The most horrible experience I’ve ever had with any mental health facility. EVER. And that’s saying something because I had my first therapist at 15yo and have had several over the last 20 years. Zero empathy for me as… a grieving mother at 3 months postpartum. They repeated the same procedural lines to me even when I told them I was in crisis and did nothing to make finding help any easier for me. I will never reach out to them again and would not recommend them to anyone. It’s as if they don’t realize or care how debilitating having mental health issues can be so in order to get help you have to perform tasks like someone who - you guessed it - WOULDN’T NEED HELP! So many people who are in poverty, or are minorities, or are just too traumatized to advocate for themselves slip through the cracks in our healthcare system. This place is an absolute chasm.

These folks have been helping me for years now, beginning with a crisis, through developing coping strategies, and now maintaining a healthy outlook. The clinicians and staff have been there for me. Thanks to all!

I love my therapist!!! I have been with her for a few years now and I can’t imagine having anyone else help me through my healing journey. The front desk staff are also so amazing and helpful and kind!!! I love that… they are always welcoming to me and my two small children. This place really does give me hope and faith in humanity ❤️

Extremely nice staff, very professional, very clean office as well. I would recommend this location to anyone. Dr. Nana Nimo is very knowledgeable and sweet. The office admin staff Jacinta, Jackson, Matthew, Jen are all… over the top! They always greet me with a smile and warm welcome (even when I’m late lol).

Great experience! I got referred by my maternal cardiologist. The waitlist is long but if you call back to check for availability because people do cancel you can get seen sooner. The doctors are amazing. I’ve made… great progress and honestly the wait is worth it. They care about their patients and that is the most important part.

I have been a patient for many years at Northside Behavioral Health. In comparison to other service providers, Northside Behavioral Health is wonderful, I don’t understand the many negative reviews. I once left NBH… because I tried a psychiatrist closer to my residence only to return because my other service provider was so bad. The care you receive is structured according to need. For example, I see a psychiatrist for a maintenance appointment every 6 months, therapy every 2-3 months, and I voluntarily go to a day program they offer once a week. It’s still a lot but manageable. With any disability there can be a lot of appointments, but I work part time and they are very accommodating to my schedule. Several things I can tell about NBH is it’s a respectful environment, it’s not an exceptionally clinical feeling environment, they do require you to see a psychiatrist AND therapist so expect that and some patients may have other requirements according to need. The clinicians are polite and professional. The appointment setting is very easy and they have always had a lenient cancellation policy or let you change the dates of the appointments. I cannot say anything bad, the only thing I know is yes they do require a psychiatrist AND therapist. And some may have to attend other sessions, according to their own situation. Since I left around 2000 and returned 2024, the service has even improved. I also know for those without insurance or limited coverage, they have some programs you can apply to although I do not know the specifics. I have schizophrenia and not all programs will address schizophrenia, they do and compared to the other programs I have encountered since my dealings in mental health since 2003, this one is the best. They have never hospitalized me and I’ve had many years of stability attending NBH.

Been trying to try this place for 10 years at this point because for some reason it’s the only option. You have to wait months for appointments. I just waited at least 3 months for an appointment that I actually really… need. Now at the time of the appointment I’m finding out that my appointment has magically disappeared after I confirmed it through the link they sent me and called them back. They told me I had to wait for them to call but I already confirmed through the link THEY sent me twice so I figured they didn’t want to talk anymore. The person on the phone tells me that the link is through something different and it’s not what they use. Then why would you send something you don’t even use? They don’t even have anyone to explain to you why an appointment you’ve been waiting on for months just disappeared I guess because “it’s around lunch time” I’ve seen other reviews say the same thing. At this point I feel like someone just cancelled my appointment because they wanted extra lunch time or something. Now I have to wait 3 more months. At this point if you need help just move.

I just wanted to parrot the other reviews I have seen, because I think they are really true. The office staff here, while nice, are very disorganized, slow moving, and seem to only get things done when it is convenient… for them. Furthermore, their intake for new patients is ridiculously long which doesn't help you as a patient in any way. The first time I came here the person at the front desk couldn't find the form I needed to fill out. Then, after I got sent back for my actual intake, they discussed my form with me to double check things and go over payment. The person who was doing this had a hard time answering my questions that I had. And also, they listed my partner as "Other" in the emergency contact just because we are in an age-gap relationship. I know I put Partner. This seemed really insensitive to me. Then, I had to do THREE additional intakes. One with a nurse, one with the therapist, and one with the psychiatrist. All on seperate days, and spread out. This all took about a month and a half after establishing care, and I still was barely getting any help. The last things that pushed me to seek help somewhere else, was when they wouldn't send my medical records to my pharmacy to get medicine the psychiatrist perscribed. (A pre-authorization insurance thing.) So I never got it, and stopped taking my meds since the psych told me to hold on my current meds. Which sent me into a spiral mentally, and I tried to call the office for advice. THEY DID NOT GET BACK TO ME AT ALL. That was a MONTH ago. I only heard back from them yesterday when I called to cancel my current appointments and leave care. AND they said the main reason they got back to me was the forecast that showed bad weather. This again felt so insensitive, like the only reason I got a call back at all was for something seperate from my needs as a patient. Look, I just want to clarify I don't think anyone involved personally wanted to make things difficult. No one was ever rude to my face (except that one who went over payment). I get the impression it has something to do with their systems and administration, like above the people I talked to. But this doesn't mean the care I recieved was acceptable or professional.

Very unorganized and unprofessional. Was referred here by my PCP and set up an appointment I had to wait nearly 2 months for. Confirmed the appointment 72 hours prior. Called to see if there were any other openings this… month the day before the appointment and they told me my appointment had bern cancelled because I didn’t confirm (which I did, verbally over the phone). If you are seeking psychological/psychiatric assistance, I fear the stress of getting in a primary appt and lack of care by their admin team should be enough to tell you to find somewhere else to seek help. If the front end isn’t stable, the back end probably isn’t either and I do not trust putting my mental health in the hands of this facility.

My grandson was taken to talk to someone about his anxiety and stress surrounding college. A person named Lamesha signed a form that had him transferred to Ridgeview Monroe, though Northside keep telling us he was going… to Morrow—spelled out. I cannot tell you how awful this experience has been for him. He was not a harm to himself or others and did not have any alcohol or drug problems. We are trying to get him released from Ridgeview—35 miles away from us—and we did not even know what got him there. We may be filing a formal complaint against the behavioral health department at Northside. His mental and physical health has now been put in severe jeopardy. He was just seeking some help with the stress of college. Good grief. This has been a nightmare for him and us.

I never actually got to have my first appointment. I filled out the paper work that was emailed to me, I called them to confirm that they received it and I was put on hold for a good 5 mins before someone came back on… the phone told me to hold some more. I said "Sure! No problem". I was on hold for some additional time then they hung up on me! I figured it was a mistake and tried calling back. Suddenly, EVERYONE IS OUT OF OFFICE AND NOT ANSWERING THE PHONE. Excellent! The next day, no one reached out to me for me virtual appointment with the scheduled DR and that was that. My mental health is HIGHLY important to me, so if this is how they handle things, then I dodged a bullet and Lord knows I definitely don't need bullets. Yikes.

Beware of seeking treatment here. The staff here are insensitive. The negative reviews previously left here over the years are sadly accurate. Also, notice how this establishment hasn’t even cared nor taken the time out… to respond or resolve any issues or concerns mentioned. The negative experience I had has deeply discouraged me from seeking mental health services from the abusive nature and lack of empathy from the staff. Absolutely no accountability whatsoever.

If I could give a half of a star I would. I would not recommend. My mother was billed $600.00 for a virtual visit that consisted of her talking to someone. Not sure if it was a social worker or a nurse. They did… absolutely NOTHING! But tell me that they would refer her to a gerontologist therapist. They sent a list of doctors and it was up to me to schedule an appointment. I am disputing those charges as we speak. Thankfully I found a place by my own calling around to help get her in for an appointment. This place is BS! I have heard good things about NorthSide. We even have a primary care MD who is a NorthSide physician and when I told her about it she was displeased. DO NOT go there. You have a better chance at finding somewhere else to seek treatment

I will never return to seek services from this department ever again. I was given my very first assessment in January via Zoom by an unempathetic Mental Health Clinician named Lindsay Ausburn. Her assessment of me felt… more like an indictment or just plain criticism. To top it off I never heard from her anymore yet the department claimed to have called for a follow up but couldn't reach me so they closed my file. After months of waiting I reached back out for them to tell me that I would have to redo the assessment at which they'd initially charged my insurance $618! I don't recommend this place at all. It seems like nothing more than a money grab to me. Plus when you initially decide to seek out Mental Health Services you want someone who is warm and understanding not someone who is cold or cut and dry. AVOID THIS PLACE if you are looking for a real therapeutic environment that cares!

This is a really awful place, and the people you meet with there will leave you feeling much more worse than you did before you came in there. They're not very personable people, and you can tell that they've had… trouble before because there's a police officer standing by to have you arrested if you don't comply with them or you happen to say the wrong thing to them. Once again here's another place that just doesn't care about you and your general well-being. they only care about one thing and that is their money and their jobs. Stay far far away from this place and I hope and wish you good luck in finding the care that you really need. But you definitely won't find it here. If I didn't make myself clear before they are highly impersonable people and will kick you out the door without even treating you, or explaining to you the reason why they won't treat you.

I have been a patient for almost 4 years. My doctors are Dr Hall and Dr Anderson and have both been great. They have helped me through my terminal cancer diagnosis, my fathers death to cancer and my moms dementia. I've… had a lot on my plate and these woman became the friends I needed that I could share all my secrets with. There have been many ups and downs and I've left every appointment feeling cleansed. All of my appoints have been remote from the comfort of my home. They have always been on time and have only had one cancelation. I have never had my meds increased without a lot of thought and conversation about how I'm coping. I really appreciate both of these ladies for helping me through the hardest time of my life.

It has taken me nearly a year to be able to say what these people did to me. I was so severely over medicated by a “doctor” at NSBH that I ended up on a ventilator in the ICU for seven days, and was in early stage… kidney and respiratory failure. The PTSD that I have to deal with now is costing me so much more…not only financially, but emotionally. Dr. Anderson kept increasing dosages, adding new medications, no bloodwork at all, and there was NO oversight. I had NO point of contact to question. I am very lucky to be alive. No one EVER, should be placed on four SSRI meds plus a sleeping pill.
