Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) in California

Partial hospitalization programs in California offer structured day treatment for substance use. People attend most of the day and sleep at home or in a sober living residence. Many hospital psychiatric day programs show up in the same search results, but substance use PHP is a separate level of care with its own placement rules and coverage questions.

RehabSeekers.com builds its listings from government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details that providers send us. California PHP listings cluster around Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. Many list co-occurring mental health care, accepted insurers and languages spoken.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions about PHP

Answered from what is listed here.

Which California cities have PHP programs?

Partial hospitalization listings in California cluster in San Diego, University Research Park, Woodland Hills, Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley. Programs in those places run structured treatment for much of the day, with people returning home each evening.

Families near Anaheim, Los Angeles or Santa Clarita can weigh daily travel time, since partial hospitalization usually means a commute on each treatment day, and ask about parking or rides.

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) in San Diegohttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/california/southern-california/san-diego/php-san-diego/
Do PHP programs in California take Medi-Cal?

Some of the partial hospitalization programs in California record accepting Medi-Cal, so asking intake staff directly matters. Medi-Cal addiction care runs through county-contracted Drug Medi-Cal providers and the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System in opt-in counties, not one list of plans, so county alcohol and other drug programs can explain the route.

What is a partial hospitalization program for substance use in California?

A partial hospitalization program for substance use disorder in California is day treatment, usually 20 or more hours of clinical care a week, with nights spent at home or in sober living. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) places it at level 2.5 in The ASAM Criteria, its placement framework.

California also uses ASAM designations in its licensing rules for residential care. Clinicians place someone at this level when daily structure is needed but round-the-clock care is not, and people often step down to intensive outpatient care or back up to residential treatment as needs change.

Many California hospitals run psychiatric partial hospitalization for depression, psychosis or eating disorders. Those programs set their own daily hours and lengths, so their schedules do not carry over to addiction care. A provider that offers both tracks should be able to tell you which one a listing describes.
