About Mid Coast Hospital – Brunswick
Mid Coast Hospital operates from 123 Medical Center Drive in Brunswick. The site sits in Cumberland County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Bath, Damariscotta and Topsham. Maine draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.
Hospital inpatient care is delivered here. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves. Care offered spans more than one level, which means someone can move between them without changing provider.

Treatment Services at Mid Coast Hospital
Hospital inpatient care runs to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.
Trauma-specific services run alongside, which matters where the two are tangled together. Ask what happens at the end of the program as well as the beginning, since that is where plans usually thin out. Waiting times move with capacity, and what was true last month may not hold this week.

Mid Coast Hospital Address, Location and Contact Information
The address is 123 Medical Center Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011, in Cumberland County. The catchment reaches Bath, Damariscotta and Topsham. Confirm what a program covers before traveling in, since the level of care listed is not always the level with capacity.
Ask what a first appointment involves and how long the current wait runs before making the trip. Opening hours shift with staffing, and an evening slot one month may not exist the next. Waiting times vary with capacity, so call ahead rather than arriving unannounced.

Mid Coast Hospital Reviews and Ratings
Accreditation and licensing tell part of the story at Mid Coast Hospital. Reviews from patients and their loved ones tell another part, and the two are shown on this page so they can be read together.
My wife recently had surgery through this office, and the lack of postoperative support has been extremely frustrating. She developed significant swelling and then began having large amounts of fluid drain from her… surgical incision. We ultimately went to the ER, where imaging documented a large postoperative fluid collection measuring approximately 12.7 cm. The ER sent her home with five dressings and told us that the surgeon's office would handle her follow-up care. Instead, we have been left trying to figure out how to manage a heavily draining surgical wound ourselves. The drainage has been significant enough that ordinary dressings are quickly overwhelmed and fluid can run down her legs when she moves. My biggest issue isn't that a postoperative fluid collection occurred. Complications can happen. My issue is the lack of guidance and support afterward. We needed basic instructions about wound care, appropriate supplies, how to protect her increasingly raw skin, what amount of drainage was expected, and what the actual plan was going forward. My wife repeatedly contacted the office before the incision opened and began draining heavily because she was in pain and concerned about what was happening. Rather than feeling supported through a complication from surgery, we were left feeling as though her calls were an inconvenience and that she was being treated like a drug seeker. Patients and their families should not have to improvise wound care at home after a surgical complication. Even if the medical decision is to allow a fluid collection to drain on its own, the patient still deserves clear instructions, adequate supplies, follow-up, and someone willing to answer questions about how to safely manage it. The surgery itself is only part of surgical care. Recovery and postoperative support matter too. Our experience with that part of her care has been deeply disappointing.
Great experience today at Mid Coast Hospital. The nurses and staff were warm, personable, and avuncular. The space was calm, quiet, and the wait wasn't crazy — and it's 2 minutes from $7 ice cream sundaes!
If there was a lesser star they'd get it! Dont take anyone there if you want quality and expect healing! Actually if its not an emergency get to Boston!!! Maine health care is atrocious and lacks updated skill,… knowledge and equipment.
Trying to get a. CT scan for IBS. Michael Davis, NP THANKS, pkr
Seen very quickly. Great care from Dr. Sheldon
Visiting from Florida and broke my ankle on the second day of my vacation. It sucks but luckily the staff at this hospital were absolutely incredible. Dr. Jake was personable and kind. Kenzie, my nurse, was funny and… made me feel at ease. And Mona the radiation tech was hilarious and so quick to get my pictures taken. They set it well and referred me to their orthopedic surgeon who called the very next day to set up an appointment! We decided to wait to get the surgery back home but my family and I were absolutely amazed with the speed and level of quality care I received. Thanks everyone!
My first choice for a hospital anywhere. I was over an hour away when I was told by a doctor I needed to go to the ER. I then left and drove to Midcoast instead of going to Maine Med, which was much closer. The short… wait time alone makes it the much better choice, but the staff on top of it is phenomenal. In particular, Dr. Elias is fantastic, but the nurses, triage nurses, receptionists, security and other staff are so friendly and helpful that they are my top choice for where to go for a hospital in all of Maine.
Do not trust this place. Putting my high risk pregnancy into more high risk for doctor and facility negligence due to poor communication and awful decision making. Was told I’m better as a high risk statistic for the… hospital than having a healthy baby. My body My choice is not choice. It’s all for their show and numbers.
Went there for stomach issues, gave the attending physician (Dr. Bennett) a complete rundown, along with the fact that I don't have a gall bladder any more. So, he prescribed some gizmo from an outfit called iRHYTHM to… monitor my heart for the next ten days. This was never about my heart, and he never mentioned possible heart issues to me, at all. I told him that I didn't have heart issues. Took the stupid thing off after ten days, mailed it back to them. Got an enormous bill even after what the insurance covered, but no report. Never heard from anybody, because I'm sure it told them what I already know; my heart is just fine. I've learned my lesson: No tests until you tell me what it is for, and by God tell me what it is going to cost. Pointless test, never heard the results, a huge bill that I can't even dispute. Could be worse I guess. I think he meant well. He just doesn't see that his patients don't have infinite money. He gets two stars because he's basically a good guy, but overworked by a system that just wants to monetize patients.
My father in law was admitted for a serious infection and i was just laughed at by the receptionist for asking about his status... ten out of ten?
This facility is clean, incredibly staffed in today's healthcare and filled with kind, compassionate caregivers/professionals. My wife had a 3 day stay with sepsis after a kidney stone and I was so thankful we got… transferred here. So blessed to have been sent to Midcoast
The one star is being generous at the moment. I know it isn’t the hospitals fault that workers today are just lazy. But if the receptionist was slightly more ambitious then the nursing and other medical staff might have… more time to care for patients.
I was a passenger in a Brunswick taxi crash on 9/5/2025. Very kind and professional staff who were overwhelmed with patients in the ER. Not enough staff to look me over properly. Went home without a concussion protocol… done, and nearly lost my job two months later because I was feeling so many after effects from it. Cantu Concussion Center in Massachusetts properly diagnosed me on November 3rd. Until hospital CEO’s either remove their jobs or take a fat pay cut to hire more staff, I can’t imagine going back there anytime soon. Again, nice staff who tried their best. But it wasn’t enough to diagnose me with a concussion the day of the car wreck I was in. This healthcare system should be nationalized anyways.
I just must give a huge shoutout to Dr. Bennett who was the ONLY ER doctor for several hours at MidCoast Hospital yesterday afternoon into the late evening. Yesterday, the MidCoast waiting room looked like the MaineMed… ER on a bad day… so if you know, you know. However, this doctor made EVERY patient feel seen and know they were important and that their emergency needs would absolutely be met. I feel like this dude was kinda a superhuman doctor because he DID see and treat everyone in what I would call, “record time” with the amount of people who needed care! I know some people were frustrated about the wait, but if you have to go to the ER, chances are you might have to wait a bit to get seen. Additionally, the evening Charge nurse and the evening CNA who were so incredibly kind to me, I want to THANK YOU with my whole heart! 🥹💗 Right before I left last night, I admit I got a little scared because a few symptoms came back right before discharge and it made me hesitant about if it was truly safe to go back home or not… Ultimately, the CNA who told me, “you got this! You’re stronger than you think you are. Remember that.” And the Charge nurse who was just a few feet away keeping and eye on me to make sure I felt safe and then being my cheerleader when it came to the, “walking” test again, THANK YOU! 🙌 It was discussed that I may have to return today if my symptoms come back or worsen (I’m praying that’s not the case and I don’t think it will be) If you know me and how complicated my health is, you know I do not normally post about my “positive” experiences on here, but I think this is important. I used to feel…unsafe, dismissed, unseen and not taken seriously at this hospital in the past. However, now I can say with confidence that I DO feel safe if I ever do need to return and the level of care, compassion, empathy and the continuity of patient care has gone up exponentially. Thank you, MidCoast. The kindness and equality for myself and EVERY patient that I witnessed (in my eyes) has not gone unnoticed. ✨
Staff are incredibly rude here and it's only gotten worse over the years. I wouldn't recommend coming here even if its an emergency. My mother came here multiple occasions seeking help, they're inconsiderate and aren't… very good at their job. Environment is hostile and there seems to be poor lack of training. Short staffed or not, they have one job. That's just not an excuse.
A family member recently spent time in the behavioral health unit, and we’re very grateful for the care he received. Denver (tech), Kris (nurse), Dr. Shapiro, and Ryan (nurse) were all kind, attentive, and supportive.… The entire team went above and beyond to make a difficult time a little easier.
Had to go to Midcoast Hospital Emergency last night. Everyone was very professional, courteous and pleasant. They were busy, but got me quickly into a room. I never felt unattended to at all. After initial treatment,… labs and imaging Dr Carrellas determined I had pneumonia. He seemed to know his stuff quite well. Also thanks to Charity and Heather for the wonderful care. We were out of there in less than 3 hours which I thought was pretty good.
Excellent EENT office and Drs.
I had an ultra sound in November for some nodules on my thyroid that have been being monitored. After the Ultra sound I got a notice that due to a change in the nodule I needed a biopsy which was scheduled. I went in… and the radiologist told me he had misread the ultrasound and a biopsy was NOT needed so I confirmed with him there were no bills for that day and he said no there were not. A few weeks later a bill popped up and despite numerous calls two and a half months after I first called I am still getting billed for something I told there would be no bill for. Very sloppy billing and very sloppy customer service.
Always great 👍 service.
Very easy to navigate. Cafeteria looks very nice. Beautiful entry and open concept. Easy to get tests done. Having surgery here soon. Seems very well run and very clean.
Excellent surgery experience, the care from the doctors and nurses was wonderful and made a really stressful experience so much more positive.
I think Mid Coast Hospital is the best! They have always taken good care of me and everyone I've encountered has been courteous and helpful
My first time there was on 11/22/2025 and discharged on 12/4/2025. Nice employee's!!!
Went in for a 15 minute procedure and I’ve been getting bills for 8 months now steady. As soon as I pay one they send me another within a week. It’s like this is a sick joke at what point will they stop making up… reasons to bill me?
I've become a somewhat frequent visitor here the last year. I have only positive things to say about MMCH. Nurses are incredible and the attentiveness and care of staff is about the best i've ever encountered. If you're… in the area, you need help, hands down this is the place to go.
