DUI and DWI Programs in Illinois

Illinois handles a DUI conviction in a set order. State law requires a professional alcohol and drug evaluation after a finding of guilt and before sentencing, and the evaluation must come from a program licensed by the Illinois Department of Human Services. The result points to what comes next: a risk education course, substance use treatment, or both.

Providers in these listings report DUI and DWI services in the Chicago Loop, Aurora, Elgin, Oak Park, Arlington Heights, Peoria and beyond. Most sit within 25 miles of a river, most often the South Branch Chicago River. Chicago Midway is the nearest major airport most often, with the closest airport a median of 11.1 miles away.

Common questions about DUI and DWI Programs

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Illinois cities have DUI programs?

DUI and DWI programs across Illinois are listed most heavily in the Chicago Loop, with Aurora and Elgin next in line, followed by Oak Park and then Arlington Heights.

Chicago, Aurora and Elgin are the larger cities near these clusters, so people living around them can often compare more than one program within a reasonable drive. Checking that a program meets the requirements set for a particular case is a sensible first call.

Rehab Centers in Aurorahttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/illinois/aurora-il/
Do DUI programs in Illinois take Illinois Medicaid?

Illinois Medicaid is accepted by about half of the DUI and DWI programs in Illinois, so ask a program whether it takes your plan before enrolling. Coverage can vary by service type.

Members are enrolled in Illinois Medicaid through plans such as Molina Healthcare, Aetna Better Health of Illinois or Blue Cross Community Health Plan, with CountyCare Health Plan available in Cook County only.

Rehab Centers in Illinois That Accept Illinois Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/illinois/illinois-medicaid/
Are there DUI programs near a river in Illinois?

Within 25 miles of nearly all of the DUI and DWI programs in Illinois there is a river, and the nearest sits a median of about 9.4 miles from each listed facility. The most-named rivers are the South Branch Chicago River, the Grand Calumet River and the Chicago River.

Rehab Centers Near Rivershttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/rivers/

What DUI program does Illinois require, and who licenses it?

Illinois requires a professional alcohol and drug evaluation before sentencing for a DUI, under chapter 625, act 5, section 11-501.01 of the Illinois Compiled Statutes. The Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery within the Illinois Department of Human Services licenses the treatment and intervention organizations that carry out these evaluations.

Licenses for these providers are issued under Part 2060 of Title 77 of the Illinois Administrative Code. Under the DUI statute, any education or treatment the evaluation calls for cannot be the only part of the sentence, and the court monitors whether the person completes it.

The evaluation sets the level of care, which can run from education alone to ongoing treatment. An evaluator reviews past offenses, the arrest, any earlier treatment and the person’s alcohol and drug use, and first offenses, repeat offenses and drivers under 21 may land on different tracks. Ask for the result, required hours and deadline in writing.
