Rehabs That Take WEA Trust

WEA Trust is a Wisconsin health insurer founded to serve public school employees. Its plans can include coverage for drug and alcohol treatment, with benefits that vary by plan, network and level of care.

Wisconsin centers listed here name WEA Trust on their own websites. Coverage for detox, residential treatment, outpatient programs and counseling can depend on the employer group plan and whether the provider is in network. Some services need prior authorization before they begin. Speak with the facility and WEA Trust before admission to check your benefits, network status, any referral needed and the deductible, copay or coinsurance that may apply.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does WEA Trust cover rehab?

No, not any more. WEA Trust stopped offering health insurance on December 31, 2022, so no addiction treatment claim has been paid under that name since. Former members now get detox, residential and outpatient coverage from whichever carrier they moved to, such as HealthPartners, Dean Health Plan, Network Health or UnitedHealthcare.

Wisconsin state program members had to pick a new plan during open enrollment September 26 to October 21, 2022, for coverage starting January 1, 2023.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Is WEA Trust still in business?

No, not as a health insurer. WEA Trust stopped offering health insurance on December 31, 2022. When the exit was announced in June 2022 the Madison organization said long-term care, life and vision coverage would continue, and 110 employees were notified of job terminations.

Its shared-services company NeuGen LLC, formed in 2018 to administer the plans, was reported to cease Madison operations on August 1, 2022.

What is WEA Trust?

WEA Trust was a not-for-profit Wisconsin health insurer based in Madison, formed in 1970 by the Wisconsin Education Association Council to insure public school employees. It later covered state, county and municipal workers, underwriting coverage through WEA Insurance Corporation until health plans ended in 2022.

At its exit it had about 52,000 members in Wisconsin's Group Health Insurance Program and was the third largest carrier in that program.

WEA Trust was a not-for-profit Wisconsin health insurer for public employees, and it stopped offering health insurance on December 31, 2022. For anyone arranging addiction treatment today, that one date decides everything: a WEA Trust card has paid no medical or behavioral health claim since January 1, 2023, and the benefit now sits with whichever carrier took over the coverage.

The organization was formed in 1970 by the Wisconsin Education Association Council to insure public school employees, later widening to state, county and municipal staff, and underwrote through WEA Insurance Corporation from Madison. On June 1, 2022 it announced that WEA Trust and its sister brand Health Tradition Health Plan would leave the Wisconsin market, citing health care consolidation, pandemic costs and the drop in the stock market. About 52,000 members in the state Group Health Insurance Program, 22% of that program, had to pick new coverage during open enrollment from September 26 to October 21, 2022.

Programs that still list WEA Trust as accepted insurance are naming a plan that has not been in force for years, which is the first thing to settle before an admission date is discussed. This guide covers what the successor plans pay for at each level of care, where prior authorization applies, what the 2026 Wisconsin state and local program designs charge for substance use treatment, how medication is handled, and how to work out which card to hand an admissions team.
