Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does Sutter Health cover rehab?

Yes. Sutter Health Plan, the nonprofit HMO owned by Sutter Health, covers mental health and substance use treatment, administered by Carelon Behavioral Health of California. The evidence of coverage names inpatient admissions, residential treatment center care, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient day treatment, all subject to prior authorization and in-network rules.

Because this is an HMO, care outside the network is generally not covered, except for emergencies, behavioral health crisis services, or where no in-network provider is available.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does Sutter Health Plan cover inpatient or residential drug rehab?

Yes, residential treatment center care and inpatient mental health or substance use admissions are covered benefits, but each needs prior authorization from Carelon Behavioral Health of California. Reviews set the number of days covered; in one state regulator file, a seven-day residential request was authorized for six days.

Psychiatric emergencies are the exception, since an emergency admission does not need authorization in advance, although post-stabilization care still does. The behavioral health line is 844-398-0314.

Residential Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/programs/residential/
Does Sutter Health Plan cover IOP or PHP?

Yes, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization day treatment are covered as nonroutine outpatient services, and both require prior authorization through Carelon. Cost sharing depends on the plan: large employer HMOs such as the County of Sacramento $15 HMO show no charge for other outpatient mental health and substance use services.

On high-deductible plans such as the SD23 Bronze HDHP HMO, those services are no charge only after the $7,200 individual deductible is met.

Sutter Health is a not-for-profit health system based in Sacramento, and its insurance arm is Sutter Health Plan, a nonprofit HMO sold to employers, individuals and families across Northern California. If the card in your wallet says Sutter, addiction treatment is a covered benefit, and the company that actually authorizes it is Carelon Behavioral Health of California.

That split matters at the admissions desk. Sutter Health the system runs hospitals, medical groups and its own psychiatric and day treatment programs, and it takes coverage from many carriers. Sutter Health Plan the HMO is the payer, and its mental health and substance use benefit is carved out to a behavioral health vendor with its own network, its own directory and its own authorization line. Asking “do you take Sutter?” can mean two different things depending on which side of the organization you are talking to.

The plan was called Sutter Health Plus until January 1, 2025, so older documents and cards carry the previous name. This guide covers which levels of care the plan pays for, where prior authorization applies, what a stay costs under the 2026 plan designs, how medication for opioid and alcohol use is handled on the formulary, and how to find a program in the network.
