Discovery Point Retreat – Waxahachie Detox and Rehab Services
Discovery Point Retreat – Waxahachie is listed as running detox and residential treatment. The withdrawal stage is clinically observed, which is what makes it safer than stopping alone. Which of these is appropriate depends on an assessment, not on what sounds manageable at the time.
Combined treatment is not recorded, which is worth checking before committing. Approved medication is paired with counseling and regular review. It is worth asking how many hours a week the program runs, because that decides whether it fits around everything else.

My time at Waxahachie DPR has not only improved my want of sobriety but also my want for help. I am so thankful for this program and the wonderful staff.
dpr is a great place the residants helped me out and the therapist helped me so much
Mr Mike Gurr has been a great and positive help to my recovery. He is an awesome guy and I appreciate his help in my mindset of the importance of doing the entire program and staying in recovery. DPR has saved my life… and I would recommend this program to anyone who is serious about their recovery.
This place helped me achieve 65 days of sobriety! I am so thankful for DPR and all they did to help me on my path to recovery. The therapists were amazing and the recovery coaches were so helpful. The amenities help me… forget that I was even in rehab. Excited to take the next step in my recovery. And I am so grateful for this program again. Love you all and cant wait to Come back and share my story!
DPR is a great place! The staff is caring, the program is great and it's beautiful out here. The people in the house (residents) were a great tool also bc I learned alot from them as well. I highly recommend this place… for care.
Experience was great! I liked all of the staff. What helped me most in my time there was the amazing staff who supported me and got me through some tough times. The clinical staff was very professional and I could trust… them which is so important in a treatment setting. The new Executive Director is caring and making great changes there that helped in my recovery. I would highly recommend this place for those that are serious in their sobriety.
This place was a nightmare. The first 2 days I was detoxing and slept most of the time. Nothing I was told when I got there came to fruition. I was told I could have my phone after 7 days and never got it until 11 days… later when I left. I was in a bad state when I got there and didn’t realize I forgot my purse and $100 bill in it until I got home and have been calling multiple times a day for the last 6 days and did not get a response until the 4th day (Friday) when the director (Doc) called me after I threatened the police and said he would personally go look and call me back and it’s Monday and I have not heard from him. I have been constantly getting the run around. The only belongings they took inventory of was my wallet and it’s contents and electronics. They lost one of my AirPod pros as well. I have told them to go check their cameras at my intake time to see where they put it and even sent a picture of what it looks like. The room it’s in is the size of a living room and I could go through the whole thing in one day so the “we are looking for it” line I have been getting since Friday is a bold face lie. The employee who does the tobacco and vape runs kept my credit card from Thursday until Monday so I had to wait on her to arrive before I could discharge. The accommodations aren’t bad but I was in the best room they have. There was a nest of baby birds in the chimney the whole time I was there that chirped loudly at all hours that was never addressed. The staff never follow up on anything and the only response you ever get is “I put it in the chat” or “I haven’t heard back” and then nothing. I have 5 complaints filed by myself and various residents there filed while I was there that no complainant ever got a follow up on and they promise 72 hours. I will be filing them formally with the state once I get the statements from the others I know of regarding their “missing” property. They have a lady named Tammy who works overnight who cusses people out (happened to me as well) and says the n word in every other sentence. I have made contact with my insurance company requesting them to deny the claim as I am meeting with my lawyer this week because I’m not paying for a thing until I get my property. 5 others that discharged around my time are also missing property and getting the same run around. I have also had to file a stolen property report with the sheriff and will be filing suit and pressing charges. They also change the medicine rules all the time. One nurse will give you everything at once and the next splits it up so you spend hours a day in the medicine line. There’s also a lot of themed from peoples rooms and yelling and cussing and fighting at night. It’s like a frat house where they break select rules unless they want to single you out and then the rules are the rules. It was so bad, I’m pricing billboards on 45 warning people about this place.
This place is one of the worst detox-rehabs I have ever interacted with. Took a family member here and the drama started before the day was even over. The providers are uninformed about safe medical detox practices.… Wanted to give suboxone within 24 hrs of fentanyl use which would have put my loved one into precipitated withdrawal. Refused to treat with methadone saying it was in their system and being abused. So I imagine that street drugs can be cut with all sorts of substances but methadone is not one of them huh? That was only the beginning. They make you sign an agreement that you won’t leave for 48 hours so they can address and remedy any issues you might have. Well they didn’t take lightly to my loved one deciding to leave. We still have not been able to get all their belongings. I have been down there once. No one would answer the gate phone. I called and no one answered. Waited 10 minutes. Called back and was sent to voicemail after 3 rings. Left a message that I was waiting at the gate to pick up personal belongings. Waited 15 more minutes. Nothing. Had to leave for work. My loved one went down there. He was able to get his ID and wallet but they didn’t bring his clothes and Bible and a couple books and hygiene. Although he had placed all his belongings in the laundry bag in the closet before he left. They took away his suitcase and backpack upon admission to prevent people from walking out with their stuff when they realize what a farce the place is. He proceeded to wait an hour and no one ever returned with his personal items. This is absolutely unacceptable. If you are in the business of detoxing people who are physically dependent on opiates, then you should be well aware of how different medications interact with others and also that the extreme discomfort of withdrawal is a huge part of what keeps these individuals using long after they have wanted to stop. I’m sure the 48 hour thing has something to do with being able to charge insurance and that is why they are so upset their check walked out the door. When I looked into this place I did so because I did not want my loved one to have to suffer unnecessarily. Addiction is degrading enough. You people treating them like cattle to be isolated and locked away until you can cash a check for them is inexcusable.
Absolutely nothing like the website Makes it look like and if you leave early, take your stuff because if you come back for it, they will make you wait outside the gate. I’ve been here for an over an hour. They brought… me my wallet, then went back for my clothes and here I’ve been sitting childish games.. Update. Never came back to the gate. So basically have kept my belongings. The waxahachie location is not recommended. Myself and my wife have both gone up there unable to retrieve my things. I admit should have taken them with me.. doesn’t excuse not returning them. 🤦♂️ do better. Yall claim to want to help.
I completed a 30\-day stay at the DPR Waxahachie location\. Overall, the facility itself was nice, a massage therapist was brought in toward the end of my stay, and the pool was maintained reasonably well for much of my… time there. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the clinical side of treatment. During my entire stay, I only had one individual therapy session. Given how important therapy is to addiction recovery, this was a significant concern. In my experience, patients often had to repeatedly seek out therapists and advocate for themselves just to receive assistance or schedule appointments. The facility also appeared to be experiencing a serious staffing shortage. I would like to recognize several staff members who positively impacted my experience, including JJ, Christina, Ms. Cindy, Millie, Aneesa, and the nursing staff. Their kindness, encouragement, and recovery-focused discussions helped make my stay more productive and enjoyable. I still use some of the recovery tools and exercises they taught me in my daily life. My biggest concern was with the leadership of the clinical department. As a patient, I often felt that the Clinical Director, Chelsea, was more focused on enforcing rules than supporting patients in their recovery. I found many of my interactions with her to be impersonal and discouraging. Because of these experiences, there were several times I considered leaving treatment early. In a position that has such a significant influence on patient care and treatment planning, compassion, communication, and patient advocacy are essential qualities. If I could do it over again, I would spend more time researching treatment options and asking detailed questions about the level of therapy and individualized care provided. Recovery should be the primary focus of any treatment center, and patients should feel supported throughout that process. I also found that some policies seemed to change frequently, which created confusion among patients. While there were positive aspects of my stay and several staff members who genuinely cared, the lack of consistent therapeutic support and concerns regarding clinical leadership prevented this from being a more positive experience.I hope DPR takes patient feedback seriously and works to improve the quality and consistency of care provided.
Truly unacceptable for a rehab facility. The staff was great but its generally aimed at setving people of the farer skin. I was lied on and there wss no way to continue my rehab and get a fare shake. Once i was… discharged i went straight back to rock bottom. Think twice about coming here.
I’m sure this facility provides quality care, but getting in contact with a loved one is nearly impossible. I understand HIPAA laws, but when a patient has signed a HIPAA release and designated someone as an approved… contact, there is no legal reason to block communication. In fact, under Texas law, specifically the Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 321, also known as the Patient’s Bill of Rights, patients have the right to have a family member or another person of their choice notified of their admission and to reasonable access to communication unless clinically contraindicated. Denying that access, especially after HIPAA permission has been granted, goes against that standard. Additionally, if this facility accepts Medicare or Medicaid, they are subject to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations, which require that patients and their representatives have the right to be informed of their condition and changes in status, have access to their personal representative or family, and file grievances if communication is not reasonably provided. Despite this, every time I call, I’m transferred to admissions and told they can’t contact the facility directly. Instead, I’m told they will email a request to staff, but I never receive a callback. I’ve called multiple times with no resolution. I was so concerned I contacted the local sheriff’s office to file a missing person report. Even they acknowledged the facility’s lack of responsiveness. Let me be clear. HIPAA was never meant to block communication when consent has been given. Unfortunately, it’s being used here as a shield for silence. That’s not only emotionally damaging to families, it’s a gross misapplication of federal law and a potential violation of both Texas patient rights and CMS conditions of participation. The emotional toll of not knowing whether my loved one is okay has been overwhelming. And knowing that when it comes time to collect payment, I’ll likely be the first person contacted makes this feel even more transactional and disconnected from the compassionate care that’s promised. I hope this feedback encourages a review of your communication protocols. Families shouldn’t be left in the dark, especially when every legal protection to allow contact is already in place. Update to reply from Dicovery Point: This was not about access to detailed medical information or challenging clinical judgment. It was a systemic failure in communication. Despite a valid HIPAA authorization being on file, there was no reliable way to confirm basic wellbeing or receive a return call. Being repeatedly routed through admissions with no follow-up reflects a breakdown in communication protocols, not a clinically guided limitation. There was no clear or communicated clinical reason to exclude family support in this situation. When a patient designates an approved contact, there should be a consistent process for at least basic updates. That process was not functioning. This was not a privacy issue. It was an operational issue. There are countless peer-reviewed studies showing that family involvement improves treatment outcomes, retention, and relapse prevention, including meta-analyses published in Psychological Bulletin and systematic reviews in Family Process. Limiting communication despite authorization undermines a well-established component of evidence-based care. If there is any question about this experience, I encourage others to contact the facility directly and attempt to reach a site administrator. In my experience, calls were not returned. The local sheriff’s department also shared that they have had ongoing difficulty getting responses from this facility. The fact that this is being framed around HIPAA and “clinical discretion” should give families pause. Those concepts do not justify a complete breakdown in basic communication. These events occurred and can be verified.
WHAT’S THE NAME OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL TREATMENT FACILITY THAT DOES MORE HARM THAN GOOD CALLED?….DISCOVERY POINT RETREAT! Do yourself a favor if you are seriously considering going to this place. Contact Texas Dept. Health… and Human Services and learn about the endless list of complaints and numerous investigations into their harmful, threatening, and unethical business practices. It will confirm my strong disapproval and hugely disappointing experience of this facility. I attest all negative reviews are true and accurate. Admittedly, the counselor and nursing are top notch. However, I can’t say the same for their management staff and billing department. Management threatened clients, if they didn’t stay the full 60 days they would withhold their certificate of completion even if it a 30 day treatment program was previously agreed upon. Make no mistake about this facility. They want as much of your and insurance money as possible and will go to unscrupulous ends to get it. 3 months after leaving, I received a $6000 bill for patient responsibility because supposedly my insurance didn’t cover certain services. Upon calling my insurance company, I was informed that my insurance paid this amount. Their billing practices sent my supposed outstanding balance to a debt collector. I presented proof of payment and never heard back from either DPR or the debt collector. I wonder how many unsuspecting clients have been defrauded and unknowingly paid these after treatment bills or have had their credit score severely damaged. Their tactics threatened my recovery, well being, and my ability to buy a new home. Don’t be fooled by their website pictures of the facility and living arrangements. Their septic tanks use a sprinkler system to lower the levels inside releasing a god awful putrid stink several times a day forcing everyone indoors. All clients stay under one roof with rooms holding up 4 people. To obtain restful and rejuvenated sleep is nearly impossible. With all the clients under one roof, expect endless drama and chaos depriving you peace and tranquility necessary to recover. I could write a dissertation on how awful this treatment facility is run. I feel bad for the counselors because they are very good at what they do but a tarred and tainted by how management disempowers them overtakes one’s general assessment of this facility.
I came here at a very low point in my life so I wasn't expecting a whole lot..they were going thru a transition at the time but they were trying to make the process work. The staff were the absolute best though. Cindy… Kendra, Kate jj were the high point of my stay. Starr in that kitchen had me always anticipating something good she would be putting together. BREA is the best counselor ever!!!!!
I had a very concerning experience attempting to get help for my son through Discovery Point Retreat. I emailed Breana Bohannan, MHR, LCDC, the Clinical Director, multiple times and also left several voicemail messages.… None were returned. When a parent is reaching out for help for their child, especially in a vulnerable situation, timely communication is critical. Not receiving any response after repeated attempts is alarming and does not inspire confidence in the level of care or responsiveness at this facility. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution others to consider how accessible and responsive the leadership is before relying on this program during a crisis.
DPR was truly an amazing experience. They genuinely care about you and your recovery journey. Lucus pours his heart into this place and it shows. Cindy, TJ and JJ were extremely supportive and personable. The nurses,… Amanda, Kenya, Bradie, and Kate were so kind and helpful. And of course Drew and Star were a highlight with the awesome food they prepared and had really great insight. It is truly a gem in the recovery community.
I truly believe, in my opinion, this place is an insurance scam through and through. Everything on the website is a lie. Admissions will lie about what they have to offer & say whatever you want to hear to get you in… the door. To the point that a couple came in and had been told it was a couples only rehab- it was not. As far as amenities go, there’s a gym and a pool, I went horseback riding once and that is it. They don’t host any AA/NA meetings or promote any 12 step program; in fact, the entire facility only had two big books. The groups were less than optimal, most of them being peer led or trivial activities like watching intervention. There is very little knowledge to be gained here. Staff would show up late to group, sometimes they wouldn’t show up at all and it was a collective “welp, I guess we’re not having group.” As far as therapy goes there is no EMDR, no trauma counseling, and they hardly do the basic CBT & DBT. Be prepared to have their PHP program just absolutely shoved down your throat. They had no discharge planner and, in my case, it took five days of panic attacks and practically begging them to help me put together an aftercare plan until a plan came together the DAY that I left. I was unbelievably stressed. Severely understaffed and disorganized, the communication between staff leaves a LOT to be desired. Don’t expect to see your phone once the entire time you’re there & if you need it to pay bills, check emails, or figure out your aftercare plans- good luck. This is a very negative review but during my stay, I truly did try to give them the benefit of the doubt time and time again and I was let down and failed so many times. And so many people felt the same way I did while I was there. There was some good staff, the nursing staff & a couple of the RC’s, the chefs, and my therapist (shoutout Christina) were amazing but the program itself is absolute garbage. It feels to me as though (IN MY OPINION) this place is an insurance scam/money mill Please, if you truly want to get sober, choose a different rehab!!!! Good luck out there to whoever is reading this & I hope you and your loved ones make it out of the hell that is addiction.
Really two and a half is more fitting. Beware of the insurance information listed on the website—it’s very misleading. Just because your provider is shown there does not mean they’re actually in network. In reality,… they’ll most likely be out of network with any provider, but will still happily take your money. To make matters worse, the staff and counselors continue to verbally verify that your insurance will be accepted without clearly stating that services will be billed at out-of-network costs. I’m sure their handbook and website portray honesty and integrity in helping people with addiction, which makes it even more disappointing that they do not follow through with this core value. That said, I am grateful I was able to attend when I did and receive the support I needed. The counselors and staff provided valuable resources and genuine care. Unfortunately, I’m now out several thousand dollars even though I had already met my deductible. I’m disappointed I could not be reimbursed. The help I received was meaningful, but I wish the insurance situation had been handled with honesty and transparency
The facility, staff and overall program was first rate. I cannot recommend Discovery Point enough to those seeking help with learning to control an addiction and living a clean healthy life.
I had faith in this facility but now I don't not. I will be contacting my insurance company for a Compliance Review so they won't get paid a dime. This is totally not acceptable.
I don’t even know where to begin. This treatment center is truly changing lives. My husband attended their program during one of the hardest times our family has ever faced, and I can confidently say they gave us hope… and confidence in his recovery. From day one, the staff treated him with compassion and dignity. They weren’t just professionals—they were caring, patient, and truly passionate about helping people rebuild their lives. The counselors went above and beyond, not just helping him work through addiction, but helping him rediscover who he is without it. What meant the most to me as a spouse was how they kept family involved and supported throughout the process. I felt heard and understood. This wasn’t just treatment—it was transformation.
Discovery Point is an amazing place. I’ve only been here for a week, but it already feels like home. A pool, nice gym, great staff, and amazing chefs. Drew (chef) on top of her great cooking, is so positive and always… smiling, and Star makes the best desserts - we even get desserts at breakfast when she’s here!! At the support staff and nurses are so kind and patient. So if you need a place to heal and recover from your addiction issues - this is the place:)
I love it here. The food is excellent with personal chefs, the staff is very helpful, the facility is clean and on the outside, and there is a comfort to this facility. Our outings together for group have been so much… fun. The therapists are amazing and have helped me tremendously. Tim and Sam are just simply the best here. I couldn’t have found a better place for my recovery. 🤠💜
The Waxahachie facility is a clean and well organized. They took care of my loved one with such great care and respect. Tim made sure there was good communication and made sure my loved one had everything they needed,… he definitely went above and beyond for the care of my loved one. This facility has so much support for not only your loved one but for you as well.
Wonderful place for recovery
Great staff and real people with real stories to tell. Varied backgrounds of rehabilitation, but common goals. Great meals cooked for you. Was nice to get back to my real life in a relaxed and secluded location. Don't… think I could have done it without them :)
Great place to get yourself on the right path to a healthy life. Awesome food, a supportive staff who can relate, and very little drama or stress.
