, Makel, Ms.Annette, Nurse B, Nurse Zora, Nurse D, Nurse Veronica, and Ms. Barbara for their kindness, professionalism, and dedication to helping patients. My stay was very beneficial, and I learned a lot through the group therapy sessions. The groups provided valuable tools and insights that I can continue to use moving forward. My only complaint was the food, which could definitely be improved. Other than that, everything was great. I truly appreciate everyone in this building and all the hard work they do to help people heal and grow. Thank you, Lone Star Behavioral Health Hospital, for your care and support.
I would love to mention some of the incredible staff that really did care and helped me through a very difficult time. The techs Q, Mikel, Someone, Lilly, Reggie, Kennedy, Dion, Tyrone, Miss Annette, and Quin. The… nurses Miss B and Gift and the pretty sweet blonde that I never got her name but helped me so much. ( You know who you are.) The NP Moe. The Therapists Ninette, Daj and Shaylyn. The kitchen has James. And the maintenance staff Ben and the manager or the maintenance staff whose name also escapes me. I think that basically mentions most of my team. Everyone was so caring and kind and professional. I did not go there on my own accord, however I couldn't be more grateful that I had the experience. I can't express enough the team's constant care and safety I experienced while there. Blessings from me to each and every single one of them!!!!
I was not myself when I came in, but I found myself here too..both ms. nets were exceptional in caring for me. I also liked Sabrina, who helped me through a terrible panic attack, both the Quinn’s, and both Mikela’s.… Almost all but one staff member were great. My therapist ms nette even wrote up all my aftercare instructions, making in that much easier to continue care.
This is the 2nd facility I have spent in-patient in. The lack of therapy in a *literal* mental hospital is astounding. I was held for 9 days and didn’t see my counselor until my last day, and that meeting was for my… discharge planning. Everything is so poorly managed. The patient overlook staff aren’t adequately trained to deal will the load of their work. The unit “doctor”, John Barron, does not come in and see his patients in person. Everything’s done online and this unfortunately means patients are improperly diagnosed which leads to unnecessary medical treatment. Proper coping skills aren’t properly taught and many of the states of my fellow patients showed that and we let that be known. I thank Mrs. Lilly and Mrs. B for being a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear to me at this hard time. I hope to not be admitted to a facility again, but I know for sure I pray to not be sent to this one.
only place i have experienced in patient. they were constantly telling me this was the best place for me to be. barely fed me. had other patients in my room every night scaring me for my safety on many levels. mrs.… lilly treated me like a normal person along with a couple other staff like james the chef. thank yall for that. but as far as the doctor i never saw or the drugs they threw at me nothing worked. no one on one therapy. held me for 2 weeks even though i was supposedly admitted voluntarily with no court order. toilets were constantly out of order. only got to go outside like 3 times a day for 15 minitues. was only allowed to make 1 phone call a day for like 10 mins. i was told id be there for 3 days and had to stay 14. more of the good people. mrs.B, ms. venita, mr.Ray, mr.Reggie
The receptionist refused to let me speak to a social worker about my mother after I explicitly mentioned I did not call to get information or to violate HIPPA. Refused to even say why and hung up on me.
My name is Breanna, I voluntarily accepted to come here, I went there with a broken mind, broken spirit, I felt sad. And when I left there I came out with my head held high and feeling more positive about life, if you… need HELP, seek here, respect the workers and they will respect you, mental illness is real and we all deserve to be heard , they will hear you out... I promise the walk won't be easy but I promise they will ease things that you're going through 10000 percent. They will help you get adjusted to the world you're not used to living in, Christian based and will help you achieve what you really want in life, daily groups to talk about your problems if you never have talked about it, if you truly need help seek here, THEY WILL HELP YOU ADJUST TO LIFE...!
The bad reviews HAVE TO BE FAKE. I’d be lying if I said this place was terrible. They helped me in my time of need. No judgement at all. I was congratulated by multiple staff just for taking the steps to get there on my… own. Mrs. B made sure I started every day with a smile & happy thoughts. Ms. Lily, Ms. V , Ms. Mykel, Mr. Reggie, Mr. Ray, Mr. Kaleb, I thank you all for the roles yall played in my life the short time I spent with yall. My therapist Ms. N (I don’t want to butcher the spelling of her name) made sure to keep me in the loop & im forever grateful for it. This IS the place you want to be. Hopefully not, but if the need ever arises again i wouldn’t hesitate to come back.
I spent one week here and all I can say is positive. The group meetings are very helpful and the techs are some of the nicest people you would ever meet! A big thanks to Ray, Claude, Caleb, Bes for being so informative… and kind and thank you so much to Lily,Reggie,Venita and Makel for being so compassionate and understanding. The nurses are also so helpful and open to answering any questions you may have on your medication. The techs are always there for you if you have any concerns and are were so kind to and questions i had on my stay.
PLAIN RUDE. i called to ask a question because my sister who was admitted called me asking if i could help her figure out how to get released since they are trying to keep her longer than the 9 days they told her she… would only have to stay. all i asked was if someone could check them self out, instead of answering my question the lady continued to argue with me saying it was hippa violation i never once asked if my sister was there the only time i said her name was when they asked for it. the communication at this place sucks. my sister has even called complaining to me the doctor is trying to put her on different meds that she doesn’t want or need since she has a psychiatrist she meets with on a regular basis. her meds helps her but she had stopped taking them which caused her to go in a spiral which is why she ended up in the hospital. i WILL never recommend this hospital to anyone. our family wasn’t even aware she was there by “court” or whatever it’s called that is how bad the communication is she is 18 which is an adult but she is still a kid doesn’t matter what anyone says.
I was committed here involuntarily based on a false statement my mother gave to a probate court. The first full day was the only time I spoke to my doctor, who was given the paperwork for the wrong patient. On day 6 I… finally demanded to see the warrant for why I was taken here and why no discharge plans were being made. Upon asking these questions I was released within approx 6 hours. Detaining people without telling them why, and not presenting them with a doctor to speak with (including the correct paperwork) is unacceptable conduct for a business of this nature. They pressured me several times to begin taking 6 different psychiatric drugs which did not correspond to any symptoms I was experiencing. Other patients taking these drugs appeared unable to interact with others or participate in the therapy.
I had the privilege of undergoing a week of treatment at this facility, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The entire team is not only exceptionally professional but also incredibly friendly. Their approach to… treatment is well-structured and scientifically grounded, ensuring that every aspect of the process works seamlessly together. The results have been remarkable, and I truly believe that following their treatment plan will lead to significant improvements for anyone seeking help. I must especially highlight Sydney—she is simply the best! Her empathy, skill, and dedication made a world of difference in my experience. Sydney’s ability to connect and provide support is unparalleled. Thank you to everyone at the hospital for creating such a positive and effective environment for healing.
Awful place. It’s a day care for adults and they won’t fix your loved ones problems. Avoid at all costs. Even volunteer patients are treated as criminals. They lie to family about the regulations, and every employee is… underpaid and uneducated. They will not help you.
Crystal Williams great service I highly recommend lone star behavior health
The People there were very helpful and knowledgeable. I saw good results fast. They adjusted my medications and I felt way better when I left. I was there about a week. They all were so helpful. Especially Kiana my… Therapist. She was very professional and cares about people. I’m so Thankful to everyone there.
Crystal Williams and the whole staff were super welcoming and helpful during annual OSHA compliance training! Thanks to the entire staff!
Great facility. I met a lot of the nurses. They are all kind and seem to really about the people here. Front desk staff was prompt and helpful. Even the counselors were great to talk with while I was on site!
My daughter spent time here fir about 2weeks, upon arriving home they dropped her of in the street and drove off... she had none of the clothes that were sent with her...Got her ready for a bath and her underwear were… the same ones she left home wearing...smdh..Had to be thrown away...
