Rehabs That Take Health Colorado

Health Colorado is an organization serving members of Health First Colorado, the state’s Medicaid program, in southern Colorado. It has worked as a regional organization coordinating physical and behavioral health services for Medicaid members. Coverage through Health First Colorado can include drug and alcohol treatment, with benefits depending on the provider network and level of care.

Colorado centers name Health Colorado on their websites. Medicaid members in the region can ask a facility whether it is in Health Colorado’s network, then contact the organization about any authorization requirements. Asking both before admission helps clarify coverage for services such as withdrawal management, residential care or outpatient counseling.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What is Health Colorado?

Health Colorado, Inc. was the Regional Accountable Entity for Region 4 of Colorado's Accountable Care Collaborative, joining physical and behavioral health benefits for Health First Colorado (Medicaid) members across 19 southern and southeastern counties. Headquartered in Pueblo, it operated from July 1, 2018 until June 30, 2025.

It held the capitated behavioral health benefit, covering mental health and substance use treatment, and delegated network and quality management to Beacon Health Options.

Medicaid Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/
Does Health Colorado still exist?

No, not as a Medicaid regional organization. Accountable Care Collaborative Phase II ended on June 30, 2025, and Health Colorado was not one of the four regional entities named for Phase III, which began July 1, 2025. Its counties moved to other regional organizations.

Members did not need to act at the transition; you can keep your primary care provider and check your current regional organization in PEAK or the Health First Colorado app.

Medicaid Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/
Who replaced Health Colorado?

Rocky Mountain Health Plans became the regional organization on July 1, 2025 for Alamosa, Chaffee, Conejos, Costilla, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, Lake, Las Animas, Mineral, Pueblo, Rio Grande and Saguache counties. Northeast Health Partners took Baca, Bent, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero and Prowers.

Rocky Mountain Health Plans, a UnitedHealthcare company, handles behavioral health and substance use utilization management and prior authorization for both of those regions.

Health Colorado, Inc. was not an insurance company. It was the Regional Accountable Entity for Region 4 of Colorado’s Accountable Care Collaborative, the Pueblo-based organization that joined physical and behavioral health benefits into one plan for Medicaid members in 19 southern and southeastern counties. The coverage behind an addiction treatment admission belonged to Health First Colorado; Health Colorado held the capitated behavioral health benefit, contracted the providers and authorized the care.

That arrangement ended on June 30, 2025. Phase II of the Accountable Care Collaborative closed after seven years, Phase III opened the next day with four regional organizations instead of seven, and Health Colorado was not among them. Thirteen of its counties moved to Rocky Mountain Health Plans in Region 1: Alamosa, Chaffee, Conejos, Costilla, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, Lake, Las Animas, Mineral, Pueblo, Rio Grande and Saguache. Baca, Bent, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero and Prowers moved to Northeast Health Partners in Region 2.

A treatment program that still advertises “Health Colorado accepted” is describing the old regional contract rather than a current one. This guide covers what the Medicaid substance use benefit paid for under Health Colorado and still pays for today, where prior authorization applies, what a stay costs a Health First Colorado member, how medication is handled, and how to work out which regional organization now sits behind a Colorado admission.
