About Sweetser – Brunswick
Sweetser operates from 329 Bath Road in Brunswick. The site sits in Cumberland County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Bath, Damariscotta and Topsham. The practical catchment runs wider than the city limits, taking in people who travel in rather than finding care on their doorstep.
Intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment and telehealth appointments. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Treatment Services at Sweetser
Intensive outpatient and outpatient care run to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.
Buprenorphine and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Ask what happens at the end of the program as well as the beginning, since that is where plans usually thin out. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Sweetser Reviews and Ratings
A licensing record says what Sweetser is permitted to do. Reviews from patients and their families say what treatment in Brunswick was like, and those accounts are collected in this section.
I seriously miss Massachusetts I get Maine is small and not as much help but seriously place is a joke there is no help!!!
I've had 2 providers from Sweetser for myself and 1 for my child. All three have been incredibly kind, warm, and helpful
If you are in crisis and struggling with mental health and need care that is immediate and effective do not waste your time with Sweetser. I was sent to the Brunswick crisis center while struggling with post partum… depression and psychosis. I was told they would be able to offer on sight support and get me set up with a care team: therapist outpatient and psychiatrist for med management. I stayed a week at the center and during the time met with the one social worker who was covering the person on vacation for less than 30minutes. The staff was a mix bag but seemed to have very little experience. They sat in this little office all day and dispensed meds. The facility was dirty and unkept. No one vacuumed or mop or cleaned the bathrooms. The shower had visible mold. The worst part about the experience is how zero help was Provided after discharge. I met with multiple people and waited weeeks hearing nothing of help they had found me. They kept saying it was staffing shortage. Do not waste your time you are better off calling around or using psychology.com Sweetser pretends to be non profit but the tuition at the private school They run is 90k a year. Do better.
The care and support I receive from Sweetser has been consistently excellent. I am an adult with autism and other conditions that can make it difficult to function. I have been in and out of mental health facilities… across New England and Ontario. Sweetser is by far my favourite team I've worked with. Sweetser is home to a variety of professionals of different specialties and functions. This allows a very personalized approach for each client's needs, as well as collaboration between departments on how to best support the client. At the current moment, I have four people on my team- each one plays a very important role in supporting me in reaching my personal goals. Besides that, they're all exceptionally kind and patient people who really care about helping their clients. I am very grateful to have such a fantastic team in my corner.
Dealing with Demestic abuse, having to shut off my debit card due to a frougalent charge, no phone except for texting, very little food, and it being the holidays, and no transportation, what I got was oh, I'm sorry to… hear that and this was from a Case manager. And then on top of all this, she canceled 2 times after and a no call, no show and after 2 months she shows up to tell me she's closing with me.
Very good and helpful people always willing to help and give you a lending hands.
If you need help, find another place or better, a trustworthy person who truly cares and is not after your money. Also, clinics work together with Sweetser to help them make even more money.
Sweetser is amazing!! I would highly recommend it. In the past I’ve used all that they had to offer. Now I’ve graduated to having just a case worker, Vanessa. She is so great and helps me so much. Then there’s my… wonderful Peer counselor, John. He’s just awesome. He helps in so many ways it would take me all day to tell you about it. But take my word, he’s the best. And last but definitely not least, the newest addition to my team, Cheryl. She’s my Psychiatric nurse. Her and her right hand Ashley are fantastic!! They have helped me so much. All of them have. If you’re looking for a place to help you with your mental health no matter what your circumstances are. I’m sure Sweetser can help. And if by some chance they can’t help. They will find someone for you who can. They sincerely care from what I’ve experienced. We could all use a little mental health tweeking if we’re honest and Sweetser is the place to go. Thank you so so very much to everyone at Sweetser who has helped me or touched me. September 15, 2025: I’m still with Sweetser, and their people still go above and beyond. Two people in particular: John Hirth and Vanessa, I apologize I don’t remember last names well or first names for that matter…lol I don’t know what I would do without John. I look forward to his visits all week (he sees me Friday morning). And if I’m struggling and need some emotional support or just someone to talk too. He’ll get to me as soon as he can. And Vanessa’s visit’s, I never want them to end. We have such an easy time talking together. I feel very comfortable with both Vanessa and John and they are both the most empathetic people on the planet!!! My next update will be about the wonderful duo Cheryl and Ashley ت And just a footnote; if Sweetser is smart, and I know they are. They will hold on to these 4 rare people! Because you rarely (for lack of a better term) find 1 person in one place with these amazing qualities! And Sweetser has John, Vanessa, Cheryl and Ashley! I’d say that they’re pretty blessed. But not as blessed as I am to have Sweetser and they’re team on my side☻. ~Bonnie Dennett PTL✞ Topsham, ME
Wonderful care, provider actually listens. Love love love them!
For the CSU - I’m giving this 2 stars because the staff besides the Clinician Jenna was nice but there was an incident with the clinician Jenna that was inappropriate and disturbing especially from a clinician in a CSU.… Hope the CSU gets better!
If you have no other choice, still avoid this company if you are age 18 or older. The moment you become s client, they will officially stop caring about you. They will string you along with promises and they will just… keep disappointing you and making you more and more angry. I regret ever considering this company. They can, and will make your mental health worse and then shrug their shoulders when you ask for help. Avoid at all costs. Edit 8/12/2022: It's sad that Sweetser responded to this asking for me to call them to make things right. To my complete lack of surprise, they did not answer the phone once. I have left messages leaving them my number they did not call back. They claim to care, but they don't. You are a walking bag of money to this company, nothing more. I can't wait to see this company go out of business.
Once you get past the first initial interviews, you will interact with people that can’t help you. My appointments were cancelled, I never received a call to reschedule. Both times I showed up to my appointment to be… told there was no provider to see. My first appointment was over two months ago, and I never got what I needed from Sweetser.
This place really doesn't give a s*** It's all about the money isn't it!? 🤨
I found it to be a life saver. Allison was my Dr. And listened with such compassion and understanding. She helped me learn how to move on through my difficult experiences with cancer and nightmares. Allison was my… Angel. Thank you 💖
Wonderful, caring staff. My needs were met. I felt safe enough, and didn't have any issues.
I moved to the Bath area with great need of stable mental health services and meds management. 3 of my meds doctors and two therapists quit the practice during the year that I was trying to procure treatment, before I… gave up on Sweetser completely.
Numerous mistakes on medication. Poor communication with guardians. Always making excuses for not seeing our daughter as often as they should.
While everyone at the facility was nice and friendly, they are completely unqualified to be working in mental health services. I was referred to Sweetser simply for a more up-to-date evaluation of my ADHD. They did not… follow the proper procedures for the testing and as a result the findings did not match any of my previous diagnosis over the past few decades. Once you got past the spelling errors and grammatical mistakes, you are left with a report that not only tries to explain away the symptoms of ADHD, but also attacked my character. I was evaluated by another clinical psychologist both before and after Sweetser - both found that I have ADHD - Inattentive type. Not sure what is the point of saying you don't have a condition you have. Idiots. I cannot speak to their other services but in terms of evaluating Attention Deficit Disorder, I would not recommend them.
