Center for Discovery – Maitland Reviews and Ratings
Whether you are here to read reviews of Center for Discovery or to write one, this section is the place. Patients, family members and professionals who know the Maitland program are welcome to contribute.
This place is an absolute joke, the staff are verbally abusive and the therapists violate HIPPA constantly. They are unaccommodating to people with disabilities and the LGBT community. I do not know a single person who… has had a good experience with this facility.
I cannot express enough gratitude for the care and compassion shown by the staff at the Center for Discovery in Maitland, Florida. From the very beginning, they treated my daughter as if she were their own, walking… alongside her through every stage of her recovery journey. Tristin and Kathleen, in particular, went above and beyond, providing not just expert care but genuine empathy, making my daughter feel understood and supported in every step. The admissions department also deserves special recognition for their dedication in ensuring my daughter received the help she desperately needed. Their commitment didn’t stop at intake—they continue to check on her progress, even after treatment, showing that their care extends far beyond the walls of the facility. As an overly involved parent, I needed constant communication, and the team was always on top of it. Whether it was updates, reassurance, or addressing concerns, I always felt informed and involved in my daughter's recovery. Like any treatment facility, they aren’t perfect, but the heart and commitment they have toward their clients and their families is unmatched. I knew then—and I still know now—that my daughter was, and is, in the hands of truly amazing individuals. If she ever needs help again, I have full confidence that she’ll receive the same exceptional level of care. Thank you, Center for Discovery, for going above and beyond for my daughter and for our family.
I've been at Center for Discovery in Maitland since I left residential at Monteverde and it has been a wonderful experience overall. I've received so much support from all of the therapists, dietitians, diet techs, etc.… They take time out of their day to talk to you if you're struggling and the care is really personalized, they take a lot of time getting to know you even if you aren't their primary client. The staff has gone above and beyond to give me and my peers so much support.
Center for Discovery PHP in Maitland, FL medically neglected me and traumatized me. I came to CFD after stepping down from residential at Alsana which I was clearly not ready to step down from. When I got to PHP I was… barley eating and they didn’t really know what to do with me. After my first week my therapist, Brittany said I had to get a tube or be discharged. I asked her how long I would need the tube for and she said “forever if you need it” A few weeks later I was sent in an Uber by myself 2 hours away to the emergency room at Tampa general hospital for tube insertion and medical stabilization. My therapist said that an NG tube was fine so they went ahead and put it in. After about a week in the hospital, my therapist Brittany convinced them to discharge me and told them that they would be monitoring my vitals. Against what the doctors wanted, they believed my therapist and discharged me. Only a few hours before discharge, my therapist called me and said that they can no longer take me with an NG tube and that I would need to get surgery to get a G tube in my stomach. She then offered me the option to go back to Res instead. Wanting to go home and think this over, I discharged. The next day we called Alsana to see if they could take me back and when they said no, I decided to go back in an Uber to the hospital in Tampa to get the G tube insertion surgery. This was my choice, however, they made it very clear that they wanted me to choose the G-tube and thought it was best for me. Nobody taught me how to care for the tube or how to use it, I had to learn on my own. When I got back to CFD they just had me go alone in an office to do my feedings and keep it a secret. My heart rate and weight continued to drop to the point that my heart rate was consistently in the low 40’s for almost 6 months and I was severely underweight which is dangerous. They only sent me to the hospital when it got to the 30’s. Once it was in the 30’s I went back to the hospital and then to res where the staff was astonished that my PHP had put a g tube in me and let my HR be in the 40s for so long. Both my therapist and dietician had both told me that when I come back to PHP I have to have the tube so I thought I needed it. When my res talked to my PHP they gaslit me and said that they never said that and I could come back to PHP without a tube. In res, my tube got infected and I had to get it removed. We spent all of res unlearning that I would need a tube forever and that I can’t recover without one. I’m still working on unlearning that to this day because they had convinced me I needed it and can’t ever fully recover.
As a private practice therapy in the area, I can rest assured that referring clients to CFD Maitland, that they will be taken care of. CFD Maitland’s team is very efficient as far as cultural competency, ethics, and… clinical interventions and skills used.
As a private practice therapist in the area, CFD is an absolute pleasure to refer to when my clients need extra help. It is alway such seamless collaboration and caring approach with their clients. CFD’s expertise,… compassion, and commitment to clients make them an outstanding program. Highly recommend for ED care.
I cannot recommend CFD Maitland enough. If I could leave a hundred five star reviews I would. The setting is comfortable, clean, and therapeutic. But the best part is the staff. I have never received more quality,… empathetic, genuine, and kind care than at CFD maitland. The staff truly cares about every individual and the therapeutic tools I have built while at CFD are invaluable. Tristin, the Program Director, did an incredible job at initiating a therapeutic connection and ensuring I felt safe and comfortable in my treatment experience at CFD. I recommend CFD Maitland to anyone who is struggling.
The team at CFD Maitland is extremely compassionate and well educated on the complexities of eating disorders. I refer clients to this facility often and have received great feedback from clients and their loved ones.… Every clinician I have spoken with communicates promptly and it is very evident how much they care about every person that walks through their doors!
Took my anorexic daughter to CFD as it was touted to me as one of the best eating disorders centers in Florida. My daughter was not given any type of treatment for the 2 weeks she was there. She was only given a plate… of food and watched. When she did not eat the food, they brought her an Ensure type of drink, and when she did not drink it, they did absolutely nothing else. I expected a lot more from this facility. My daughter continued to lose weight and her mental condition deteriorated even more. They then suggested we should upgrade her to their residential program, which we did. Once we got to the program they kept her for only 3 hours and sent her with all her belongings to the emergency room. At the hospital, doctors there told us our daughter was not the first patient that CFD took, that they should not have. We ended up paying the totality of our deductible and they charged the insurance company so far $23,270 for doing absolutely nothing!! My daughter's physical and mental condition got progressively worse at the Center for Discovery PHP program and later at their residential program. We regret having taken our daughter there, and absolutely do not recommend it.
Y'all should check your height measurement. I was measured being 6'2 1/2 but I'm actually 6'4". I brought up the possibility of the height ruler being placed on the wall incorrectly and y'all completely brushed me off.… It's incorrect as hell and I'd bet my life on it. Please have somebody actually double check the height ruler on y'all's wall because it genuinely is incorrect. I felt like y'all were lying to me and I wouldn't want anybody else to feel that way. Thanks for helping me not starve myself anymore though.
Center For Discovery in Maitland is a skilled group of clinicians passionate about each individual that comes there for eating disorder help. I refer to them often and would highly recommend them!
As a referring professional, I have only great experiences in working with their staff.
Zero ability to help real trauma or cptsd patients. Therapists were of no help and staff not trained and had no experience . They also paired minors with adults in trauma group. Left thankfully and feel they should not… have a mental health program. I cannot speak of their disordered eating program.
Was there a few years ago bad experience kicked out during the pandemic never helped finding a therapist. Don't go there you will regret it.
Miquia is quite literally the worst therapist I’ve ever worked with. She’s the reason I left the program early. She has a nasty attitude all the time and speaks to the patients like they’re prisoners sometimes. Save… your money and go elsewhere. Also for reference she used to work with inmates and it’s clear she sees us the same way :-)
