Southern Sky Recovery – Bluffton

Southern Sky has some of the best counselors I have ever come across. If you have the standard/ typical needs of someone in recovery and you are in the lowcountry I would recommend this program every single time. The… staff are compassionate, caring and solution oriented. I regret not taking the help when it was offered to me last year. The only caveat to this review is that if you are someone who has severe mental illness challenges and diagnoses then this is not the place for you and I don’t have any recommendations because I am still out here searching for the appropriate care and resources.

I have heard wonderful things about this place. As a family member of someone receiving help here, I see how engaged staff is truly wanting to help patients. From what I have heard and encountered, patients receive very… meaningful care here. This area really needed a great resource like this.

When I walked through the doors of Southern Sky, I was completely starting my life over. I had just gotten out of a two-month rehab and was trying to figure out what life looked like without drugs and alcohol. I was… scared and overwhelmed but from day one, the team at Southern Sky took me under their wing. They didn't just provide therapy, they gave me support, encouragement, accountability, and hope. They helped me build a strong foundation for recovery and reminded me that I didn't have to do it alone. I can honestly say Southern Sky helped save my life and is one of the main reasons I’m still sober today. I'll always be grateful for the care and compassion I received. If you're looking for a program with people who genuinely care, I can't recommend Southern Sky enough.

Southern Sky was a wonderful place for transitioning into recovery. Their programming is excellent and very science based and interesting. They take a very holistic approach to recovery, incorporating yoga and… meditation as well as science based addiction education. I felt very safe there, learned a ton about myself and addiction, and made some great friends whom I stay in contact with today.

Southern Skies Recovery has been life-changing for me. The program provides valuable sober living skills that are truly conducive to long-term recovery. The staff is incredibly caring, supportive, and genuinely invested… in each person's success. I gained practical tools, structure, and confidence that continue to help me maintain my sobriety. This place is amazing.. the staff is awesome. They come from a place of understanding.. Treatment doesn't have to be all negative and boring and with the staff under the leadership of Nathan they keep it real and are… very encouraging.

I am a practicing clinical psychologist who would confidently refer my own family members to Southern Sky for treatment. Professionally, I have seen patients who rave about the positive results they received at Southern… Sky. Said simply, they provide outstanding professional and personal treatment for both alcohol and substance abuse patients. Their staff is composed of competent professionals who are compassionate, caring, and experienced toward providing excellent detox services critical to successful recovering. Both inpatient and outpatient programs are thoughtfully designed to meet individual patient needs leading to meaningful, hopeful, and lasting recovery outcomes.

SSR is top notch …the staff is professional and caring, empathetic and engaged in the important work they do. Let support clients where they are .Every client is an individual and has their own journey!

Overall I was pleased with my experience, but there where some issues I saw. The house manager was not fully invested into what was being offered. It was obvious he was not working a program of recovery himself and at… time seemed like he was there just for a paycheck and room and board. The cou selors and staff at SSR where phenomenal. They where very engaging with me and seemed to genuinely care for the patient and there success. The Marshes was a great environment that fostered community and growth. Housing was beyond adequate. Accommodations where made, when necessary, to facilitate individual client needs and religious preferences.

I only give a 2 and not less, because the potential of this place is there, but allowing toxicity to literally control and monopolize been set back as many weeks as I spent in this joke "therapy" group and it is beyond… repulsive. I received a threat of violience and returned it with reciprocal when I agreed to step outside with someone who is far beyond a distraction to the well-being and healing of the group. He then attempted to intimidate me with a "death stare" and I reacted with a threat of my own. For that, I am the one who was discharged. I KNOW I was speaking on behalf of the entire group, who have been voicing their own concerns about the toxicity in the group from one person. My experience here has been an absolute joke and I have had others to compare to. I took my therapy and recovery VERY seriously. I started my journey in residential for 8 weeks in Florida, then PHP in Florida, then IOP in two different locations in Florida, before I was asked to return to Bluffton to complete my IOP by my lawyer and DSS. Not once in my life have I written a poor review, but this is beyond unacceptable. If you think it is okay for one individual to run group therapy and literally set the room back weeks in their recovery, then this is the place for you. For a month, I didn't walk out after 3hrs of therapy (3 days a week) thinking I was getting better. I walked out KNOWING I was wasting my time. I am not and never have been a violent person. The inability to lead, control and abate completely pointless, inappropriate and unhelpful topics like football drafts, as well as keep contained the monopolization of individuals causing this sort of thing and toxicity and bullying of other group members is positively repulsive. Zero stars would be given if it were not for the potential this place could be, given the proper leadership.
