Best Hospital ever
if there was a 0 option, i would pick 0. horrible experience. completely traumatized from everything that occurred there. under staffed, kept yelling and making fun of the kids and their problems, and always complaining… how it’s illegal that one person had to take care of 20 kids. disgusting food. i lost 4-5 pounds in less than 24 hours there. horrible treatment. constantly laughed at for crying. completely vague with comments, and when i signed my paperwork they rushed me to sign while i was trying to read what i was signing.although i was only there for less than 2 days, i will NEVER forget this experience.
when i was younger and i got sent here, i waited three days in the lobby to just find a room to stay in. oh and also the kids there are insane and no self control. like literally. i had a girl spit on my face an dthrow… water at me when i fell asleep. she was my roomate.
If I could give ZERO STARS I would My child was there from 08/22/26 to 08/28/26 and the children’s side is nothing but a DAYCARE. There is no classes no nothing. Just so much downtime. He was able to call me all day and… when I asked what he was doing all day he would tell me he was watching YouTube, or they went outside to the playground, or went to the inside gym. I asked him if what any classes he would say nope we watch tv and play. Dr Preevena was his psychiatrist when he was there and she’s a joke. Sent us home with no aftercare. No PHP no therapy just a follow up appointment with his outpatient psychiatrist. This place is a joke. Avoid at all costs.
From a Grateful Mom We arrived at Rutgers UBHC from the ER in crisis because they had the first available bed. I am so thankful they were the ones who could take us. They saved my teenage daughter’s life, and I will… forever be grateful. The team’s impact was immediate and lasting. They made her feel safe, deeply cared for, and truly understood, while guiding us through a clear plan for moving forward. Their professionalism, compassion, and genuine support made all the difference. She even told me she missed UBHC when she came home. As a parent facing this for the first time, I read the reviews while she was there and felt genuine concern. I felt compelled to share our experience because parents should not be discouraged by these negative reviews. In a world where mental health care can feel overwhelming, UBHC is a place I will always remember with deep gratitude. Thank you so much.
Honestly so terrible they will tell you what ever they want to get you in they told me they take emergency Medicare now they are not and I got a bill for a psych eval that I didn’t get any other services for because no… one could tell me anything till after the psych eval that it wasn’t taking the merges Medicare. The psych in the appointment knew I was given the wrong information, but hey now I get a wonderful 489 dollar bill for a psych eval that I wouldn’t of gone through if I was given proper information before hand. But hey why worry about that when you’re going through a mental health crisis right? Now I get to go through another mental health crisis because this bill is more than I made all summer because I got disabled.
I got family member in here and from staff to doctors this place is unbelievable, unprofessional and staring mean. Most people here are transferred from hospitals and you can see all they want to cash in on people who… are struggling in their life. most people are in and out and this place creates revolving doors for people who are in need and this place dont help at all. People answering the phones will just tell you to hold and hang up the phone for a simple question like what are visitor hours and not even give you an answer. All of you should be ashamed of your self. Seen people medication increased with no communication or letting anyone know because they feel the power to do so. Staff and doctors are mean to patients for no reason. I will definitely be calling few people in NJDOH, DHS and National Accreditation.... This place needs to be investigated.

First of all "behavioral" staff (this includes… the teachers) aren't "supportive" or "helpful" at all. They sometimes scream at the students, make fun of the children or make exaggerated comments about the students; The school is very low quality in terms of satisfactory the gym is very cheap along with the sensory room that makes the school almost look like a daycare for behavioral and psychiatric needs. The food was also horrible and very cheap by taste and looking at it I once threw up tasting the food. The only dependable thing about this school is the clinician you get, mine was surprisingly nice (and helpful) but I'm not going to count a 2 star. I hope this school gets actually helpful resources for students, staff and clinicians instead of focusing on unnecessary stuff
SUGGESTION TO PARENTS- READ BOOK PSYCHIATRIC SLAVERY BY THOMAS SZASZ ALSO RESEARCH DR.ABRAM HOFFER! REVIEW BELOW UPDATE: my son was released Tuesday Nov 7th. PARENTS BE AWARE THAT THE KIDS INSIDE HAVE COURT ON FRIDAYS.… I was NOT made aware of this. If I would’ve known I would’ve been there and he would have had appropriate counsel. They provided him with a public defender but he has a law guardian who knows him well and would’ve represented him better. It felt like it was kept from us on purpose. Also, my son informed us that he was pretty upset when he found out he had to stay for an additional two weeks. He was restrained and medicated. WE WERE NEVER INFORMED ABOUT THIS. When his dad asked the nurse about it in front of my son she said “well you were behaving bad.” It’s almost like you are not allowed to have feelings there. He just learned he had to stay .. did they expect him to be happy about it? I’m not sure what type of training the nurses receive that qualifies them to work with these kids. However, Dr.Randolph is a great doctor and very patient. But the staff working under him is another story. Nardika is awesome as well. My son is currently a patient here so this rating is TEMPORARY. I will update with a very detailed rating once he is RELEASED as I have been keeping a journal. He is currently being treated by Dr.Randolph who has been very helpful. I do value and appreciate his help thus far. Nurses Kim and Ronny have been very thorough with communication which I really appreciate. There’s another nurse but I didn’t get her name who has been helpful as well. *Some* (only 2) of the nurses have shown empathy and compassion. His one-on-ones have been really nice guys and I wish I could thank them in person. Hopefully one day I’ll get the chance. Clinician Nardika has been great and she mentioned that my teen son isn’t a bad kid just having a tough time with depression. I love that she acknowledged that because it lets me know that she is paying attention to him and really getting to know the REAL him. One thing I will say is that my son has been there for over two weeks now without access to fresh air or sunlight. Basic life necessities and just plain HUMAN RIGHT. That could drive even the healthiest person crazy often causing more harm than good out of desperation. Edit- just spoke to Clinician Nardika who told me that my son is under RUNAWAY RISK which is why he hasn’t been allowed out which I completely understand. They are working diligently to give him the help he needs to deal with his emotions. Doctor and clinician are working on a discharge plan and says he will be released early next week. I really really appreciate the support they are providing him and our family during this process.
Genuinely worst experience ever with mental health help. The main psychiatrist is just trying to get you admitted in order to make money off of you. Terrible system terrible place. You won’t get better. They will make… you worse to keep you in there unless you threaten them with legal action. My child is now dealing bad memories from this place, this place needs to be locked down and checked. The doctors are horrible, the nurses barely know what they’re doing. Do not come here, anywhere else is better.
Too much Adiban inpatient, they administer it as needed. Makes it impossible to habituate to anxiety. Psychiatrist switched me from medication that was successful in the past which ultimately worsened my symptoms.
There is this one weekend staff I forgot her name it was like Christine or something, she has blonde hair and blue eyes and she literally acted like a karen. My friend has a mental breakdown and this staff member was… just berating her. When she worked on the weekends she would just talk shit about patients and she always overrode upper-staff orders. She is not helpful at all, please do something about this.
terrible terrible & terrible, didn’t have enough beds, very unprofessional. should atleast have backup beds but i guess not. Also, treating normal people like their insane, i find that extremely weird
This place is garbage. They put me on the Suboxone shot and then when I show up to get my shot on a Friday, they had left five hours early for the day Without me knowing and I drove two hours to get a shot that I was… never even going to get! Meanwhile, I had to wait for the following Friday Because that’s the only time I can takeoff of work without being fired and the doctor wouldn’t send me a bridge script of Suboxone or something because I am very ill, at this point. This is an awful place. Don’t ever go here. nearly led me to relapse, today. Awful, awful, awful.
My experience here was so terrible that I couldn't even go into Piscataway without getting scared. When I was admitted, a "clinician" saw me, and when I discussed my issues, he yelled at me saying that "I will never be… on your side!" And I get called spoiled for no reason. When I was in the actual inpatient program, my doctor was so angry at all the clients that he would yell at them over not going his way. I overheard a girl getting yelled at by MY doctor for not wanting to go to residential. Mind you, it is YOUR choice, not theirs. I was even told that. They even give you too much medication like it's no tomorrow. They once updosed my medication for no reason. When I left, I told my parents to never send me back to this horrible establishment again. Truly terrible, and most staff treated me like garbage. Note to parents, don't send your kids here. It'll only make things worse, the admission times are so long, and they will yell at you for no reason at all. Please parents, just send your kids elsewhere.
They wanted to send my daughter here but after reading the reviews I don't feel comfortable. When I told the lady at Clara Mass hospital in a ledge that I was yelling at her which I was not I just admitted that she… should not overpower me in conversation... The lady at the hospital then didn't have the social skills to communicate. Very uncomfortable feeling.. if the lady of Clara Mass is anything representing this place then it's definitely a pass.
shout out to Mr Aaron my favorite staff
I went to rutgers day school, they restrain the kids here no matter the age. they scream out in agony but even then they still keep at it.. “school work” for the teens here is just 2nd grade level work, not actually… learning anything. fights always break out, people always at each others throats, kids run out of the school. staff talks badly about the ppl who go here. breaking hipaa all the time. teens bring drgs in and what not and pass it out to other teens like easter candy. I got treated differently because I have selective mutism so they left me out of almost everything not including me in team, community, etc... I just sat there alone half of the time not doing anything.
This cannot be considered a mental health facility… it felt like a prison… we came to find help only to find ourselves in the waiting room for over 12 hours. No information and no help in sight. We kept getting the same… response that they were waiting for a doctor and that doctor never showed up. Patients come here and are forgotten.
My fiancé had an intake appointment today in order to enroll In a virtual iop. Had a work related accecident and was diagnosed with ptsd in a psychiatric triage after 8.5 hours in the hospital (rwj New Brunswick). Based… on severity, sometimes time duration of the disorder isn’t as important, such as this case. She began the call asking if I could be on call with her, as I’ve quite literally been with 24/7 since the event (minus 8.5 hours of psych triage), and I keep good track of her symptoms, and provide comfort and support to her. For reference, I’ve also been present for every intake she’s had which is about 4 now. I’ve been told I was extremely helpful with clearing up or providing info on her symptoms. Immediately she was told I couldn’t be there and that “you may say things that you may not want the other person in the room to know”. Immediately we both gave each other a look of suspicion as that’s highly unusual, so I stayed at the edge of the bed. From there he proceeded to do the following: 1. Claim she didn’t have ptsd as the criteria states a year or longer (have the DSM5 in front of me, says 1 month, it’s been over two weeks so far). 2. Claimed she was having panic attacks daily (she’s not, it’s very clear) and didn’t even ask for symptoms of the first panic attack to verify it was a panic attack. 3. Told her she’s never tried to kill herself and that her suicide attempts weren’t actually attempts simply because they were ended ubrupty for one reason or another and she didn’t complete them and survive (every psych and therapist had disagreed thus far). 4. Tried to claim her symptoms were due to an adjustment disorder which she absolutely does not meet the criteria for. Please avoid at all costs, I’ve heard terrible things about them before from other people, and the less people hurt the better. P.s. yes, my fiancé has seen the review and approved of it’s posting. Be safe guys
I never write reviews but honestly, this place definitely needs to be talked about. This health care unit honestly should be considered the laughing stock compared to other places. The staff is completely dismissive and… disrespectful, and they don’t care about the patients family’s or feelings. I must’ve called the facility around 8 times and nobody answered, which leaves me worried and confused about my family member. Additionally, the clinicians that are in charge of patients also never answer their phone calls, meaning I have no idea what’s happening with my family member. All I know is that he’s admitted, I do not know the plan of care that is anticipated, I do not know the type of medications the clinician is supplying, and I have no idea of when is a possible discharge date. This place insufficiently operates and honestly should close until reevaluated by actual professionals within this field. Honestly, if you are looking for proper help, try your very best to refrain from this establishment
Only B wing had groups left me to color and watch tv for a week so thuarputic
They’re are some very mean people there meaning the staff and patients when I was there. They told me that they isolated a girl for 2 weeks because she was pretending to take her medication then spitting it out… afterwards. Before I went to be around the other patients they told me you have the right to deny medication. They also do not know how to deal with situations when patients go hay wire. I felt safe here, but it wasn’t a fun and enjoyable experience. I can’t wait until I become a lawyer to sue this place with all needs to shut this place down. I don’t mean this to be rude, but a lot of the staff aren’t fit to work here. I now have trama from this place and I blame it on all of the staff.
Extremely Disappointing Experience – A Warning to Others I regret to say that my experience at this facility was nothing short of alarming. The safety and well being of patients seem to be secondary to other concerns… here. I strongly advise against bringing children or vulnerable individuals to this location. There are high risk patients who appear to be left unsupervised, and disturbingly, individuals who have been wrongfully admitted are placed in the same environment as these high risk patients. The staff’s professionalism and competency also need serious reevaluation. Many of them seem to be either undertrained or overwhelmed, which leads to a lack of care and oversight. I foresee a number of lawsuits arising from the treatment or lack thereof that patients are enduring in this facility. Rutgers should be ashamed of the way this place is being run, and immediate reforms are necessary to prevent further harm. My experience has left me deeply concerned about the safety of others who may be placed here in the future.
we love you double a battery ❤️ #a-aron
They need to be informed with correct information. They don't know what insurance covers assistance. I called and got tossed around. I'm trying to get information and this is how they treat people that need HELP. THEY… need to hire people who have the correct information about what insurance is affiliated with there programs.
My adult son experienced a mental health crisis, at which time he was admitted through the Emergency Department of a local hospital to the in patient services at UBHC. As a seasoned healthcare professional, I am always… quick to check reviews of any office/facility which provides care to myself and my family. I was more than a bit disturbed when I saw the many negative reviews about UBHC. Since we had no choice in the matter, I decided to come to my own conclusions about this facility and not allow the experience of others to negatively influence my opinion. I am delighted to report that my son, my husband and I had an absolutely exceptional experience at UBHC from the moment he arrived on their ward. Every single employee treated my son with compassion, caring and respect. Our interaction with his physician (Dr. Ashraf) and two social workers (Charles and Kristen) was stellar. The communication was excellent (fast to respond and thorough in answering all questions and concerns) and their demeanor was always kind and caring. Sadly, we have had experiences at multiple other behavioral health facilities; some were good, others not so much. I can say with 100% certainty that UBHC was the BEST facility we've ever encountered. The caring staff is their primary attribute, but other measures (including cleanliness and security of the facility, quality of the meals, availability of parking for visitors, etc.) all contribute to my five star rating of this facility. While I hope we'll never need their services again, it eases my mind to know UBHC remains ready to address the needs and concerns of a very special patient population with the dignity and respect they deserve.
