Center For Emotional Care – Salem Reviews
Reviews are where patients and families describe Center For Emotional Care in their own terms: the welcome at admission, the counseling, the planning for life after treatment.
Reading them is a sensible step before calling the Salem facility. Writing one, if you have been treated there, helps the families who come next.
I have been going to this center for almost two and a half years now. Jagdeep Wander is my psychiatrist, and I would recommend him to everyone. He's very attentive, and cares about the patients needs. I can't say enough… good things about him.
Front staff works well with the public. Sometimes there's too much work and not enough workers to handle the load. That means things fall through the cracks. I left when Molly Sharp, PA-C left and followed her to her… new practice. I made the decision after Dr. Patel kept dropping the ball & stopped responding to calls I left with the staff. He caused me to run out of a med when I gave him ample time, by their rules, to refill it. I like Dr. Patel, but Molly is the one I've seen mostly over the past probably 20 years. Dr. Patel had me go to an appointment with Dr. Wanderer (?sp?). I didn't feel comfortable with him as a backup doctor. He's the reason I needed a refill of the drug Dr. Patel never got around to filling.
Been coming here for about 15yrs. Place has a bad rep. In the past the front desk was pretty cold but the present staff are very nice. M. Patel is a pretty good Dr. , but the PA Molly Sharpe is excellent. I've gotten… some very sound advice from her. They also helped me deal with my disability claims periodically. And helped by prescribing me my meds. So most of what has transpired all these years has been positive. I know they have alot of appt and payment policies but I would still recommend the Center. Update: Molly has left so I see Dr. Patel every visit now. I've gotten to know him pretty well and realize now that he's actually a really nice person.
The office staff was unhelpful and lacked professionalism. It was challenging to get information about providers, as Lizzy seemed to hinder the process. Her approach indicated a lack of understanding of mental health… issues, which was disappointing. I would not recommend this place if you value your time and need compassionate care.
I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this mental health center. I specifically sought help for an ADHD diagnosis after asking multiple times and writing it clearly in the paperwork they supposedly review.… They assured me they could that, but that was completely untrue. After going through the entire process, I was told—AT THE END of the appointment—that they don’t offer official ADHD evaluations and that I was "welcome to pursue it somewhere else." Or spend an undefined of hours with their Doctor "to see" if/when the doctor would seem fit to give me a diagnosis. WTH????? The appointment with Dr. Molly was not only a waste of my time, but it left me feeling worse than when I arrived. I felt gaslighted when I tried to explain the struggles I KNOW I’m experiencing in my body, mind, and life. On top of that, Dr. Molly judged me for my career, saying it sounded like I had "too much anxiety" and recommended a career change. This was completely inappropriate and dismissive. I can’t express how devastating it is to build up the courage to seek help, only to be misled, dismissed, and shamed. Experiences like this are not only discouraging but also DANGEROUS—they can prevent people from seeking the help or treatment they truly need. And to make matters worse, I have to pay for this so-called service, despite trying to resolve the issue with their manager. I was giving excuses saying "our front desk staff is trained and they know what we offer and what we dont". I clearly advised them to train their staff better because if they cannot help with a diagnosis they should be trained to ask the right questions to possible patients calling in for the so called diagnosis. They just covered themselved on this gray area of "we don't do official diagnosis but we can give you a diagnosis so we technically gave you A service so you have to pay for it". This insane and unfair interaction felt like going to a restaurant and ordering chicken, getting brocoli and been told I have to eat and pay for it. This was an unbelievable situation and it has definetely added to my trauma around the health system. The entire experience was heartbreaking and SO DISSAPOINTING, and I wouldn’t recommend this center to anyone. Mental health services need to do better—this kind of treatment is unacceptable. Do better.
Only giving two stars because of Molly. She was the real hero there and the reason I stayed for as long as I did. But it sure seems as though money is more important than any patient care. I haven’t been there in two… years almost and they still from time to time call me to try and milk some money out of me with some “missed” payments??? Anyways you can decide for yourself but here is my warning.
Every other bad review sums it up. I’ve been without refills of antidepressants on multiple occasions and have been forced to suffer through withdrawal symptoms because a guy with a doctoral degree that I spend… thousands of dollars to see for 10 minutes every single month refuses to send in my refills. Which is extremely DANGEROUS and unprofessional. Currently in the process of finding a different office with staff who actually care for their patients. If you’re considering coming here, I beg you, don’t.
DO NOT TRUST YOUR EMOTIONAL CARE TO THESE PEOPLE! There is only one good provider here. Molly. ALL of the admin and front desk staff is RUDE, argumentative, and inept at their jobs. Multiple occasions, they have either… messed up my RX, not sent it to the Pharmacy, or completely disregarded it. At least twice, I have had to go without my medication. On these two occasions, it was completely due to lack of follow through or completion by the staff. For your own health, DO NOT go here!
I have been seeing them now for like 11 years and they have helped me come a long way in my life and they understand me more than I do. They are friendly, kind, courteous people who really believe in helping you get… back to life again. I would highly recommend them to anyone that needs real help. I do not know where I would be today without them.
If I could give 0 stars I would. My friend recommended this place because she had been going for a few years. When I went the front staff made me feel worthless like I didn’t belong there. No smiles and when asking… question was made to feel stupid and incompetent. I had high anxiety at the time and having multiple panic attacks a day. I was worried for other patients who may be dealing with severe depression because this place wouldn’t help at all. When they put me on lexapro I shared that I am scared of new medications and it may take me some time to start taking them. Once I ran out I couldn’t pay the co-pay to see them again and when I called to ask for a refill they stated that I didn’t need the meds as it had been two months since getting the medication so I had to jump off the medication which sent my anxiety through the roof. They said until I pay the money I owe they will not see me or refill my medication. I also didn’t see the actual dr until my 6th or 7th visit. I only saw the nurse practitioner (two of them because one quit) who had to sympathy as I was crying historically due to the daily anxiety I was dealing with at the time. I felt worse every-time I left the office.
Money over patient care, period. Same meds for 4 of the years I was here and still required monthly visits the entire time. The MD never had any productive conversation with me and was more concerned about my marital… and financial status than my mental health. He was also strangely fixated on my degree not being "high enough" and my career was never an issue for me, but he stated it was a "good start, but I seemed to have trouble fully amounting to much." Im an RN. Spent months trying to get someone to adjust my medication with every visit ending in a promise to address it "next visit"... for a YEAR. Front staff is awful, rude, and cold. I was charged for missed appointments that either weren't missed or were phone appointments the provider never called ME for. Every phone interaction I have had with them resulted in frustration. They have no regard for patients being left without medications, even SSRI and SSI medications. Was left waiting on a call for a phone appointment for nearly 3 hours, but when I walked in 6 minutes late due to construction on the entire street they are on and I called ahead to notify them of being stuck in traffic, I was charged $50 for a missed appointment. I've spent more to come here and be disrespected than I have spent for my cardiologist visits. When I attempted to change providers within the clinic, I was told I had to speak directly with the Dr. I wanted to switch from about it during my NEXT APPOINTMENT and he would have to approve me seeing a different psychiatrist there.in other words, pay us for an appointment to discuss why you want to switch and let the problematic Dr. Decide if you can. Out of all the issues... Nothing excuses allowing patient medications to lapse.
I WOULD NOT recommend this facility to anyone. The front staff is extremely rude and inpatient. Every time I had to call my anxiety would increase. It seemed answering the phones was an inconvenience to the staff. The… office manager was cold and rude. I used them for 1 year. During that time I saw four different providers. The providers were constantly resigning from their positions. HUGE RED FLAG!! I know have an amazing provider now and my anxiety has improved
I have been going here for over a year and I can’t be more happy with the staff and my treatment, the girls in the front office are always helpful and very nice to deal with. I feel like I am a person not just a client.… Highly recommend,
This is by far thè worst place I’ve EVER been to. They don’t care at all about patients. I had to cancel one appointment because didn’t have money for copay at the time, they refused to call in my meds until I could… come see them, so I went two weeks without any meds even tho I had explained that to them. Fast forward, went out of town for a few months and when I came back I called to make an appointment ASAP because I was about to run out of meds, they said they was backed up for over a month and I asked them if there was anyway my so called doctor could write me some to do until then, we’ll guess what happened.... nope. Now anyone that takes mental health meds should know how dangerous it is to just up and go without them. I have ptsd, major depression and have had a suicide attempt in the past but they didn’t care AT ALL, so here I went yet again without my meds but for even longer. I see Beverly and she’s un friendly and insulting even. I didn’t have a choice but to go here because everywhere else I called wasn’t taking new patients or was backed up three months. Unless your absolutely out of options and have nowhere else to go, do NOT go here because you will not be cared about, just more money in there pocket. I’ve never seen such a horrible place that cared so little.
Very friendly staff. easy to work with and little to no wait time.
I've been a patient for several years and I have never had a bad experience. Everyone is wonderful and so helpful!
They are fantastic when it comes to psychiatric help. My doctor took the time to work with me to find just what I needed to help with my psychological disabilities. They make sure to have to come in on a schedule in… order to change the medication as needed and check up on you. All of the staff is very friendly and even took the time to work with me when it came to payments when I became unemployed.
Do not come here if you value your mental health. Went here for over a year cause I had no other choice and it was the worst doctor experience of my life. Only about the money and everyone are liars. I got charged… multiple times for missed appointments I didn’t make and was never made to feel like more than a paycheck. Front desk never answered the phone and I literally clocked in my appointment at 4 minutes, doctor didn’t ask any pertinent questions for a checkup, just idle chit chat and then he sent me on my way. Always had to wait at least 20 minutes for my appointment but heaven forbid you were a second late, better be prepared to break out the checkbook. Then they let me go for over a month without medication because of the horribly disorganized system they have and a game of “he said, she said” ran by liars. Do yourself a favor and don’t suffer through the experience of being a patient here.

This place is only interested in money. Continuously running late, spends max of 10 minutes going over how much medication they can pump into you while texting people… This list can go on and on. Should highly consider… changing the name.
Office is negligent, they do not accommodate people with disabilities, and there is a serious breakdown in communication, between the psychiatrist and the front office. The front desk is very unfriendly, and the office… manager appears to either not take their job seriously and/or is incompetent. It gives me the impression that this office is an opportunistic business that exploits its clients, and that it has no problem cutting corners with people, who suffer from severe mental illness.
This place is only interested in money. They couldn’t care less about the well being of the patient. Do not go here!!!
I have been going to Center 4 You since July 2019. I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety, panic attacks and PTSD (regarding fire). Dr. Patel and Molly have done an excellent job with helping me. At first I was on a… lot of medicine to get everything under control. Now they are slowly taking some of the meds away as I don't need them. I have been to every appointment except one and that was because I was sick. The front desk has always been very polite. I do drive 1.5 hours to get there. I leave in plenty of time ... one time time there was an accident on 220 and I called and let them know that I may be late and they worked with me to see me at a little later that day.
I drove my partner to your clinic, we were running literally 5 minutes late. I asked him why don’t you go ahead and call and let them know you’ll be five minutes late? He did. They said that was fine, as he had a five… minute window. Our appointment was at 3:45. We got there at 3:51:30. They refuse to see us, and demanded an outrageous $50 no-show fee, even though we had already called to say we’re going to be quite literally one minute late. This place is absolutely ridiculous, and all of my experiences in therapy in Michigan Oregon and Virginia this is by far the absolute worst.
Love the front staff. Staff and providers are very accommodating. The new renovation to the center have created a modern look that is very inviting. 10/10 recommend for any mental health needs.
