The detox unit went above and beyond to stabilize and care for me. Thank you Angel in admissions you have no idea how many hours I spent calling facilities and getting turned away bc of my funky insurance. Angel went… out of his way to make sure I was authorized. Thank you to the nurses, doctor and wonderful CNA staff. Yes this place is basically the psych ward but they have the ability to handle a severe case like mine. I got to come home to my family a better person.
You sleep. You eat, food is great. They have Kosher and Halal. You can pray, they bring you a Bible. Nurses are great. Doctor’s are really good. You can ask for emotional support. They make you exercise. The county and… people who support mental illness are in good hands. Best in town.
Saved my life
I loved it here the staff was very attentive and helped me with my alcohol withdrawals I actually enjoyed the meals you get breakfast lunch and dinner and I was very comfortable only downside was the snacks in the… refrigerator suck. but besides that awesome facility I definitely recommend if you need to detox in a friendly environment and lots of phones available to use and they provide the basic things like toothpaste toothbrush deodorant and body wash in the shower already installed. Don't worry about bringing clothes because they give you their own clothes and clean clothes/towels as the days pass by.
Not sure why there’s so many negative reviews. While no one enjoys going to a psychiatric hospital, my experience here was the best experience I’ve had at one so far. The staff are so kind and caring that you can feel… their empathy. While my anxiety on a scale on a 1 to 10 was a 10 when I first entered the hospital, Jessica and Brianna quickly brought it down to a 1.5. They were extremely considerate of my unique needs and so kind and caring as were the other staff. They made me feel safe and valued as a human being. All of the staff were kind and caring especially Brianna, Jessica and Ping. Hopefully I never need to stay at a psychiatric facility again but if it ever does become necessary again I hope to be sent here in the event it is necessary. Oh and the food was delicious and healthy. Their group activities are also very helpful. The facility was clean and the nurses were always attentive to my needs. It honestly felt like VIP treatment
Saved my life. I just got out Friday after 20 days. Thank you College Hospital. I would've taken my life without you.
I’ve been here multiple times 13-20 and honestly it’s not that bad. It’s obviously not a place you willingly want to go but it’s a place to clear your mind and work on gathering yourself after certain situations. The… staff do their jobs and the food is alright (just ask for salt and pepper haha) depending on who’s your doctor during your stay remember to advocate for yourself and stay positive, recovery is possible
If you get assigned Dr. Akhtar instead of Dr. Huang you might as well run for the hills. The former will just blow you off, completely ignore MAT protocols, and leave you to suffer during your stay. The latter has an… excellent working knowledge of the environment he works in, is compassionate with an friendly bedside manner, and seems to truly care. College Hospital is just a roll of the dice.
stayed here for 3 days worst experience nurses at my station were incompetent snd allowed other patients to do whatever they wanted even if it meant putting others in danger and psychiatrist just threw meds at people… with little to no actual screening, he prescribed me SSRIs after having one brief 2 minute talk with me and the food was awful all throughout
This place is not at all like what they are showing this place took me in, would not let me know were I was or why I was being searched from the inside out. No food or water for 2 days would not talk to me....... Thank… God for medical sending someone to do a check in. I think I was being body broked. She saved my life
I got asked to rat out my drug dealer here. I don't do drugs. I told them that and I got scolded for being "dishonest". They asked everyone to rat out their dealer. The treatment was mediocre. Pills and some modified… school program for improving self asteem. They had one shower per four patients which was adequate for a shower every other day. The food was school cafeteria food. They do accept donations of paperback books, but not hardcovers. The staff was frank with the patients. No malice, but blunt honesty. This place didn't make my situation worse or better. The staff do their jobs.
Caring, compassionate, and professional medical personnel.
Disgusting place.
This people are the best
I got the help I need and was clear mind and drug free . When my detox program was up. Thank you for your help and understanding.
I was in this hospital over 4 months ago. The nurses were very funny and they were nice as well. The food was decent not the best and not too bad. It was very boring there but school there was fun. The patients were… calm and chill. EDIT: I went back to this hospital and the staff were still super nice and supporting them, the doctors were awesome, and so we're the patients. The food was nasty sometimes though same review of 4/5
If you are in need of a serious opiate detox I would definitely go to the College hospital in Long Beach CA. In Costa Mesa my Doctor was Dr. Ahktar, I do not know why he works in a detox facility, he had no compassion… for the work he is doing. He seemed bothered and burnt out. When you enter a facility like that it takes incredible courage and honesty. My honesty left him with him questioning if I sold the medications I got from my addiction specialist and psychiatrist! He seemed he wanted to argue with me rather than help me; I was completely thrown off and made to feel shame I wasn’t in complete withdrawal. Any Doctor who has any knowledge of the horrible withdrawals of fentanyl knows that it gets in your fats cells and can take days for you to go into full withdrawals. I pleaded with him to take me seriously and I would be going into withdrawal day 3 or 4 and to please let me have my bed for 7 days so I could start on the treatment medication suboxone and carry into a treatment center. Along with Beth the social worker who was on call unfortunately while I was there was just as unhelpful and told me that she didn’t think I wanted to get better because “ your in bed most of the time I’ve seen you here…” Other than a tiny game room, which has hours, your room in your bed is where they expect you to be. I was floored when she said that. She had expected me to be in the game room all day making calls seeing if there are beds open in local treatment centers. One, part of that was her job to make at least one call, but she just gave me a piece of paper that she circled three centers one that didn’t even take medical, the program she works for! Sorry but she was useless. The normal social worker that works there is named Hilda and she knows what she is doing and is passionate about the work she does and if she sees you really want to get sober she will do all in her power to get you as many days in detox and help you find treatment after. So after day 3 I did not see Dr. Ahktar again. I pleaded with Beth the charge nurses’ that I needed to see him I was about to go into full withdrawal and I was scheduled to be released day 5 and I would probably use getting released in full withdrawal on a Friday and I didn’t want to use. Dr. Ahktar discharged me Friday morning in full withdrawal and Beth said here’s a bus 🚌 pass bye. Not wanting to use or let these people drag me down I called the A.R.T. hotline and explained my situation. A caring professional was taken back by my story and said she would do everything to get me real help. Believe her name was Gouda, she made a couple of quick calls and said she was going to get me into College hospital 🏥 in Long Beach City where I would get the help I needed. She stayed on the line and made sure I was given a bed and even called me the next day to see if I was safe and okay. Fortunately my mom was able to pick me up and take me to Long Beach since the bud pass they gave me was only good for Oranges County, so I went to LBC College Hospital 🏥 where I was met by a sweet smart nurse Natasha who got me back into a room within 30 minutes of arrival, where at Costa Mesa I waited almost 3 hours until I got to a bed. The next day I started vomiting profusely, this went on for about two days with cramping, cold sweats, anxiety etc. My detox doctor was Dr. Tolwin who if I did not see in person I FaceTimed him he wanted to know how I was doing and what he could possibly do to help with my withdrawals. He was the complete opposite of Dr. Ahktar, he was compassionate and empathetic. They got the vomiting to stop within 2 days so Monday Tuesday early morning they took my blood almost every day to see what was going on, the got a IV going into me to get fluids to me cause I had not eaten or drank anything since Saturday. Usually medical will cover up to 7 days if needed but like to have you put on 5. Since I had used 5 days at Costa M & now 5 days at LBC I was still very sick and in withdrawals so instead of discharging me they transferred me as “medical.” God Bless college 🏥 LBC.
The security guard got mad because I took a picture from the sidewalk. He called 911 on me for exercising my 1st Amendment rights. Based on his accent, he may not be from America and probably doesn't know our laws.… Don't they have to take tests to know our laws? Sad times we live in.
DO NOT GO HERE if you have any choice. They WILL NOT give you any non-psychiatric meds you need, and they don't actually help you with your mental illness. It is a terrible environment for people suffering from mental… health and addiction issues. I had so many bad experiences during my 3-day stay here. It's drab, dirty, and falling apart at the seams. My worst experience there was that, because they wouldn't give me my mirtazapine I need to help my stomach paralysis, I was vomiting a lot. I ended up aspirating vomit into my lungs, and it was quite painful. I asked for help, and the nurses just said "Sorry, can't help, we're changing shifts!" then I watched them stand there doing nothing for AN HOUR. All this place does is separate you from the outside world and put you in an environment where you can't hurt yourself. Don't expect anything better than that. They've really gotta stop sending people here from the ER.
The staff was very caring. Thank You for your help
Be careful, they violate HIPPA! I called to inquire about a patient and gave me the full name of a different patient within the first sentence of speaking to the front desk! Conversation went something like this: “Hi… I’m calling to set up visitation hours.” “Is this for …(redacted)?” “No.” Be careful!
Took me coming here two times to get it right. By the second stay, I decided I wasn’t strong enough after detox to keep up my sobriety so I got in contact with the ART team and they referred me to a rehab. The staff at… college hospital are kind and understanding. They are professional and definitely deserve better reviews. It works if you want the help! The tools are there but they aren’t going to build your house for you. They start by giving you a sturdy foundation. Thank you for saving my life college hospital! 2 months and going strong.
Worse hospital ever! My husband went here for help and they forced him to take medicine he didn’t need and every time I asked when I can come get him they kept telling they didn’t know. My husband then told me how the… staff wouldn’t feed an elderly lady there properly and wouldn’t help her walk to her room or give her a blanket because she was cold. He ended up helping her and when he asked the nurse to actually help they ignored him. This hospital is a disaster! They do not care for patients. They did not listen to anything I had to say. Do not bring your loved ones here
This place is not gonna get to the root causes of your issue. There job is to bill patients make money off of you and ship you out. I was there for 4 days didn’t see one therapist there not obligated to help you recover… there obligated to make sure you don’t kill your self. Horrible place to be in not stable at all. And then they ask how your feeling if you say you feel sad or depressed they place your hold longer because your not showing signs of improvement. No shit I’m not improving you guys just drug me all day and that’s it
Came here in 2021 and they lost my blood sample how the heck you do that? When i asked for melatonin to sleep they said i didnt need that and gave me more anxiety meds instead
i was here for a week and it felt like an eternity. i NEVER saw myself as someone who would ever go to a psych hospital, but it can happen to anyone. this place will MAKE YOU FEEL WORSE. this place is straight out of… the 90s, dark, decaying, and creepy. it is so poorly kept and old, like exactly what you’d picture a psych hospital to look like in a movie. the food is disgusting. like 10x worse than cafeteria food. i didn’t know what powdered eggs were until this place. i ate bread for a week. your rooms are dark with boarded windows, with a slit of light, and you sleep in a room with 2 random people. i’m grateful i was sane here because otherwise i would’ve lost my mind. DO NOT GO HERE. do not get 5150’d bc you could be sent here. DO NOT TRUST YOUR LOVED ONES WITH THIS AWFUL PLACE. i was woken in the middle of the night for blood draws taken without my permission and not told why or told what medication i was taking. tons of people screaming and no nurses skilled enough to handle the mental health crises happening. just medicating and isolating people discarded from society.. that’s all this place did. they don’t treat you like a person. any person is one step away from a mental health crisis. they treat you awfully and you express how upset you feel, and they use anything as an excuse to lock you in here longer. it’s so easy to see how the healthcare system manipulates reality and makes people seem “crazy” to keep them in places like this longer. it’s truly awful.
This place is what is wrong with the la and Orange County mental health system. People need help . The people working here are just working a job. They have no passion for it at all. I cried needing help it too me 4… months to cal there crisis stabilization unit:when I talked to the woman that answered she told me there was criteria even though they were 24 hours with a monotones voice . We need people who are passionate about mental heath and this is why people kill people and mill themselves. Don’t call this place at your most vulnerable time
