Social Services and Amy our Therapist worked above and beyond to get our cousin situated and transferred to a permanent LTC Herrera went in to the facility in total disarray yet in under 10 days I could visually see and… could hear his changes with each call. I am extremely pleased with the outcome and the consistent updates received sometimes even 2-3 times daily. Thank you Dr Abraham, Ms Any and the entire staff at Millwood for making our lives much better all the way around. May G-d continue to provide all the necessary support to maintain your doors open for those with mental health issues. Truly appreciative, E Torbatian
This facility was amazing to my daughter and to me! So helpful and truly appreciated the business offices representative Sherie he helped me with everything in one of the hardest times in our lives. Thank you Milwood!
Took 2-3 days to get ID to call in and check on my brother. Took his daughter threatening to call the police to get to a supervisor to make that happen. When he was checked out we were assured his meds had been ordered.… Went to local pharmacy and no meds. Went back to hospital to find out what was going on. Waiting room empty and wanted information on the meds. No response from anyone until I made threats. They had sent to wrong pharmacy even though I had specifically told them where to send the meds. Will say he was better when he checked out. When I finally talked with case worker she was extremely nice and thorough with all of my questions. Seems they are under staffed and no time to follow through on information. Again the treatment seemed to have made a difference but the support for that was definitely lacking. Would use them again now that I know how to address back end issues initially.
Impressed by the staff. I am grateful for this experience. Thank you🙏
I am extremely disappointed with the care my son received at Millwood Hospital. He was admitted for his mental health and stayed for only 5 days. Unfortunately, just two weeks after being discharged, he ended up back in… a mental health facility. As a parent, this was terrifying and heartbreaking. I truly feel that more could have been done to help my son stabilize and begin his healing. During his stay, my son only saw the doctor once and never saw the doctor again. I did not feel that there was enough effort put into understanding what he was going through or providing the support he needed. I was also very concerned about the environment. There were kids fighting and getting in each other's faces, which did not feel like a safe or therapeutic environment for children who are already struggling with serious mental health issues. What was most upsetting was the lack of resources and a clear plan for when my son returned home. There was no meaningful support or guidance that made me feel confident that he was ready to leave and continue his recovery safely. How can a child be kept in a mental health facility for only 5 days, discharged, and essentially sent home with a “good luck”? Mental health treatment should not feel like someone is simply being processed and sent out the door. As his parent, I needed to know that my son was safe, that he was making progress, and that there was a real plan in place to help him after discharge. Instead, I left feeling like no one truly cared about what happened to him once he walked out the door. Two weeks later, he was back in a mental health hospital. I cannot help but wonder whether more could have been done during those 5 days to prevent things from getting to that point. I sincerely hope Millwood Hospital takes concerns like these seriously and works to improve the care, communication, safety, and discharge planning provided to children and families. Parents trust mental health facilities with their children during some of the most frightening moments of their lives. That trust should be taken very seriously.
I was a patient at Millwood and I feel like it caused me more harm than good. I am in a worst mental state than I was leaving there than before I got there. this place was extremely traumatizing. The communication… between the nurses, doctors, and technicians, is horrible.when we did not oblige by something, they threatened to keep people in there longer. I witnessed voluntary patients be held there against their will. Peoples HIPPA rights were violated on multiple occasions. The nurses were horrible. There Was a patient having an allergic reaction, despite being told that the patient was allergic to something multiple times it was still brought into the patient vicinity. When the patient had an allergic reaction, the nurse asked her if she was actually allergic to it in the mist of The patient CLEARLY Having an allergic reaction. She sat for 20 minutes until she received actual help from the nurses. There was another patient who had three seizures back to back and they refused to call EMS. The technicians seemed to care more about the patients than the actual nurses and doctors. If anyone truly needs help mentally Millwood is NOT The place to go.
ants in my bed, no sheets and terrible staff. rude members and judgmental adults.. staff was spreading rumors about us kids having "lice" because we didn't shower enough.
Horrible rude staff
Hay I feel down I think I need to come back how do I do that can y'all come get me
Everything is an endless loop of "I will get back to you" where no one gets back to you. You will NOT get released when no longer a threat because the doctors don't actually reevaluate as required by law. Terrible… communication. Absurdly restrictive visitation (literally 30 minutes only on only 2 days of the week) and yet they give you patient rights paperwork that states it cannot be restrictive. Good luck getting a patient rights advocate on the phone.
Best place everywhere thank you for being such a great part of my whole family. I could have never done this in my life so thank you for believing in me the way I believe in all of you.N.C.I.S thanks you!!!!!!!!!
The staff there exactly Maxcine, Tyler, Dino, Donald and Others are wonderful and great listeners. They will make you feel more like family is helping you get back to yourself. With their personality and training much… comfort was much needed while recovering there.
They are basically a jail that you can smoke. There are no groups to help with chemical dependency. You see the doctor the first day and never again. My blood pressure went high and my sugar went low and they called… 911. My husband who is my emergency contact was never notified. Luckily it was visiting day and he sat there at Millwood waiting for 45 minutes before they told him I was across the street at Arlington Memorial. MILLWOOD IS A BIG JOKE.
Giving 5 stars to Maxine, Tyler, and Donald for being the support I needed to get through the time I stayed. They treated me as family not a patient. Much love to them- Dixie
Thank you Maxine, Donald, Dino, Suja, Irish, Tyler for all your support, the staying at this hospital wouldn’t be possible without y’all.
I had nice experience at this hospital. They were very kind and understanding. Want send shout out to Maxine, Dino, Tyler they were very straightforward but honest. On how it is going to be. Got me ready to go home and… face the world again. And food was not so bad. Once again I want to say thanks again for everything. Peace and ❤️.
The only reason this place even gets ONE star is because of a handful of the staff members that went above and beyond to help clients with creature comforts and feeling HUMAN. Maxine, Tish, Tequila, Steven, Gwen, Allen,… Donald... shout out to kitchen and cleaning staff. Give Angie and Carlos a raise. Everything else was a horrific nightmare of an experience. Half the nursing staff should be fired and licenses revoked. Trying to drug patients with unnecessary meds to put them in a vegetative state. Laughing at mentally unwell people and addicts coming off whatever drug. Shame on all of you, and you know who you are. Judgement day will come, and you will have to answer for what you did and are doing. Whatever.... whatever.
Thank you miss Maxine for all your help I'ma give you ya Pepsi's on the 22th love yall
UPDATE: Not only did they do what’s mentioned below, but they didn’t even give her belongings to the police. So she’s been in jail for a week now with no phone, no clothes, no glasses, can’t see shit, can’t look up… phone numbers. This is ridiculous. The stress this has caused our family will not be forgotten and we will be seeing what options we have. Since she’s been in jail she has not received any of her medication. Her antipsychotic meds, blood pressure meds, heart meds. She does not have anything she needs. And all of this happened because we sought professional help because we have kids and jobs and cannot baby sit someone 24/7 during an active schizophrenic episode. Millwood you should be very ashamed of your staff and your actions. And your auto generated response means absolutely nothing to me. Family members has schizophrenia and obviously isn’t in her right mind, and she slaps a nurse. The nurse presses chargers and now my family member is in jail facing a third degree felony. Don’t work there if you can’t handle dealing with mentally ill people. That’s like calling the cops on someone in a nursing home with Alzheimer’s. This place is supposed to be a place where people can get help not thrown in jail.
I am not one to typically write reviews, but I will write one for here. I was here early May. If I could give different people there different reviews there I would. I will start off by saying please take a deep dive on… if this place is really for you and do your research. As a voluntary patient I felt this was my only option in the moment. Will I lie and say I didn’t get anything out of it? No. But the only positives I can truly speak on is the MHT Maxine, and all of the therapists. Now for Dr. Bhatia, who made his diagnoses after a 5-minute conversation, who discontinued a medication that should not be discontinued cold turkey, I’d say that is pretty negligent, especially knowing the side effects. I was taken completely off of a full dose SSRI that I had been on for over 6 months. Not weaned off, not a different dose, different type, just taken off. For anyone wondering, yes, SSRI withdrawal is a real thing and I had to see my normal psychiatrist right when I got out of Millwood, she was shocked that I had been taken off a high dose at once. There looked to be about seven different doctors there, only a couple actually work for the hospital and the rest are independent contractors. Out of my 5 day stay, I saw Dr. Bhatia one time and then a zoom call before I was about to be discharged (after signing an AMA and being placed on 24 hour hold). I saw the bill lady before I saw a doctor. If you are looking for a nicer, professional facility, this is not it. The food was good I will say. But it is outdated and just uncleanly. Most of the techs do not want to be there, and make it known. Which makes the patient, who also does not want to be there, uncomfortable. At least it did me. Again Maxine and Ruth were great techs but that is all I can say. I hope the other patients I met there are doing well now as they were part of what got me through that experience.
Excellent treatment from therapists (such as Izzy), nurses (such as Scott and others) techs (such as Ruth and others), and office staff. This is a great hospital to get you on your way to recovery.
Extremely outdated facility, poor staffing, poor daily structure, and poor management.
I entered this psychiatric hospital shortly after giving birth via cesarean section, and my experience was terrible. From the beginning, I felt I was treated differently because I spoke Spanish. On several occasions, I… was forced to speak English, even though I explained that I wasn't fluent. They never made an effort to get an interpreter or communicate with me in a way I could understand. I arrived with a vaginal infection and was already taking medication prescribed by the hospital where I had been treated previously. During my stay, they stopped giving me that treatment, so I went almost two weeks without the medicine I needed. As a result, I left with a much worse infection. I was also recovering from a cesarean section and was in a lot of pain. On one occasion, I fell in a hallway, and several minutes passed before anyone noticed and helped me up. It was a very distressing situation. Furthermore, I was constantly pressured to participate in group activities, even though I was neither physically nor emotionally ready to do so. I want to thank a nurse who once helped me clean my C-section incision. She was one of the few people who showed compassion and professionalism. The only good thing about this place was the food. That's why I'm giving it one star. There was even a nurse named Melinda who, in the middle of a fever, never attended to me. She just ignored me the whole time until her shift changed. She even knew I was calling her, but she ignored me and left. It was awful because she never checked my vitals. I felt cold and had chills and everything, and they just told me to lie down. There were other nurses around her who said the nurse would come later. They finally checked me when her shift changed. My fever started around 3 pm, and they checked me at 8 pm, right after the shift change. So, it was the nurse after her who I saw. She was the worst nurse I ever had in that place… My experience as a patient was hell. I hope this hospital improves care for patients who speak other languages, respects the medical treatments people arrive with, and offers more humane and dignified treatment.
What an exceptional hospital. The staff were wonderful. The food is good. Would definitely recommend.
In a horrible time as a parent, trying to do whats best for your child in this scary moment, Millwood was the worst place I had to put my faith in to help! Incorrect information was given, major false accusations,… unprofessional staff. Asking to follow the chain of command upset the staff and speaking all the way from nurse, house supervisor to director got worst as you went up. When my daughter was discharged, she said staff cusses and is extremely snippy with patients. I would never recommend Millwood for pediatric patients!
My experience with Millwood Hospital was deeply disappointing and left me feeling that the facility prioritized processing patients over providing meaningful mental health care. The apparent focus was on prescribing… medication rather than providing compassionate, individualized treatment. The environment was impersonal, disorganized, and dismissive. After being admitted on a Tuesday morning, I was shown to my room with virtually no explanation of what to do or where to go. Questions were often ignored, and many staff members behaved unprofessionally, openly cursing at one another and even at patients. I did not see a physician until halfway through my second day. Dr. Hemant Day spent approximately five minutes with me, reading questions from a paper with little meaningful interaction or attempt to understand why I had been admitted. During that brief meeting, he prescribed Celexa and diagnosed me with Major Depressive Disorder without discussing the diagnosis with me or conducting what I believe was a thorough evaluation. I did not learn of the diagnosis until my court hearing nearly a week later. It felt as though a label had been assigned simply to justify my continued hospitalization. Patient safety was also concerning. An elderly patient believed to have shingles was admitted to our unit and allowed to interact freely with others before our wing was suddenly placed under quarantine. Patients lost visitation, outdoor access, and communal meals, while staff wore masks and protective equipment but patients were given none. We were never asked whether we had immunity to chickenpox, and the patient with shingles was later found wandering freely in the common area without staff awareness. The response appeared disorganized and inconsistent, leaving patients confused and anxious. The quarantine also resulted in canceled visitation after we had been promised a special makeup visitation period. My husband called to schedule the visit only to be told no visitation would occur. For patients already struggling with mental health issues, this unnecessary isolation was especially distressing. Rest was nearly impossible. Night staff routinely shouted across the halls, entered rooms talking loudly, shined iPad lights into sleeping patients' faces, and woke everyone around 4:00 a.m. for vital signs. The constant interruptions made meaningful sleep nearly impossible. Patients who already have established therapists should be encouraged to continue that care whenever appropriate. Coordinating with existing providers would be far more beneficial than relying on generalized group sessions and rushed evaluations that fail to address individual needs. The mental health system cannot improve if financial incentives outweigh personalized, evidence-based care. Despite my negative experience, I found genuine comfort in the other patients and hearing their stories. I also want to recognize the few employees who consistently treated me with kindness, dignity, and compassion: Maxine, Dino, Ellen, Izzy, and a recently married staff member with brown hair and glasses whose name I unfortunately cannot recall. Their professionalism stood in stark contrast to much of the experience, including my interactions with the court liaison, Stephanie, and the attorney appointed to represent me.
