I did a personal intake for counseling/therapy and to track my sobriety progress in September 2025. I wasn’t seen until the end of October 2025. My new “counselor”, Jewell Smith, put in no effort to make the initial… appointment until I came in person. After that initial appointment, every week was another excuse/ disappointment. (Week 2) We scheduled to meet on Friday, she called me Thursday say she wasn’t going to be there. (Week 3) The following week, I was running 10 minutes late and called in about it, she said I can still come in. When I got there, Liberation Programs lockdown and closed an hour early. (Week 4) It’s the end of November and I haven’t had proper counseling. I asked Jewell Smith to change the schedule for once a month visits or ending services because clearly it wasn’t working out between us, her and supervisor denied my request, scheduling therapy twice a week. (Week 6) It’s December and I’ve moved out the state. Jewell Smith checked up on me, giving insight on my drug tests and we talked about my future plans. (Week 7) She took a vacation. (Week 9) She called for another checkup on Christmas Eve and emails me outpatient treatment providers. (Week 10) I asked for a discharge letter so I can seek therapy/counseling and treatment in NY. She said she will get back to me on Friday, January 2nd, 2026 after speaking with her supervisor. What a way to end the year…

At the age of 21 I was lost and hopeless. Ran with the wrong crowd and had a substance abuse problem. Liberation House was the turning point for me. I entered in the spring of 1974 and graduated in 1976 with a baby girl… (a first at Lib House 9/10/1974). I was given the opportunity to completed my education, got a GED, and went on to National Academy of hairdressing. I’m still in touch with a few of my comrades. I’ve gone n to have a successful life, one day at a time.
