Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What is STAR insurance?

STAR is not an insurance company. It is the State of Texas Access Reform program, the Texas Medicaid managed care program run by the Health and Human Services Commission, in which 16 contracted health plans deliver acute care, behavioral health and pharmacy benefits. Most Texans with Medicaid are covered this way.

Members choose a health plan available in their own service area, and that plan, rather than the state itself, delivers and pays for covered services.

Medicaid Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/
Does STAR Medicaid cover rehab?

Yes, substance use treatment is a Texas Medicaid benefit delivered through the STAR health plan a member chooses. Covered services include assessment, outpatient individual and group counseling, medication-assisted treatment, outpatient and residential withdrawal management, and residential treatment. Day limits come from state rules, and authorization rules are set by each plan.

The benefit covers substance use disorder as defined in the current diagnostic manual, so alcohol and drug treatment fall under the same rules.

Medicaid Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/
Does STAR cover detox?

Yes, both outpatient and residential withdrawal management are Texas Medicaid benefits, each allowed up to 21 days per episode with no limit on the number of episodes. Your STAR health plan arranges the service, and the higher levels of care usually need prior authorization before admission.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and Texas Children's Health Plan both require authorization for withdrawal management and inpatient substance use admissions.

STAR is not an insurance company. It is the State of Texas Access Reform program, the Texas Medicaid managed care program run by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, and the coverage behind it is Medicaid. Treatment is paid for by whichever of the 16 contracted health plans a STAR member chose in their service area.

That distinction decides almost every practical question. HHSC sets the benefit and the service limits; the health plan builds the network, writes the prior authorization rules and answers the number on the back of the card. Two STAR members in different parts of Texas hold the same Medicaid benefit and reach it through different companies, with different directories and different review teams.

STAR runs in 13 service areas and covers low-income children, pregnant women and families. The guide below sets out which levels of addiction treatment the program pays for, the day and session limits written into the state benefit, where prior authorization applies, what a stay costs, how medication is handled, and how to work out which rehab is in network with the plan on the card.
