Disclaimer that the 2-start rating is of the institution, not my providers. I received services through SCCCMH for over a year. In that time I had two therapists and one psychiatrist who were all great. The way my… services ended, however, left a very bad taste in my mouth. I was attending regular therapy sessions, but my therapist had to take a medical leave of absence. I was told that I would likely hear from my therapists supervisor during that time to make sure I was doing okay, which did not happen. This wasn’t a huge deal to me, but still a little odd. The leave ended up lasting much longer than anticipated and it kept getting extended, so I was without services for a few months before the supervisor did a periodic review with me. At some point I received a phone call from my therapist, which I missed but then returned with no answer the next day. I heard nothing for another month and then the same thing happened (missed call, returned the next day with no answer). I assume this was to schedule an appointment upon the therapists return, but I am not sure. Regardless, I received letters in the mail following this that stated that my services would be terminated if I didn’t make and keep a therapy appointment by a certain date (though again, I had not been able to reach my therapist and didn’t even know they were back). Additionally, I had a standing appointment with my psychiatrist coming up, but those were less frequent so of course I hadn’t had an appointment in awhile other than the periodic review with the supervisor. Somewhere along the line, they cancelled my psych appointment and discharged me due to my “lack of participation.” This was extremely frustrating. I was essentially blamed for not participating in my care when I had no care to even participate in because I was waiting for my therapists return (none of this is the therapists fault, they were gone). I will take accountability in the fact that I had received letters in the mail that I had not opened or responded to. However, as a mental health institution, it feels ironic to not be able to understand why a person struggling with mental health would fall behind in retrieving and reading physical mail in a world of technology. I only received 2 phone calls, both of which I returned but then heard nothing. I never received any calls from the administrative team regarding their concerns about my “lack of participation.” In my discharge papers, the reason for discharge is listed as “dropped out of treatment” and the goals status is marked as “no progress.” This makes me look like I wasn’t invested in my care, when really it’s quite the opposite. I don’t leave reviews for anything, but after some reflection time I felt my experience should be shared. The communication regarding my care while my therapist was gone and after they returned was very poor, and the way the discharge was handled was even worse. Please do better!
Bad
Called when I was in crisis and they told me I needed a doctors referral, how absolutely ridiculous and sad😡😡
some staff are okay but the problem is at least for me they won't prescribe medication that work after my insurance changed I had ti come here and they changed all my meds that were working btw and tried giving me… alternative that gave me side effects and didn't work and increases suicidal thoughts and depression if the person has medical history since a child with records of medication used and they work why would you not offer those? I have severe ADHD bipolar depression and PTSD none of the medication they tried giving me worked it's really sad I have to resort to a phone application with an A.I doctor to the medication I need and that doesn't include therapy thank God for Hims without that application I'd be out of luck in this area
I tried to leave a voicemail yesterday & just received a call back at 9:45am today.. The woman didn't even bother to listen to my voicemail. She just assumed she couldn't help me or my son. Causing you a loss of revenue… & 2 potential clients. Maybe if you had desk attendants that care to do their job you wouldn't have so many 1 star reviews & lose new/old clients left & right.
Our family has had some good experiences here years ago, but this last time was horrible. I tried to get services for my child and was interrogated like I was a criminal, scared me so much that my child never got the… help they needed, and there is no other place to go. I would suggest going out of town for any type of services whether it's for mental health or testing for a child, stay away!
You billed me a couple of times when my insurance ran out. No help getting new insurance, once I did you bill me $3700+? You should've billed me correctly and because of this my savings have a big chunk taken out. I'm… canceling all my services with here and the place you sent me. Cherry on top? Your garbage website won't let me pay the bill
Staff is very kind, getting an appointment is easy. The problem is keeping said appointment. After my first one, I was scheduled with a therapist. They called and canceled one of my appointments the day of. I only got… to see the person twice before I was called and told this one can't see me because I have Medicare, and scheduled me with another therapist there instead. Today was my first appointment with this new therapist, and yet again I got a call with a same-day cancelation. It is making me want to give up on trying to get help.
There are undoubtably negative reviews, but I have encountered nothing but people willing to help while there. It is very safe, warm, and friendly. The caseworkers can help immensely with trying to get you stable, both… mentally and physically. They have employment services to help get a person working. Counseling, prescribing, a lab for any required bloodwork, and I know they have more.
Spent over 1 year at Marine City office recieved great service they forced me to the port huron office and have been denied the services I have been receiving and refuse to send me back to Marine City to restore my… services
Never can help you on the weekends for medication so i wouldn't recommend getting help here.
They are a mess
This place and Sean Forbes saved my life.
To be honest I’m not sure why everyone hates this place, usually when you’re going to a place like this, medication and therapy will be in the question, so will other forms of help, you’re here to get mentally well, at… least that’s what I came here for, I’ve been with CMH since I was 9 years old. Now 20! They have lots to offer in all honesty, I’ve been diagnosed with Consistent Depression, PTSD, ED, social anxiety, Bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder, and it’s definitely not easy to live with, some people struggle with finding the right medication for them, and that’s been me since I was 9 years old. I’ve been on multiple medications and to no prevail unfortunately, but that isn’t the prescribers fault, some medication just generally doesn’t work for others like they do for some, we’re all different and I’m still on that journey with finding what works best with my new prescriber here, she mentioned to me that they can do blood tests here to find out what medication is compatible with YOU, And what side effects are more likely to occur, which I’ll be taking! So I definitely recommend you to do that if you’re serious about your needs. I’m currently on 3 medications for my mental health and will be receiving a 4th, and I sure hope it helps! I’m ready to be free of dealing with my mental battles. If you’re worried about being on too many meds and think “4” is too much, don’t hesitate to let them know that and they’ll most likely find other medications that battle multiple things at once, rather than having to take much more than you’d want. But there definitely isn’t a cure all pill XD If your psychiatrist or prescriber isn’t listening to your needs or what you’d like to be on, there is other ones within the same building, either virtually or in person. Just go and do that before quitting entirely with this mental health service dealing with medication, same goes with therapy, find other therapists before you go transferring. I know mental health is hard and is a struggle, trust me. I’ve lived that route my entire life, but just try your best to not give up.. and try to put faith and hope into your treatments and who you’re working with to battle with that you go through. I know not everyone’s experience will be the same as mine, but I’ve had some prescribers and therapists I absolutely hated from here, and that’s why I switched to different ones within the same building and finally found ones who I feel listen to me. I’d rate this place 5 stars for never giving up on me, and accepting me back when I gave up on them, they’ll try their best to listen to you, and will do what they can to help you, giving you resources and recommendations, etc So hopefully your experience here won’t be too bad. And if you feel they’re putting you on too much medication, or are doing something you don’t quite feel comfortable with, just let them know that, and if you’re a minor explain that to your parent or guardian! So that you can both discuss that to the person you’re seeing. And hopefully all goes well. And like I said this is just my experience and I cannot speak on the behalf of others, but I do have faith that you’ll get the treatment you need, just don’t forget to tell them how you’re truly feeling. Ps, Best of wishes to current you and future you! You’re here for a reason, don’t waste that💕
