About SARP Substance Abuse – Groton

SARP Substance Abuse is located at 1 Wahoo Drive in Groton, within 1.6 miles of Conning Towers-Nautilus Park and Gales Ferry. The practical catchment runs to roughly 5 miles, covering Oxoboxo River, Long Hill, Waterford and New London. Groton sits in Southeastern CT County, and the county’s own provision is limited enough that this site draws from a wide area.

SARP Substance Abuse offers intensive outpatient and outpatient care. Licensing sits with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, alongside federal SAMHSA registration. Medication-assisted treatment is part of the offer, the approach with the strongest evidence for opioid dependence. Substance use and mental health are treated together rather than in sequence. Telehealth appointments are available, which matters where the drive is long. Veterans and serving personnel are among the groups served.

SARP Substance Abuse – Groton Detox and Rehab Services

SARP Substance Abuse – Groton delivers intensive outpatient and outpatient care. The structured element runs during the day and people go home afterwards. What suits one person will not suit another, so ask directly. It is reasonable to ask how progress is reviewed and by whom.

The record shows integrated treatment rather than one problem then the other. Approved medication is paired with counseling and regular review. Cost, travel and waiting time are all worth weighing together. Ask whether family can be involved and at what stage.

I've always had a positive experience at the Naval Branch Health Clinic Groton. The staff, from the front desk personnel to the medical providers, are consistently professional, friendly, and genuinely attentive to my… health concerns.

I arrived on time for my and my son’s appointment and checked in at the first table with D., who then directed me to another table. Unfortunately, the older lady there, K.R., was very rude and dismissive. She gave me a… paper without explaining if it was for me or my son, and since she also took my ID, I assumed I should fill it out with my information — which is why she kept my ID. When I asked for clarification, she told me it was for my son and had me cross out my name and write his instead. She then said I was late and that they might not see me, even though my appointment was at 8:50 and I had arrived on time. The first-table lady, D., confirmed that and tried to help. After waiting for 30 minutes, I found out K.R. had never checked me in. Thankfully, D. helped me get seen, and the rest of the staff apologized — except for K.R.. I had waited a month for this appointment and ended up being late for work because of the confusion. I felt disrespected and unwelcome, and it seemed my treatment may have been influenced by the fact that I’m a foreigner. Patients deserve clear communication and courtesy, especially on base where professionalism should be the standard.

The home port front desk is terrible to deal with.

This review is 100% towards the homeport front desk. Telling us can get forms done in 1 day and actually getting it done then soon as we leave saying it’s going to take 10 days to get a simple form done which is keeping… my wife from work, keeping my child from school. This is rediculous . Dependent side of medical absolutely sucks.

This review is 100% for optometry. Every other department is just fine. Optometry was a pain to deal with. I was told in the summer they aren't doing eye exams or renewing glasses anymore. I then go out in town to get… these done (as instructed by the front desk and paid for out of pocket). Now, 6 months later, when checking out they need an up to date prescription. I made 7 trips to optometry before getting my sheet signed, received extremely rude and sassy attitude from some front desk HM, and was told to make an appointment (a month out) to get my checkout sheet signed. Unbelievably trashy, nightmarish, and non-existant service. The HMs here are more worried about uniform instructions and their own convenience than providing any real service to personnel who double the hours they do. I hope someone important will read this and correct the arrogant, indifferent, and sassy attitude at the front desk of optometry. What are the taxpayers buying here? For service members to get no service and have their time wasted?

When I was on shore duty, I was having pains in my wrists and saw PA Mark Clarke. He told me that I wasn't exercising enough and put me on naproxen. A month later, it hurt just to get out of bed so I went back and saw a… doctor who had blood work done which revealed that I had Lyme disease.

A wonderful benefit for retired military.

Absolutely ridiculous. Turned away with attitude for not being in uniform, inquired where I could file a complaint, and they instead called the desk I was turned away from. Was then told to just go buy medicine from the… NEX.

Had an appointment here at 1300 so I arrived at 1235. Waited until 1450 and all the HMC did was sign my paper.

Doctor appointments are usually within 10-15 minutes of schedule. Pharmacy waits can be long (if not just refills), but they DO have to ensure everything is correct and documented. I'm told Wednesday is "training day",… so try other days for pharmacy.

I don't enjoy going to doctors appointments (who does?), but when I go here, the care is great and the staff is friendly! I see Dr. Woods, he's a wonderful doctor. He's always kind, professional, and truly shows that he… cares about his patients.
