The entire time I was faking feeling okay to get out of there. I came out of Riverview worse than before except I don’t want to harm myself anymore because I’m literally traumatized that I will wake up and be sent back.… Techs literally tell you about them hating their job, let kids pick on others and actually ag them on. If you ask for any water or food you are treated like a chore, which is insane that you’re treating people who are mentally ill this way. You get NO therapy. My therapist spoke to me for 2 minutes every morning to ask if my medicine was working. (It takes weeks to see progress) you are only allowed a thin blanket at night and it’s freezing. Don’t you dare ask for another one. There was a kid who was actively threatening another child and fighting the staff but they let her out the same day just to get rid of her. Another girl attempted suicide the night before and they still didn’t put her on 1 on 1 knowing she suffers voices telling her to harm herself. I had friends call 16 times to even get a chance to speak to me and the phone calls are 5 minutes long (5 min in total if you wanna call multiple people.) they literally just put you on a bunch of meds and hope for the best. The nurses were actually very sweet, kudos to them especially Mrs Kim!!!!! Please never send your child here, a lot of kids with me bragged on Brentwood so I’d try that out if anything.

I have mixed feelings about Riverview Behavioral Hospital. There were some positives, but also some concerning issues during my stay. One thing I appreciated was that I was allowed to keep the drawstring in my pants,… which made me much more comfortable and prevented my pants from constantly falling down. However, there were several problems. A medication bottle that I brought with me was lost during my stay. I was also given a medication that had previously been discontinued for me and that I was not supposed to be taking. In addition, when I was trying to untangle a phone cord, a staff member named Chaz pulled on my shirt, which I felt was inappropriate and unprofessional. My experience was not entirely negative, but the medication-related issues and my interaction with staff left me with concerns about patient care and attention to detail.

First of off not only am I an EMT who has transferred many adolescents to this facility, but in the last week my own child was sent here. He was admitted on a Wednesday afternoon, admission was absolutely wonderful and… easy , what I wasn't pleased with was the fact my child was being treated via phone from the psychiatrist who never laid eyes or evaluated my son. He ended up wearing dirty clothes days in a row even after asking them to please wash them. He suffered numerous anxiety attacks and they kept wanting to give him something that I stressed to them would not work for him. My son is very honest and let me know about a nurse who encouraged fights. I do give 10 stars to two of the most wonderful nurses Jennifer and John who was the most compassionate people. The teacher on the other hand was not so very nice ,and the therapist who called me was nice until I let her know I was taking my son AMA, If you love your children please do your research on each facility before you send them. Its an even weight between positive and negative. I believe this facility has the potential to be a wonderful place if they would get rid of some of the bad apples! From the front desk to some of the nurses and techs.

This place wasn't that bad but low-key I didn't like it because all you did was watch movies and be forced to do stuff you don't want to. They didn't even enforce rules and kids cussed and bit their skin off while I was… there. This one kid literally had highly inappropriate interactions twice while I was there. The techs don't watch over you they just sit in the glass room and listen to music and stuff. They don't ever check for self harm or anything and they give access to salt and ice which you can use to self harm. Over all, there were some upsides to it but I don't think they were the best.

I was here for about 2 weeks at best and if im being honest it was fun and not at the same time I really love the teacher for the young kids I think her name was sandy or something I dont know but she was really kind… and trustworthy. This place doesn't have the best food which is hard since they keep track of how you eat but how am I supposed to eat if its nasty? And dont get me started on some of the staff some were very fun and some were very strict but in the end they are just doing their job. I made new friends and I really wish I was in contact with them but im not sadly. I was discharged two months ago I think and if im being honest it didnt really help but at least I got medication for my sleeping problems and depression and anxiety

They don't even deserve a star. Absolutely a horrible place to send a child with mental issues. My step daughter was there for 21 days! We never spoke to a doctor only discharge nurses. Left messages for updates and was… never called! When we called the staff answering the phone were always yelling at the kids they were out of control in the back ground we heard cussing & screaming. Staff was very non responsive and she said they colored and watched tv all day. They did not help her she has been there 2x. The first time she was under someone else's custody and we didn't realize it was the same place. Please do your research and find a better facility! She was there for 21 days with no explanation why they was keeping her past the 10 days they said. The bill was $39,088 for 21 days and that $1861 a day wth and they did nothing. Pretty expensive babysitter 😡 Again we never spoke to a doctor a therapist a psychiatrist a psychologist no one the whole time she was there!!!! Insane how this place is still open.

They assumed I was faking because someone I didn't know was there was there then kept me in the common room wasn't allowed too do anything but walk around the place we are in when we are waiting too do something else… would sue if I could I was called a faker when everything I had was real DO NOT SEND PEOPLE HERE the second they can keep u in somewhere they will it don't help it just made me worse. They mix boys and girls which I say is highly inporapite because some girls get triggered by boys and some boys get triggered by girls

Do not take yourself or your child to this facility. They are rude and will not let you call in and speak to your child or sibling if and when you call in. they will not call and update you with any information on the… family member in the facility.

My person was admitted on a Wednesday and was not evaluated (per staff and patient) for a week at which point I took them out ama. What a joke of a place. How do you leave ama when there was no medical evaluation. And… I’m still paying the bill.

I am 25 years old now, but when I was 17 | stayed at this facility involuntarily and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. I was only with the girls, and they were sexually harassing me the entire time,… including my roommate after lights out, which has had lasting effects on me. We never went outside once. I only talked to a psychiatrist maybe one time, and I don't remember receiving any actual help. There was a parent-counselor intervention where I just felt attacked the whole time. I did not feel supported at all. It was really rough and it did not make me feel better. Even after all this time, what happened at Riverview still affects me.

A terrible experience. My daughter didn't recover; she came out even more upset, saying that teenagers here have sex with each other during recess and that there were cockroaches and mice. Then they sent us to Andrews… Center in Minola, and when we arrived, they yelled insults at us. I didn't think they'd make us worse here, or worse, they demand payment upfront.

Needed help for a loved one and they wasted three hours of our time knowing we were just visiting and trying to get help for a loved one. They never told us they don’t take our insurance and when I called about it they… didn’t seem to care at all. Avoid this place at all cost

As a medical professional, I must say that this is one of the better places to go for psychiatric needs. The staff for the most part is amazing. One bad apple can ruin the whole bunch unfortunately. Management is great… and things are addressed promptly. I know they recently got a few new safety and security features and there has been talk of revamping the building. Patient safety and quality care comes first.

I’ve been in several IP facilities from Tyler, TX to Webster Groves, MO, & this was the best staff I have ever had. The techs were caring, & would listen. They’d have casual conversations when times were slow! Nesha,… Mimi, Rachel (who was also a great nurse), & above ALL else Breunna seemed to really care about us. There’s more than just them, too! The nurses actually seemed to want to better us. Melinda was very educated & taught me something about myself. The newest nurse, Kimberly, was tremendous! Believe or not… the food was actually really yummy! More protein & fibre/veg would be great, but I get it. A medium-sized tasty is better than an XL nasty. My biggest gripes: - Dr. Bella He’s apparently infamous around the facility 👀🫠 As someone who has been seeing every specialist under the sun… this man is a menace lol. Absolutely the rudest doctor I’ve ever encountered. An actual conversation on my second day: Bella: are you depressed? Me: believe it or not, no! I love my life, my family, & my job. I do get overwhelmed, but I’m never really depressed in like, a decade!! :) Bella: so I’m going to put you on something for depression. Me: ok… but respectfully, may I ask why? Bella: because you’re depressed. Me: …I don’t want to be obstinate but I’m… really not depressed. Anxious? Tightly-wound? High-strung? Yes, haha!! :D But I love my life & I don’t want to be on antidepressants! Bella: well, you’re depressed. Have you ever been on Zoloft? Me: oh, gosh, yes.. I’ve been on all the anti-depressants & more & Zoloft is the worst! Bella: what about lexapro? Me: yes, sir. & Effexor, & prozac, & lexapro, & even lamictal, paxil— Bella: have you taken Wellbutrin? Me: yes, sir. The last psych meds I was on was actually Prozac & Wellbutrin for— Bella: have you been on remeron? Me: no, sir?? Bella: *talking to nurse* start her on xx milligrams of remeron… Me: & what is this for again? Bella: depression. Me: ………ok. I mean, I don’t want to come across as unwilling to cooperate.. Bella: *suddenly & awkwardly ends session* You’re scared to have a real conversation with anyone, ESPECIALLY the doctor who has your fate in his hands. But… The med worked! Ha! HOWEVER! When it was day 5 of my stay, I asked when a possible date might be for my discharge. He told me he would “talk to my social worker”. Who’s that? I know everyone… who’s this mysterious social worker?? The next day, I met with him. “All’s well!” I exclaimed. As i I had been reporting. “I’m wondering if leaving this evening instead of tomorrow morning [which would be day 8] would be possible?” To which he answered: “let me talk with your social worker & see.” What?! Again?!! Lo & behold, my “social worker” was anyone who doesn’t have their MD. Therapists, mostly. He, alone, had the power to discharge me. Not a fan of adults who lie. Yikes. Grow up. In short: he’s a doctor who prescribed me a med that worked after I told him “no” to like 6 other pills, he didn’t listen when I told him “I’m not depressed”, & it appears he’s not willing to accept accountability when a patient asks a direct question. 1/10 do not recommend NEXT GRIPE: - You do nothing there. If you’re lucky, you watch 4 movies in a day. Day 4, someone deigned to leave a deck of cards for us (since there are no books, pens, or notebooks in the unit, I was shocked but excited!!) So… I played solitaire about 2-4 hours a day. Yay! Finally something other than lying down or watching random movies. (In all fairness, I watched a few great ones!) I have been to facilities where— at minimum— there is group therapy a couple times a week. Unfortunately, we basically had a therapist on a Saturday telling us how we need to “start with you” to “be more organised” (I think? I don’t remember). ______ But… I’ve paid too many thousands of dollars for treatment that clearly didn’t work for my mental health in the past. However… I weirdly enjoyed this. Thank you, staff. I saw the craziest stuff & the most mentally unwell people of my life in the last 8 days. But I wouldn’t have done it anywhere else.
