Rehabs That Take IU Health Plan

IU Health Plans is the health insurance arm of Indiana University Health, the Indianapolis-based health system. Its plans can include coverage for drug and alcohol treatment, with benefits varying by plan, network and level of care.Indiana treatment centers on this page list IU Health Plan on their own websites. The plan’s network may be tied closely to IU Health providers, so network status is the first thing to ask about. Call the member services number on your card, ask whether the facility is in network and whether prior authorization or a referral is needed, and find out what deductible or copay applies. Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Is IU Health Plans still in business?

No. The plan no longer operates under its own name. Elevance Health completed its purchase of Indiana University Health Plans on December 31, 2024, and on January 1, 2026 the plan became Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Indiana members keep coverage under the Anthem name.

The former website, iuhealthplans.org, now redirects to Anthem's Indiana transition page, and the old member portal has been retired in favor of Anthem's Sydney Health app.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does IU Health Plans cover rehab?

Yes. Addiction treatment was covered on both of its lines, Medicare Advantage and fully insured employer plans, and that coverage now runs through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana. Benefits and copays vary by plan and by level of care, from detox through residential and outpatient treatment.

Former Medicare Advantage members can ask about substance use benefits at 800.455.9776; employer plan members use 866.895.5828, TTY 711, 8 am to 5 pm weekdays.

Inpatient Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/programs/inpatient/
Does IU Health Plans cover Suboxone?

Yes, opioid use disorder medication is covered. Medicare Advantage was the plan's largest line and now sits with Anthem, and Medicare covers buprenorphine products such as Suboxone: Part B in doctors' offices and opioid treatment programs, Part A when inpatient, and Part D for some prescriptions depending on the plan.

IU Health Plans formularies are no longer published online, so check the current Anthem drug list for buprenorphine and naltrexone and for any prior authorization step.

IU Health Plan is the directory name for Indiana University Health Plans, the Indiana-only managed care organization the IU Health hospital system created to sell Medicare Advantage and fully insured employer coverage. For anyone pricing treatment, the practical point is that the plan no longer trades under that name, and the benefit paying for rehab today is an Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield benefit.

Elevance Health, Anthem’s parent, announced the purchase on September 10, 2024 and completed it on December 31, 2024, taking on 19,000 Medicare Advantage members across 36 Indiana counties, 9,600 fully insured employer members and more than 160 Indiana-based staff. The IU Health Plans name stayed on Medicare Advantage plans through 2025. On January 1, 2026 Indiana University Health Plans became Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and the insurer’s former website now redirects to Anthem’s Indiana transition page.

That handover is why an admissions team in Indianapolis still hears “I have IU Health Plan” from a member whose card says something else.
