When I first walked through the doors of Aurora asking for help with alcohol detox, I was in a truly critical place. Given the severity of my situation, I probably should have been in the ICU. But Dr. Salas knew exactly… what to do, and her incredible expertise and care kept me safe and stable enough to stay at Aurora.The entire team was wonderful, treated me with real kindness, and even helped me find a rehab program to go to immediately after I left. While there was one nurse whose behavior wasn’t the best, it didn't change how grateful I am for the overall care. (And as a small bonus, the food is amazing—you’d never think you were eating medical facility food)Today, I am 9 months and 15 days sober, and I truly have my life back. I think about my time at Aurora often, and I regularly recommend it to other alcoholics in AA who are ready to get sober.To Dr. Salas, if you are reading this: I owe you my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you did for me. You are someone I have continued to think about and appreciate throughout these last 9 months, and I will never forget your life-saving care. Thank you for giving me my future back.I hope our paths cross in life one day so that I can thank you in person. Ps I have a ton of people I would lo thank, but my memory was still pretty heavily affected at that time. So thank you my rec therapists, counselors, social workers, nurses, cooks, and truly everyone in the building. Thank you for what you did for me and continue to do for others! {Anonymous alternate profile for writers privacy}
This abomination to Hippocratic Oath did far more harm to me and my life than good. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because there were at least some good people working there and I met some cool people while… being held for 10 days involuntarily on a voluntary sign in and being forced to take drugs I am religiously opposed to. Some of the staff, particularly Nurse Deborah and Dr. Solase, the tech Rachel and that rude tech with the attitude who somehow avoided me ever learning his name are downright criminal. This institution need serious investigation for criminal violation of human rights taking place.
I was scared when I went in and staff made me feel more comfortable
A social worker/discharge planner here, I believe her name is Ronda discharged me to the Salvation Army without bothering to verify that that place would accept me, and when I got there the woman in charge of the… women's unit said there were no beds available. Also, two nurses here on unit 2 were very emotionally abusive to me, and neither of them had the maturity to apologize. One was Rachel, heavy set with long blonde hair. The other, whom I unfortunately can't remember her name, had dark hair and looked middle aged. All I did is express my concerns about discharge and it annoyed them. I tried to tell them that their choice of words were very hurtful, and they both twisted everything I said and started to intimidate and bully me with their tones and body language. I felt unsafe around them because of all this and then they threatened me with calling their supervisors on me when all I did is try to stand up for myself. They were very disrespectful to me about my loved one, our marriage, and our situation. It amazes me that they treated me like I was the one in the wrong, threatening to get me in trouble with their supervisors when they are the ones who behaved inappropriately and to the point of deserving to be reported, if not fired. They knew I was homeless and uninsured, and I can only assume that's why they believed they could get away with being so nasty to me. Rachel assured me the staff here were doing everything they could to make sure I would have a safe place to go upon my discharge, so there was no reason for me to irritate them about it. Nope! I do not recommend this place at all
The staff here were absolutely amazing. They truly cared about my needs and made me feel important. I do feel like it would have been beneficial to have more one on one time with a therapist or social worker while… there, but I know resources are limited. As well as please stop slamming that door ALL night in Unit Two. 😅 Two people that stood out to me were one of my nurses Christy and my social worker Jerry they were both extremely attentive and caring, my social worker took the time out of her busy schedule to make sure I felt cared about and understood. Overall this place made a very positive impact in my life, thank you!
I was in the adulecence uni. my nurse gave us extra icecream
I have been to several hospitals both as a patient, parent, friend and employee. Aurora Pavilion is one of the best. They keep patients busy and are concerned about social, intellectual, physical and creative needs. If… you have a specific need however, or want to be treated as an individual with individual needs you will be called demanding, attention seeking and given a BPD or adjustment disorder diagnosis. They seem to want to encourage learned helplessness and that advocating for yourself means you are disordered. Make sure you understand your rights for privacy because they will talk right in front of others about your business unless you request privacy. Make sure you know your rights and locate the patient advocates number and don’t be afraid to use it. At one point the psychiatrist pointed out to me that “I don”t have time for you”. Which having worked in these types of places….get more staff then, delegate responsibilities better. Listen to what patients say rather than forcing them to accept your reality. People go there for services and help. What you get is another adult daycare with “professionals” who either think they are a detention center officer or a Psychiatrist (Salas) who thinks they know you better than you know yourself after only 10min. All they have to do is mark that you have poor insight and judgement and everyone else on staff will believe this too. Then they all feel justified in ignoring any concern you have.
I have only been there a week. But it’s going good so far. Laura is really good and keeps it engaging.
You all are Amazing..Thank you Ms.Betty for everything you do there and for actually taking extra time to get to know and better help individuals like myself. There's another lady who is also in the intake area who name… i think starts with a C but I remember her Zeta armband 💙 who was VERY understanding when I had to do impatient on my last vist. Thank you again. To Nurse Debra 💝👌🏾 tell them people triple that pay cause GOD knows you deserve it. Thanks for holding down that unit like no other..being there twice you know it can be challenging for anyone. Thank you💪🏾🤝🏾 and lastly but not least to DR.SALAS I love you lady..those words will stick with me forever🙏🏾 Serenity Behavioral Health should take many notes from you guys. Thanks to an amazing team!
TLDR: they mishandled my case tremendously and left me feeling worse. Don’t send yourself or loved ones here for genuine support. TW: suicidal ideation I come in to the er with suicidal ideation, get sent to Aurora,… they take forever to evaluate me. They send me home with the office number to call. They specifically said to call the next day so I don’t have to get a reevaluation (which you need after 7 days). I called DAILY for 3 weeks and only got voicemails and people who didn’t even know my case or situation or who to send me to.. all leading to voicemails. Finally after 3 weeks I get a call from a “brand new” outpatient coordinator (as if being new means I deserve this for someone who is experiencing suicidal ideation) the OC says he doesn’t know much but could try to fit me in within 2 weeks. He was supposed to call me back, never did nor did he answer my calls or voicemails. After calling and calling and being sent to various people I finally get ahold of someone in registration? He was actually helpful but said SINCE THEY MESSED UP I needed a reevaluation (since it was over 7 days). I go in 6/2/26 and get reevaluated, never have met “the NP” who was “handling” my case and I’m sent to IOP. An outpatient program, 3 days a week. I work so this was my only option. I go in and I swear it felt like I was in kindergarten for therapy. I stated I have had issues my whole life and have been in and out of therapy for years. The therapist said “I walk the walk and talk the talk” then produced to use guess work to assume my upbringing and life (all of which I said I already got help for years ago and that I needed other help). All in all it felt like an AA meeting. Which again, if that’s what you need great but for me it’s not. I end up leaving on break (which I was later told I wasn’t allowed to do) whatever. The next day I’m called by the office and I explain my situation and how I want to leave the program. They try to convince me otherwise and say I need to be seen by the NP (who I’ve never met, but apparently should have). I ask if that’s legally required because I’m quite done with this whole thing. They then send me to the ADVOCATE who I was supposed to be seen by IMMEDIATELY after my initial meeting to you know advocate for me. That didn’t happen, I didn’t even know they had one. She apologized and said she’ll talk to all them so they “do better”. Anyway. If you are thinking of sending a loved one or yourself here for mental health support especially for suicidal thoughts, don’t waste your time.
Mr Oliver is the worst man on the planet. But Nurse Sherry is the greatest woman to graze their floor. Also Nurse Deborah (sorry if I spelled it wrong) is an AMAZING woman as well. It’s really all the nurses and techs… that’s are great. Except for Mr Oliver. Nobody likes him. All he does is brag about how he beats everybody in some games and he tried to talk to my mom. What typa man tries to talk to a MARRIED WOMAN ?!
Top notch hospital and mostly wonderful staff!
Do not recommend!! The staff (psychiatrist/NP) pick and choose who they want to apply “policies and procedures” to (Voluntary patients wanting to leave AMA, one patient required to wait 24hrs but processed another… patient within 2hrs). They seem more concerned about being paid by insurance than the actual well being of the patient! Telling a patient who is mentally competent and not a danger to themselves that wishes to leave AMA “they are being discharged the next day anyways” is unacceptable! No negative feedback on the actual nurses (RN’s) delivering care to the patients.
LIFE CHANGING!!!THERAVEN2026AD+
They are the first place my son has ever been to that has actually helped him. The Dr got him on the medicine he has needed for a long time . Thank all of you so very much
I think there should be more interaction with the patient like more counseling. Getting know more about the patient's feelings and emotions. The physical therapy was nice and mental therapy was good
I was at this facility for two weeks around September of 2014 due to drug abuse and a failed suicide attempt. The food was good, the patients I was with were mostly chill and the bedrooms were okay (except the… bathrooms; not only do they not have shower curtains, but I had to use the restroom one night and found a feces-covered towel behind the toilet). However, when it comes to this facility's doctors and nurses, they weren't really that helpful; in fact you only have a five-minute session every morning and that was that. Nurse Leslie (I don’t know if she still works there as of making out this review, but) not only did she snatch away a paper that I had written some notes down to use for my meeting with my parents like she didn’t want them to know what goes on within the facility's walls, but for sending me to the now-demolished Palmetto Pee Dee Behavioral Health Center in Florence for 90 days, and lying to my mother that “it is a wonderful place; it's kind of like a small college; I think he’ll like it.”
I learned that I was Important there, that I mattered. Just connect with each other and have fun with them, even through the pain, it really will help. About 98 percent of the staff was amazing. But I'm not naming names… openly.
Over all better than most places, disappointed reach out Head Doctor several times left messages never got a call or response.
I went here when I was 14 and felt sooo much better when I got out, it's much better than what I was expecting
They shot me up with Thorazine. I passed out and they threw in an empty room with a bunch of mattresses. Not lying me down. Just hunched over a group of mattresses. Did it 4 times. The state hospitals are better. Never… again.
I went in feeling really horrible and in a bad way. I came out with a new perspective and have returned to my old self again. I appreciate everyone there and am so much better now. All the techs and nurses were great… and treated me with the upmost care. I don’t want to single anyone, but Pam and Kristie were super nice and Ms. Annie’s groups were fantastic!! Love that lady. Dustin was also great and truly cared for our well being. I realize I singled a few out, but those are really the names I remember. Thank you and it may not be for everyone, but was good for me.
Staff was extremely helpful and caring. Food was good.
I was here from February 8th to the 16th for detox. They treated everyone there with the most respect and dignity ever. Every nurse and tech did what ever they could to make sure your sobriety and stay was safe and… pleasant. I hated to be there for the reason I was but I would not have wanted to be anywhere else. Mary RN was amazing!!!
To be honest & upfront, I was terrified when my grandson was sent there. He stayed a week. I did read through the reviews and was horrified at some of them. Under the curriumstances, I was quiet surprised. I have… nothing but good things to say about the facility. He was able to call home twice a day. His mother and I could call any time before 9 p.m. The Dr's. & nurses kept her up to date on him daily and answered any questions she had. His needs were meet. Once he got home, he said his favorite nurses were Mrs. Nikki & Charleace (hope that spelling is correct). And he loved the 🥕 cake!!! Thank you all for taking care of him. And please thank his nurses too. Have a blessed day❤️
I went here when I was 10, Horrible experience. Some girl tried hanging herself with a pair of leggings, Food was horrible, No privacy, Also when I was first being admitted they had Me stripped into a bra and underwear… and they checked my bra and underwear while they were still on me.
