Treatment Centers in Alaska That Accept Wellcare
Wellcare, Centene’s Medicare brand, offers only stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plans in Alaska, so its part in drug and alcohol rehab is the pharmacy side. Treatment itself, from a hospital stay to outpatient counseling, is billed to Original Medicare, and for Alaskans who also qualify, to Alaska Medicaid after Medicare pays.
These listings draw on government treatment registers and Alaska licensing records. For each facility they give a phone number, the levels of care offered and accreditation from CARF or The Joint Commission where it applies. Use the filters to find programs that accept Medicare in Anchorage, Fairbanks, the Mat-Su Valley, Kodiak or smaller Alaska towns.

Does Wellcare Cover Rehab in Alaska?
Only through prescriptions. Centene’s Alaska product page lists Wellcare stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plans as its one Alaska product, and Alaska is not on Wellcare’s list of 32 Medicare Advantage states. Wellcare Classic and Wellcare Value Script are the two drug plans for 2026, sold for addiction treatment in Alaska alongside Medicare.
Wellcare’s drug plans are offered in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., and the October 2026 announcement keeps both plans for 2027. Wellcare runs no Alaska employer, marketplace or Medicaid plan, so rehabs that accept Wellcare in Alaska deal with Original Medicare for the treatment bill and Wellcare only for pharmacy drugs.
Does Wellcare Cover Inpatient Rehab in Alaska?
No, Original Medicare does. Medicare covers inpatient care for substance use disorder, with Part A paying for inpatient mental health care in a general or psychiatric hospital. A Wellcare Classic or Value Script member who needs Medicare residential rehab asks the program whether Medicare pays for that setting.
Will a Wellcare drug plan pay toward an Alaska hospital stay?
No. Drugs given during a covered inpatient stay are part of the Part A hospital benefit, and Wellcare’s plans pay only for prescriptions filled under Part D. Medicare sets a 190-day lifetime limit for care in a freestanding psychiatric hospital, and the hospital’s own medical necessity process decides each stay’s length.
Does Alaska Medicaid add residential coverage for Wellcare members?
For dual-eligible members, yes. Alaska Medicaid covers residential treatment at ASAM levels 3.1, 3.3 and 3.5 under its 1115 waiver, and members with both Medicare and Medicaid pay no Medicaid copays where Medicare pays first. The provider requests any Medicaid service authorization, and benefits questions go to the Recipient Helpline at 800-780-9972.
Does Wellcare Cover Detox in Alaska?
Not directly, because detox is a medical service rather than a pharmacy fill. Detox under Medicare falls within inpatient or outpatient substance use services, and for Alaskans who also hold Medicaid, Alaska Medicaid covers ambulatory, clinically managed residential, medically monitored inpatient and medically managed intensive inpatient withdrawal management. Medicare detox centers can say which program pays first.
Does Wellcare Cover Outpatient Rehab in Alaska?
Outpatient treatment for Wellcare drug plan members is paid by Original Medicare, which covers outpatient substance use services, intensive outpatient programs and partial hospitalization. Part B also covers therapy, counseling, psychiatric evaluation and medication management, so Medicare outpatient rehab bills Part B, and Wellcare covers any prescriptions that come out of those visits.
Partial hospitalization under Medicare gives a structured day program without an overnight stay, which helps Alaskans who can reach a city program daily. Medicare PHP programs bill Part B for the program day. For members in remote towns, Medicare covers mental health counseling by phone or video.
Does Wellcare Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications in Alaska?
Partly. Wellcare Classic and Wellcare Value Script each publish a 2026 formulary on wellcare.com, and those lists decide which pharmacy forms of buprenorphine or naltrexone the plan pays for. Medicare covers methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone given through Part B opioid treatment programs, so medication in a clinic is not a Wellcare claim.
Does Wellcare cover buprenorphine for Alaska members?
The plan’s formulary answers that, drug by drug. Medicare says Part D may cover some medications for opioid use disorder, and Wellcare’s drug plans charge no copay for Tier 1 drugs at preferred pharmacies. Members read the Classic or Value Script formulary before filling buprenorphine maintenance prescriptions at an Alaska pharmacy.
Does Wellcare pay for methadone in Alaska?
No, Part B does. Methadone for opioid use disorder is given at Medicare-enrolled opioid treatment programs, along with counseling, drug testing and peer support, and under Original Medicare those services carry no copay after the Part B deductible. Methadone maintenance clinics bill Medicare rather than a drug plan.
Wellcare Rehab Centers Near Alaska’s Harbors, Interior Lakes and the Copper River
Wellcare’s drug coverage works at any network pharmacy in Alaska, so the setting of a program matters less than whether it is Medicare-enrolled. Many Alaska settings are reached by plane or ferry, and Alaska Medicaid, for dual-eligible members, pays for authorized travel, lodging and meals to reach care not available at home.
Wellcare rehab near Kodiak and Kenai harbors
Harbor towns on the Gulf of Alaska include Kodiak on its island across Shelikof Strait, Seward on Resurrection Bay and Homer at the tip of the Kenai Peninsula. Treatment programs near harbors and Kodiak rehab options bill Medicare for care, with Wellcare filling prescriptions at network pharmacies in each harbor town.
Wellcare rehab near Interior lakes
Interior lakes on the Richardson Highway include Harding Lake and Birch Lake between Fairbanks and Delta Junction, and Quartz Lake just north of Delta. Rehab programs near lakes and Delta Junction treatment options take Medicare where enrolled, and Wellcare covers drugs listed on the member’s formulary.
Wellcare rehab along the Copper River
The Copper River runs from the Wrangell Mountains past Glennallen and Chitina to its delta near Cordova on the Gulf of Alaska. Rehab centers near rivers and Cordova recovery programs bill Medicare for treatment, and Cordova, with no road link to the rest of Alaska, relies on ferries and flights.
How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Wellcare in Alaska?
Browse the listings on this page. Each facility shown accepts Wellcare, and filters narrow them by city, level of care and substance. Each listing gives the facility’s own phone number, so the call goes straight to intake staff, who can explain how the program bills Medicare and which prescriptions go to Wellcare.
Admission for a Wellcare member in Alaska runs through Medicare: the program bills Part A or Part B, and the Wellcare plan only handles pharmacy claims. Alaskans already enrolled in a Wellcare drug plan can reach member services at 1-888-550-5252 (TTY 711) about the formulary. The table sets out which payer handles each part of treatment for these Alaskans.
| Part of treatment | Who pays for a Wellcare drug plan member in Alaska | Line to call |
|---|---|---|
| Hospital or psychiatric stay | Original Medicare Part A | Number on Medicare card |
| Outpatient, IOP and partial hospitalization | Original Medicare Part B | Number on Medicare card |
| Methadone or clinic-given buprenorphine | Part B opioid treatment program | Number on Medicare card |

| Residential care and Medicaid copays (dual eligible) | Alaska Medicaid | 800-780-9972 |
Wellcare rehab in Anchorage
Anchorage pharmacies fill Wellcare Classic and Value Script prescriptions, and Tier 1 drugs carry no copay at preferred pharmacies on both plans. Wellcare acquired Aetna’s Medicare Part D business in September 2019, and Centene moved its other Medicare brands under the Wellcare name in 2022. Listings cover Mountain View treatment programs and Spenard rehab centers.
Wellcare rehab in Fairbanks
Fairbanks Medicare members who want to join or switch drug plans use the annual enrollment window, which runs from October 15 to December 7, 2026 for 2027 coverage, when Wellcare Classic and Value Script both continue. Listings cover Fairbanks treatment centers and Ester rehab options west of town on the Parks Highway.
Wellcare rehab in the Mat-Su Valley
Mat-Su Medicare members with Alaska Medicaid as well can combine Wellcare’s pharmacy coverage with Medicaid’s substance use services, since Wellcare plays no part in authorizing treatment. Wasilla was one of the first communities where Medicaid’s added substance use services began in 2019. Browse Wasilla substance use programs and South Lakes treatment centers.
Wellcare rehab in Bethel and Southwest Alaska
Bethel and the villages of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta sit off the road system, so Wellcare prescriptions there depend on the local pharmacy being in the plan’s network. For dual-eligible members, Alaska Medicaid pays authorized travel to treatment, plus one escort when needed. Browse Bethel recovery options.
Wellcare rehab in Juneau
Juneau prescribers and pharmacists with questions about a Wellcare drug plan use Wellcare’s provider line for drug plans, 1-855-538-0453, while members call the member line on their card. A coverage question about buprenorphine or naltrexone can be settled before discharge from a Juneau program. Browse Juneau substance use programs and Downtown Juneau rehab listings.
Can a Wellcare member in Alaska get rehab in another state?
Yes, for Medicare-covered care. Original Medicare pays Medicare-enrolled programs in any state, and Wellcare’s drug plans are sold in all 50 states, so pharmacy coverage continues. Alaska Medicaid pays out-of-state care for dual-eligible members only when the service is not available in Alaska and the provider enrolls in Alaska Medicaid.
How much does rehab cost for a Wellcare member in Alaska?
Original Medicare sets most of it: a Part A deductible each benefit period with daily coinsurance after day 60, and a Part B deductible followed by 20 percent coinsurance for most outpatient mental health services. Wellcare adds its own cost sharing for prescriptions by tier, and Alaska Medicaid removes Medicaid copays for dual-eligible members.
Wellcare drug plans sit beside Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, sliding scale and self-pay in the listings, and each listing names the payers that facility accepts. Utqiagvik treatment options and programs across Alaska are listed by level of care, each with the payers it accepts and its phone number.
