This was a safe place for my adult child in terms that they kept her in the home but that was it. Inept and under qualified therapists and high turnover of staff definitely negates the $10k we spent on this place
When i stayed at newport i was 16 and was there for two months. In those two months I learned what normal is supposed to be like. No one ever raises their voice, I got to workout every day, eat good food prepared by a… nutritionist, and live in a multi million dollar home but even those weren’t the best parts. The CC’s (people who watched us) really care about what you’re going through and do their best to help even though it’s not their job. My favorite CC Adam is the reason i stopped cutting myself. The therapists are the best i’ve had despite how many i’ve met and taught me to trust people and be happy again (along with the CC’s). The other patients were some of the sweetest people i’ve had the pleasure of meeting, and can actually understand what you’re feeling because they are as well. I’m 18 now and my stay at newport is still one of the highlights of my life if you’re thinking about a residential mental health facility they are an amazing choice.
1. My experience with the clinal team was great. Always answers any question I had. Also made the process stress free. 2. My relationship with my family has gotten better. We have struggled with communicating towards… each other and it’s still a work in progress but in the right direction of healing. 3. My support community is filed with friends and family willing to help us get through all of this. 4. I would tell them don’t give up. Days won’t always be easy, but if we work together we can accomplish so much. This program does exactly what they say you do. Make sure you do the work that’s the only way the program will be successful for you and your family. Never be afraid to ask for help. The team is there to support you.
Wouldn’t recommend this facility their staff selection is seriously not equipped to handle others in a time of need. Or shall I say they are not professionals as much as it cost you would think they have everything… together on their end . THEY DO NOT HELP WITH SOBRIETY PLEASE DON’T GO HERE IF YOU NEED TRUE HELP.
Staff were unhelpful, the supervisor Karin gave me a wicked smile after I tried to cancel discharge so I could get meds for my hallucinations, the rooms were dusty which made me itch because I had eczema, and it took… forever for them to get Vaseline for me there while my skin was flaking, the staff were not friendly giving me the support I needed when clients isolated me from them. One of the staff members there didn’t provide me a grievance form because “it’s bedtime and you need to sleep”
Newport Academy has been an amazing asset to our family’s tool chest. Having a son with extreme ADHD, Autism, gender dysphoria, etc., Newport was recommended by our son’s Dr. and saved us at a very difficult time in our… lives. Our son stayed at Shingle Springs, CA where we had professional and caring staff that went above and beyond to support our family. After 9-weeks it was determined our son needed a higher level of care and Newport helped us to find the right facility that could help our son further and did the leg work to ensure our insurance was accepted and transportation was seamless. Special shout out to Reanna, Ben, and Laurel whose professionalism and kindness got us through a very difficult time. The family and group therapy sessions have been instrumental to our healing. The Newport app and therapy sessions are available to us indefinitely as alumni’s. We still attend the weekly LGBTQ sessions lead by Reanna, who leads us through discussions that heal the soul well beyond LGBTQ topics. We were blessed to have been referred to Newport!
Was fun while I was there I believe it was all stuff I knew from my first stay but the staff are awesome and I think the areas great.
When I admitted my son at Newport he was in a really bad place. I was so worried about him and I didn’t want him to have to be away from his family and friends but I knew he needed inpatient help. It took me a while to… see that this place was the best thing I could have ever hoped for him. I’m so incredibly thankful for the help my son received here. There were many times my son asked to come home but he will be coming home tomorrow and when I spoke to him on the phone today he mentioned that he’s happy to be coming home but he will really miss Newport and the people that helped him. My son for the first time in years seems genuinely happy and that is worth more to me than anything in this world! I highly recommend Newport Academy!
Been here twice it’s so good like the staff is sooooo nice and all the therapy is helpful I didn’t think it would be at first but it really was but if your thinking about going to Newport definitely go cause it’s like… such a good place and the equine therapy was always my favorite but ya you should definitely go to Newport shingle springs.
Amazing staff!!! Really helped me a lot. Helped my anxiety and OCD. Great place to stay. The staff really cared and the outings were fun. A little tough to be away from home. Fun things to do. A little home away from… home. 👪
Our son was at Newport Academy for approximately 45 days for treatment for substance use disorder. On the third day, they lost him; he climbed out the window in his room and was at large for approximately 36 hours,… during which time he used drugs. The bio-psycho-social report we filled out before he arrived emphasized that he was a flight risk and specified that he often climbed out the window, but no one on staff read it. Newport did not provide us with the post-discharge treatment plan they repeatedly promised. The list of counselors they provided included disconnected numbers, counselors practicing in different states, and a counselor we had seen before and specifically said we did not want to work with again. Ultimately, the list included no names of viable counselors. Newport discharged our son with approximately 24 hours notice, citing a dispute with our insurance company. They declined to participate in the reconsideration process with the insurance company that might have made it possible for him to continue care. The abrupt discharge forced us to travel to California on one day’s notice. Our son began using drugs again roughly two weeks after he returned. I would say that Newport didn’t do him any good, but the fact is he had two weeks of sobriety at the hospital before he went in, and he used drugs during his stay at the facility as a result of the staff’s negligence. Newport did him harm. His enrollment in the program damaged our relationship and did nothing to address his drug problem. Newport is an incompetent facility that did not deliver on its promises, and I urge any parent whose child is struggling with addiction to look elsewhere.
