ILWU-PMA Benefit Plans

Rehabs That Take ILWU-PMA Benefit Plans

ILWU-PMA Benefit Plans provide health benefits for West Coast longshore workers covered by agreements between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association. Coverage can include drug and alcohol treatment, with benefits that vary by plan and level of care. Dependents of covered workers can also be eligible.

Treatment centers in Utah and Washington list ILWU-PMA on their own websites. Members should contact the facility and the benefit plan office before admission to ask about network status, prior authorization, referral steps and what they may pay themselves. Keep your member details close at hand for these calls.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What is ILWU-PMA Benefit Plans?

ILWU-PMA Benefit Plans is the jointly trusteed benefits office for West Coast longshore workers, run by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association. It administers the ILWU-PMA Welfare Plan for health benefits, plus the ILWU-PMA Pension Plan and the Watchmen Pension Plan. It is a union-employer fund, not a commercial insurer.

The main office in San Francisco takes member calls at (415) 673-8500 or (888) 372-4598, Monday to Friday.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does ILWU-PMA cover rehab?

Yes. The ILWU-PMA Welfare Plan runs its own Alcoholism/Drug Recovery Program, which provides inpatient and outpatient care and therapy, with detoxification when necessary. ADRP benefits apply whether the member is enrolled in the Kaiser HMO or the Coastwise Indemnity Plan, and treatment is fitted to the individual.

Care is arranged at facilities the program designates, through the area representative, and the program description states no day limits or member cost sharing.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does ILWU-PMA cover detox?

Yes. Detoxification is provided through the Alcoholism/Drug Recovery Program whenever it is medically necessary, as part of inpatient or outpatient care. Members in the Kaiser Southern California HMO also had inpatient detoxification at no charge under the 2024-2025 group 101035 summary, and Kaiser Washington covers it in full.

Under the Coastwise Indemnity Plan, inpatient substance use care falls under Basic/Major Medical, with no charge at PPO hospitals.

ILWU-PMA Benefit Plans is the jointly trusteed union-employer benefits office that runs health coverage for West Coast longshore workers, and it is not a commercial insurance company. For anyone registered under an agreement between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association, treatment for alcohol and drug use is a benefit of the ILWU-PMA Welfare Plan rather than something bought from a carrier.

There are two doors into care, and knowing which one applies decides almost everything that follows. The medical side is either the Coastwise Indemnity Plan, a self-funded program that uses PPO networks, or a Kaiser HMO in ports where one is offered. Running alongside both is the Alcoholism/Drug Recovery Program, the Welfare Plan’s own substance use program, staffed by four area representatives and available whichever medical plan the participant holds.

This guide covers what the ADRP and the medical plans pay for, where authorization and coordination apply, what a stay costs under the Coastwise Indemnity Plan and the Kaiser options, how medication is handled through OptumRx, and how to find a program that the plan will pay.
