My son escaped twice from RTC. He had 3 different individual therapists during his RTC stay. They moved him from one house to another, claiming that the floors needed repair, but I'm pretty sure they are fixing up the… properties to sell for profit and are moving out of CA, at least for residential care, because CA is too expensive. This is an unfortunate result of profit motive. I would not send a teen to Newport. My son is still struggling, and I'm looking for a better facility. This is not an emotional release to slam Newport, I truly believe they are moving out of CA, and want to warn others. There was high staff turnover - more than just the therapist. I also think the "family therapy" was highly directive, which did not work for my son, but is also a result of them forcing family therapy to move along due to time pressure (which is $$ pressure).
i dont know if this will be seen by anyone working there (hopefully osiris is). my names evan fredette and i went to the newport academy Pleasanton location 4+ years back and had my contact info changed. im just posting… this so hopefully whoever runs this can forward this to osiris or whoever is running the house now, because i would love to come see the house an everyone again :) very positive experience, very good energy and very good people.
I came hear a few years ago and I owe a personal apology to the staff and manager here. I forgot his name now but I hope he still works here. I was very confused and angry when I got there. I felt like I was being… punished, for not doing enough to stay safe, for not being able to handle my shame and trauma, for telling the truth to my therapist and for her making me go to a residentiali. The first place because of that. I felt like all my privileges were being taken away, unfairly. I convinced my mom to take me out of there, but the truth is, I really did need the help there. I went to more residentials after that and I noticed that this one had the best resources for me. I lost the opportunity to get better once I left. The staff were wonderful and understanding even when I was being, in my own words, honestly annoying. I hope they remember me, I hope they see this and know that they're doing amazing work, I hope you know I'm sorry. I am a lot better now, after 2 years of going in and out of therapy, in patient and out, and life or death situations. Things could've been different if I stayed. Still im grateful for coming here in the first place. Thank you.
My daughter was transferred here from Sac location Emily is not a good communicator she made my daughter feel unwelcome and problematic (yes they are kids that need help). They are understaffed and inconsiderate of… families impacted by their children needing help. Emily called 8 different times ‘’making sure I would pick up my child’ (those words she used) mind you we live in the Bay Area where traffic is unpredictable she was insinuating we would abandon our child and she ‘had to make sure she was getting picked up’. Emily her tone and demeanor is not fit for a facility aiding family and children. They also had a therapist who wasn’t even at the site and with a heavy accent I could barely comprehend what she was saying over the phone who would she help aid healing. They knew they were gonna discharge my child but they waited to get fully paid by the insurance company. Whoever is in charge of these places including Muir Woods really need to spend money on staffing these facilities right. You guys are suppose to help with healing not cause more distraction because you’re understaffed smh
This was a horrible experience for my daughter. My husband and I had her discharged after only being there for a week. She did not get the help or support that she needed. She was bullied by other residents in the house… and not much was done about it. During her stay her suicidal thoughts, depression and anxiety increased. The communication is really bad also. My husband and I were not notified of things that we should have been. If your daughter is seeking residential treatment, do not send her here. This a horrible place and needs to be shut down.
Outstanding staff and program!
CBT group was playing the Nintendo switch, the family therapist stopped working there, alumni group didn’t exist, the counselor was strict (and unlicensed), equine therapy is just for marketing, sessions were more like… once a week rather than twice, we often missed groups, and one of the weeks I was there we only did about 20% of the therapy we had scheduled.
We were stuck in a house often just sitting around doing nothing, there was nothing you could do about cruel staff, the food was suboptimal and outside food was not allowed, only 10 minute phone calls twice a day the,… the water was corrosive, and I did not get better
most horrible experience of my life , no help at all it genuinely made my life worse, there were flies and bugs in our food, most staff were abuse, and problems among peers were not taken care of, i had almost died… twice to other peers and nothing was resolved, most emotionally restricting place you could go.
ts awful did not help with my depression or anxiety at all never go here this place needs to sink to the deepest pits of despair and needs to be destroyed and torn down
Wonderful place. Staff who cares.
I am so pleased with the strong emphasis on family therapy and the truly extraordinary clinical team each patient gets. With that and the truly healing vibe of the facility, I am very impressed
Newport academy saved my daughter’s life. She was lucky enough to get in Dec 2020. We jumped many family’s in line because she agreed to be admitted the week before Christmas. The stay was difficult, missing Christmas… was really tough on her. She ended up staying about 10 weeks. She was treated well, and received the help she needed. She learned how to implement self-care techniques, she learned a lot about distress tolerance, and she learned how to do-exist with others that are going through tough times. My daughter is about to move away to college and she is much better prepared for that because of Newport.
Nothing for depression or anxiety it was no help
These people had me involuntarily committed when I tried to sign myself out. None of the therapy or groups were geared for the basics of depression or anxiety. If I could warn any parents or kids researching this to… stay far far away, I would
