Tomah VAMC – Tomah Detox and Rehab Services
What Tomah VAMC – Tomah offers is detox, residential treatment and intensive outpatient. Withdrawal is managed under clinical observation before other treatment begins, which matters most in the first seventy-two hours for alcohol and benzodiazepines. Day programming is scheduled, with evenings spent at home.
Co-occurring mental health conditions are addressed alongside substance use, which is the approach the evidence supports. Medication-assisted treatment combines approved medication with counseling and clinical review. Confirm what a program covers before committing to it. Visit to help fellow veteran and was impressed with care. Spent with the worst injured at many facilities over the last 50 years. Hard to think of a better hospital for the worst of my fellow veterans
You know it’s getting bad when the call advocacy center won’t even call you back anymore. The further they get away from a war, the worse the care gets.
I have been to the residential treatment program in Tomah three to four times. I had to return because I have PTSD, substance abuse, anxiety, depression and also physical ailments. When I went to Tomah I had a… discussion initially with my case manager and I told her that she had to be hard on me and keep it real. Get on my cage when needed and everything. During my treatment I got upset because she was keeping it real getting on my case. When I looked at her she wasn't smiling and hard-faced and everything. I reported it to the supervisor and asked her to to change my case managers. Of course you did. I. I blamed myself for what happened to me in the military and caused my PTSD. The second time I returned I worked hard with her and everything still skeptical about the way she felt about me. On the last meeting we had, we battled we argued but at the end of that meeting I did not blame myself anymore. I thanked her and gave her a hug and then she smiled tomah and their residential treatment program is the best I have ever had. Their groups are great. They're not large groups. They make sure you understand the topic. All the case. Managers and facilitators are great. I would recommend that program to any of my fellow veterans. Thank you rttp for everything you have given me and still can give me if need be. They also woke up the inner me and I started being creative again with a lot of parts of my life. My thinking improved. My art skills improved and I learned a lot while I was there. And they're fried Chicken in their cafeteria at lunch time is the best. Thank you!
Caring professional staff.
I hate to say this, but my experience with this facility, the care and overall experience unfortunately reflect broader patterns of government healthcare that I have encountered over the years at several different… facilities. In particular, there are consistently long phone hold times, customer service interactions that can feel unwelcoming or indifferent (over the phone) and an overall environment that often appears slow and lacking urgency. It is concerning as well because, from my view, this location is usually very empty. Although, in-person interactions are different. After my most recent phone call — during which I was on hold for nearly an hour — I was disappointed that Jamaica from scheduling was extremly unhelpful, rather than focus on resolving the issue professionally. I have also attempted to contact the patient advocate regarding these concerns but, to date, have received no response.
The only place I really trust with my healthcare.
Quick in and out
The Tomah VA Medical Center is hands down the best VA hospital. The staff are friendly, compassionate, and truly care about veterans. I especially appreciate the holistic and whole-health options they offer — it shows a… genuine commitment to overall well-being. I’m very thankful for the care here.
Staff was incredible.
Ron Kovic would be appalled...
Never had a bad experience
VA has been good for me. My MD'S very good and treat me with respect.
Staff sucks and it needs to be shut down
All the staff that I have dealt with have been very helpful, knowledgeable, and respectful. It is a clean facility and far better care than Hines clinic in Illinois.
This place needs to be shut down! This facility is where the opioid epidemic started! Too many veterans have died from overdose and suicide because of this VAMC! I would give it no stars if possible!
Was supposed to have a phone appointment at 8am been calling and getting hung up on all morning. Great place.
Went to the VA for cellulitis and had a 3 night stay. On night of day two, a RN started a new IV but didn't get it in a vein. I ended up with a huge very painfull mellon sized lump in my arm where the saline went and to… top it off she didn't even start the antibiotics drip! The place literally is a death trap!
Had to get scene due to being here for TDY. They were fast, friendly and had me in and out, with my medicine in under an hour. If your a veteran and need help, this is the place to go. They got your six.
I just added a correction to the website. I went to this VA clinic because I had gotten food poisoning and was sick. When I got there it was 5:15 pm, and they were closed even though Google website showed they closed at… 7:00 pm. I was so frustrated however, hopefully the hours gets updated.
Went there for laboratory service
You get what you pay for. Most providers just write prescriptions. Many of the staff do not want to be bothered by Veterans. The lucky Veterans can get community care that IA a little bit better. Most of my fellow… Veterans say "you go to the VA to die".
Great services
Care in the PT department is excellent, but also very busy.
