HUSKY Health is Connecticut’s Medicaid program, run by the Connecticut Department of Social Services without managed care companies since January 1, 2012. The state pays claims itself and hires administrators: Community Health Network of Connecticut for medical benefits, and Carelon Behavioral Health CT, contractor to the Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership since 2006, for mental health and substance use care.

Yes. Since June 1, 2022, all four HUSKY groups have paid for freestanding residential treatment programs from ASAM 3.1 through 3.7, a pregnant and parenting women program included; coverage starts at 13, but no adolescent residential provider is enrolled now. Yes. Residential substance use treatment has needed prior authorization from the behavioral health administrator since July 1, 2022, and each admission must rest on a multidimensional psychosocial assessment. Does HUSKY Health Cover Detox in Connecticut?

Yes. HUSKY Health covers withdrawal management and detox at every level Connecticut’s waiver lists, from ambulatory detoxification at 1-WM and 2-WM through clinically managed residential withdrawal management at 3.2 and medically monitored 3.7-WM to inpatient 4-WM care. Members of HUSKY A, C and D can also book rides to behavioral health appointments through MTM, the program’s transportation vendor.

Does HUSKY Health Cover Outpatient Rehab in Connecticut?

Yes. HUSKY Health covers outpatient addiction counseling at ASAM levels 0.5 to 2.5, including diagnostic evaluation, individual, group and family counseling, partial hospitalization and Medicaid intensive outpatient programs. Does HUSKY Health Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. HUSKY Health pays for methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone to treat opioid use disorder, with counseling, under a state plan benefit in place since October 1, 2020. The Department of Social Services runs medication assisted treatment coverage through its own pharmacy benefit, and drugs off its Preferred Drug List go to Gainwell Technologies for prior authorization.

Does HUSKY Health cover Suboxone?

Yes. HUSKY D adults face work rules and six-month renewals from January 1, 2027, and retroactive coverage shrinks to one month before the application.
