Sheppard Pratt – Elkridge Detox and Rehab Services

Sheppard Pratt – Elkridge is listed as running residential treatment and partial hospitalization. The structured element runs during the day and people go home afterwards. Which of these is appropriate depends on an assessment, not on what sounds manageable at the time.

Co-occurring mental health conditions are addressed alongside substance use, which is the approach the evidence supports. Ask what a typical week involves before committing, since the schedule determines whether the program is workable alongside work or family.

I would give this facility 0 stars if I had the option. A family member of mine needed inpatient care for major depression. They had also recently sustained an ankle injury and needed to ice it regularly to reduce pain… as it healed. Two days passed and they were still not given ice due to Sheppard Pratt's "protocol," and when my family member reinjured themselves AT THE FACILITY, staff still refused to give them ice for their worsening injury. Basic, human physiological needs are the foremost tier of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, an essential foundation of psychological framework and overall wellness. How can you expect someone to heal and recover from a mental health crisis when their basic needs are not met? I'm baffled by these "mental health professionals," my family member is in a worse condition than they were when they first arrived. Avoid this place at all costs and please report them to the health department.

This place has no business being operational. Your family goes to this facility and doesn't get the help they need. Your just money to them. If your loved one needs help..do not go here. Staff do not return calls nor do… they value input which is critical for a recovery

(Jan 2026) Some Places Don't Just Treat You. They See You. Sheppard Pratt In Elkridge Was One Of Those Places For Me. I Walked In Carrying Weight I Didn't Have Words For, And From The Very Beginning, I Was Met With… Patience Instead Of Pressure And Kindness Instead Of Judgment. James, An RN, And Ben, A Mental Health Worker, Were The First To Welcome Me. During A Time When Everything Felt Uncertain, They Kept Me Grounded And Made Me Feel Human First, Patient Second. That Mattered More Than They May Ever Know. During Intake, I Met Toyin, An RN And Honestly My Guardian Angel In There. Her Presence Carried Calm, Wisdom, And Strength. She Made Space For Emotion, Even From Someone Who Usually Keeps It Locked Away. I'll Never Forget Her Telling Me To Remember "The African Lady Voice In Your Head." That's Something I'll Carry With Me Forever. On The Unit, I Met Some Amazing Mental Health Workers. Mink Brought Genuine Energy, We Bonded Over Music Amongst Shared Understanding Along With Real Conversation. Brandon Brought Laughter, Faith, And Encouragement Which Reminded Me That Humor And Belief Can Coexist With Healing, Before He Left One Of His Shifts, I Made Sure To Dap Him Up Out Of Respect. Stephanie Was Incredibly Sweet. The Smiles, Jokes, And Double Peace Signs Were Small Reminders That Joy Can Still Exist Even In Difficult Spaces. And Then Last But Most Definitely Not Least There Was Erica, A True Mother Figure To The Entire Unit. Loving, Attentive, Firm When Needed, And Unwavering In Her Care. She Stood On Business While Making Every Patient Feel Like They Mattered. Our Heart-To-Heart Conversation Before My Discharge Is Something I'll Never Forget. She'll Always Have A Special Place In My Heart. The Facility Itself Is Beautiful, Modern, Clean, Peaceful, And Truly Feels Designed For Healing. The Food Was Great Too. If I Had Any Suggestions, It Would Simply Be Longer And Thicker Blankets, Fitted Sheets, Regular-Sized Toothbrushes, And Better Deodorant Options For Patients. Leaving Sheppard Pratt Was Harder Than I Expected. Not Because I Wasn't Ready To Move Forward But Because I Was Leaving Behind People Who Truly Cared. Every Staff Member I Encountered Treated Me With Kindness, Patience, And Respect During One Of The Most Vulnerable Chapters Of My Life. I Will Always Be Grateful For The Experience. I Will Always Remember The People, Even The Staff I Didn't Mention By Name. Thank Y'All For Everything. Love Y'All. — GeHazel Muse

Ik people have stigmas and valid fears about coming to places like these but 98% of the staff genuinely are caring good people. I have severe ptsd, there were moments where I didn’t feel safe due to other patients but… the staff did the best they could to help everyone feel at ease during those moments. It isn’t easy for them and obviously it’s incredibly rough for anyone staying there. I wasn’t so bothered staying there for personal reasons. It’s not a hotel but it’s as close as you’ll get to one for a hospital/urgent care that also deals with a variety of mental problems as well as physical. Their day programs help keep people stay on a good track after the fact and the overnight stays only last about a week which is fair. I enjoyed watching all the animals out the window as well as the opportunities I had to exercise. Every place has flaws as budget costs are a real thing but again, very few complaints it’s only other patients behavior you have to be understanding and a bit forgiving of… as long as they don’t hurt the staff or other patients. I don’t like to see that but I know discipline is a common struggle and everyone has their own battles. That being said I hope people come here to get the help they desperately need. It shouldn’t matter that security cameras are on 24/7 since that’s to help reinforce good behavior and keep the staff alert of anything potentially dangerous which I like. Plus they have three cute little ground hogs, a healthy looking kitty, deer, bugs and plenty of deer to watch outside of the windows. I do hope that everyone has a nice day and is able to find inner peace as that is a marathon, not a sprint and marathons can require training (I like metaphors). In a perfect world no one would suffer but suffering can push us to grow. Self care is important for self love and once you love yourself so you can be the best version of yourself as to not accidentally hurt the feelings of those you love. We all struggle in our own ways and it is easier said than done but if you truly want something you must work hard for it, even small things take innovative. I feel very grateful for a lot in this world and my life.

This facility claims to serve underserved populations with grace. This is a lie. My friend was "categorically denied" at this location due to their seizure disorder. Before even reaching intake, a blonde nurse came to… tell us that they "can't provide care to someone who has had a seizure in the past 6 months". The problem with this is that my friend has medication resistant epilepsy. Meaning such a requirement is near impossible to meet. Apparently adequate mental healthcare, trauma therapy, and physical safety are only afforded to able bodied people. Imagine undergoing one of the most traumatic eventz of your life and being told your disability is the reason you can't receive care. Shame on this disgraceful, discriminatory facility.

do not recommend this location. coastal unit. i find the name mental health worker ironic they don't receive any training in mental health. i was bullied, belittled, verbally abused, mocked by staff. i cried staff sat… there and laughed. cam male mhw on coastal told me to shut up and go in my room. i was called annoying by zion. i was provoked by emanuel. not the place for autistic people in which the staff have zero understanding in i did not feel accepted here by the staff lack of decorations due to "fire hazard" the towson location has many decorations no fires there is a lack of choice of music. music gives people a choice which we don't get a lot of while in the hospital. the towson location does a music therapy where each person chooses a song. towson location also offers a one on one music therapy which i found very helpful towson location has more food accommodations towson has more crafts to do in our free time

this place was absolutely horrible i went there twice, the first time i went was my first time ever going to a inpatient facility in 2022 and it did not help, it was two months after the first intake that i went back. i… was a 13 year old girl with extreme confusion of what was wrong with me and coming to terms with my ptsd. the amount of incompetence from the staff members and blatant disrespect and disregard for the safety of the patients was outstanding it was like you guys picked up random people off the street and gave them a job there!! disgraceful. out of the many inpatient places i have been to this one stands out in the worst ways possible. the female psychiatrist told me, a 13 year old girl who had just tried to end her life that “i did not look depressed” because i was socializing with other patients and smiling. (i had been there for a month so i was just adjusted to the environment trying to make the best out of it) and the staff members let the ALL of the other patients sit in a room alone with NO staff members monitoring or in the room yelling at me and my friend in there because we were “laughing too loud” and “being disrespectful” while me and my friend were there to get help for our rapidly declining mental health. and the entire unit ganging up on us and the staff seeing the entire thing happening and LETTING it happen was so disgusting. i don’t remember much else other than it being a nightmare and i blocked out most of the memories because it was so traumatic. and the second time i went it was not my choice to go back to that location and i tried to avoid it but i had to because there was no nearby open beds in any other facilities. but the second time i went i had a different psychiatrist which both of them were extremely unprofessional no new knowledge to me i heard all about this guy from other patients my first time there, but i gave him a shot because of how horrible the other one was i thought he couldn’t be that bad (he was). he compared me to an apple and a car engine with my medication and completely overdosed me with my first dose of a new medication being 250mg of seroquel! a 115 lbs 13 year old girl with a starting dose of 250 mg of seroquel by the way, they did not mention to my mother what the dosage was going to be otherwise she would’ve refused. the entire 3 weeks i was there for that time i was placed on a medication for about half a week then taken off cold turkey and put on a new one and process starts again. crazy right? the second time i was there i had more trouble with staff rather than patients the unprofessional behaviors in that unit are absolutely disgusting and it should be shut down. as soon as possible that place is absolutely horrible and i would not suggest it for someone who is looking for help and somewhere you feel safe and understood. every night there was a nightmare living and i would rather die than ever go back to that wretched place. if i could give this place 0 stars i 100% would but, sadly, i cannot. so a 1 you get. there’s a special place in hell for the staff members there. specifically ms benedicta, both and the psychiatrists there. it’s been a long time since i was there so i really hope they were fired.

Hands down the worst place to leave a loved one with this tragic disorder. It is a holding yard for parents at their wits end and offers no therapy. All that happens here is the girls get together and trade secrets on… how to hide their eating disorder. My daughter is an adult now with children of her own. We talk about how this place did zero for her other than finding ways to hide her disorder better. Run, I mean run, from this place.

I think we all fear psychiatric wards or the stigma that comes with them, which i’ve been to about 5 in the DMV. A very heartfelt thank you to Sheppard Pratt, Harbor unit in Elkridge. And a special shout out to those… who made me feel at home — Epiphany, Kim, Tanya Uche, Becky and Katrina. And to all those who helped me. Your kindness and care is noticed. 🫶🏽

At first I was very hesitant to make a review, however seeing these reviews I just know I have to speak up. I brought my daughter in last night to be evaluated after having a conversation with my family we all agreed… this would be the right thing to do. I explained to the social worker Caroline cohen all my concerns. After discovering something very significant about my daughter me and my older girls had to take turns watching her sleep I was to afraid to leave her alone. We had never been through this before so this was very hard for me. I literally cried to this woman because I was so heart broken.Giving this woman my reasoning for why my daughter really need this evaluation. And she totally disregarded my concerns with blank empty stares. It was very obvious she did not care and did not show any empathy or compassion whatsoever. After leaving very upset and the Socail worker trying to disrespect me with a have a nice day and a mean look on her face Me and my family went to our car. Five minutes after getting in the car that same Socail worker was leaving for the day. I believe the admission process took to much of her time so she just had to get us out of there. Health care is not a privilege it’s a Right. And this woman does not make decisions for my child when she clearly is incompetent to for the roll. Since then I had a conversation with a health care professional and they also agree that with the information that I shared they don’t see why she would choose to not admit my daughter.so even if it’s not from Sheppard Pratt my daughter will get the help that she needs and it will be a team of people behind my daughter. I’m actually embarrassed for her. And even if this woman does not get in trouble I realize this was not her first time doing this to someone it’s people out there who have a story on her because this kind of sick behavior is repetitive. And I will take all the appropriate steps in contacting who I need to so that I can make sure that my story is well documented. I’m sure others have also been mistreated by her. And if this is the record she wants we’ll let her have it.

EXTREMELY wicked, hateful, and bigoted company. I freind of mine is afraid of seeking medical care now because of the discrimination she suffered - being called an "it" by staff, mocked, ridiculed, and called "retard"… for being autistic after she started rocking back and forth from being overwhelmed by the abuse. And then they threatened to 51-50 her. This was AFTER Aamother patient got in her face and tried to fight her for being trans. The staff did NOTHI G. *DO NOT GO HERE, AND DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE IF YOU VALUE THEIR THEIR HEALTH.*

So I was admitted here around march 2024 and boy when I tell you I had an experience I mean an experience. I was 15 at the time and there was other teens there too met some cool people there. I definitely loved some of… the staff members I forgot some of there names but the names I do remember were miss caroline and miss tanya. Miss tanya if you see this thank you and thank you to you too miss caroline. I made friends with other teens here too I dont want to say any of their names but if yall are seeing this feel free to reach out if yall remember me I miss yall lol. but overall this place helped me get better when I had psychosis they gave me medication everyday and honestly the medication and treatment I got worked and definitely helped get rid of the psychosis I had. Now onto the bad things about this place. Whenever two teens would get into a physical altercation or fight the staff would just let it happen and not prevent them from fighting its like the staff wanted to see a fight. There was this 12 year old girl who got attacked by another female that was way older then her and the staff could've prevented it from happening they were watching the whole time but they didn't do anything they just let the 12 year old girl get attacked and after a good while of the girl fighting for her life now all of a sudden the staff wants to split it up. Not all the staff were like this but some would definitely do this immature shady stuff. I also got into a physical altercation with another teen here and the staff could have prevented the altercation from happening but they didn't. Overall this place isn't the worst because this place definitely helped me get my right mind back together when I was going through my psychosis so overall this place is a 3/5.

the staff here literally does nothing and they watch kids attack each other. this one girl she crashed out we had to go in a separate room and they let her throw things around for at least 30 minutes before actually… putting her in seclusion. staff members that actually seem to care are are .Casey and Mr.Sam they are the only 2 I can say good things about a long with other staff but these 2 are the only ones that actually cared about my feelings and listens and validated how I was feeling. the other staff members would literally watch while you cry not even do anything not that I care but for some other patients, they would want you to comfort them while their sad but no they just looked at you while you cried and didn't try to comfort you or ask what was wrong . this place ruined my mental health so bad

They helped me with coping… mechanisms and we did daily check ups to see how I felt. I understand everyone may not have a great experiences, but I definitely did.

SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN. I also wrote a review for the towson location but this place genuinely gave me PTSD. All of the nurses are genuinely mentally abusive to patients and I had many horrible experiences during a 5 day… hospitalization. DONT TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE UNLESS ITS A LAST RESORT, IT CAUSES MORE HARM THAN HELP. I HAVE NIGHTMARES AND FLASHBACKS DAILY. someone please shut it down.

My name is Reign Tucker and I was illegally taken from my home because my mom filed a court order while my father had no idea. The staff at this disgusting hospital did nothing to help me. The staff there told me that I… was on a 72 hour hold. THAT WAS NOT TRUE. In reality my hold hadn’t even started and I wasn’t aware of this till my social worker told me. I am not mentally ill. My mother abused me and this hospital destroyed my mental health. The staff there bulled children in the meadow unit on lady would argue with a 12 year old girl and another staff member even made a disgusting joke about a CHILD (15 year old girl) about her genitals “smelling” this is not okay. A girl there was bullied by staff members and even jumped by 6 kids at the meadow unit and the staff did nothing to stop it. They said they didn’t care when the girl also went on a rant saying she wanted to hurt herself. This is not how you treat mentally ill children. No matter how much they annoy you, this is your job. They stripped me and my underwear was taken. They do 15 minute checks on you day and night, I was extremely hot one night so I put on some pants and a sports bra and went to bed. I was woken up out my sleep after a staff member said I should cover up in case male staff members come see me. Mind you I was sleep and covered by blankets. I was scared for my life as they did not care when children started attacking each other. I even had a mental scare in that hospital. ( my hands turned orange and so did the soles of my feet) I asked multiple times to speak with a physical health consultant or a doctor yet I was ignored. They did not offer water to the children after kids would constantly throw water on the floor during breakdowns. This would mean I went an entire day without drinking water. It even got to the point that a tablet was “stolen” and all of our stuff was revenged and we were also threatened only for them to find out they miscounted the tablets. PLEASE DONT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE. They do not care for your kids, they bully them and make fun of them and will not care when your children are in danger. I’m making this post to protect other kids and parents from exploitation and experiencing this manipulation and abuse. They will place random diagnoses on your kids and medicate them to make money. They even drugged me with Tylenol because I told them I felt unsafe there. Mind you I felt unsafe because of the constant fighting and screaming . Yet they put me on meds.. I will continue to share my story and fight for justice for what I went through and I will fight for other kids aswell that are still trapped in this wretched place.

I was admitted to Sheppard Pratt Elkridge a lot of times same as for Sheppard Pratt Towson and other places too within the years or so even though I have been in facilities and hospitals and you name it over 100 times… and all of the times (and I’ve also never gotten help for any of my issues by the way) and I’ve been admitted to places for suicidal thoughts and etc it was horrible for me and I wasn’t treated right at all, and whenever I was admitted to Sheppard Pratt Elkridge the staff and the doctors and the social workers were horrible and they didn’t see anything wrong with me and they thought I was crazy in the brain and they didn’t give me any rights to call patient advocate or anything whenever I was having a issue and the clients/patients there were very disrespectful and very disgusting and very rude same as for the staff too and the patients were pressuring me to do horrible things that I didn’t want to even do like become their friend and etc and the roommates I had literally cussed me out and etc and I didn’t stay at Sheppard Pratt Towson for long at all and I didn’t get the right help there because they told me you can’t stay here for long and you have to leave and stupid stuff and I have short term memory loss disability due to getting molested by my cousin at 9 years old and I have autism and other disabilities too and Sheppard Pratt Elkridge and no placement or facility or anything has never helped me ever. Do not go to Sheppard Pratt Elkridge and Sheppard Pratt Towson or any other facility or placement because they will do you dirty and wrong!! And I broke my left wrist in spring grove a couple of years ago when someone of one of the staff members and me were having a argument and the staff member out of anger and out of nowhere slammed my room door into my left wrist on purpose and I had to go to John Hopkins Hospital to get surgery for it too and it went wrong of the surgery that left my left wrist and my body not being able to do things like carry things and etc. and I suggest you all don’t go to John Hopkins Hospital and Spring Grove and these places I mentioned because they will do you dirty and horribly! And Sheppard Pratt I suggest you don’t reply to this or else I will do you dirty as payback thanks

Most of the kids were nice, besides some. One of them tried to get into our room, so we (me and my roommate) had to hold the door shut so he couldn’t get in. Sometime before or after (I can’t remember) the same kid… hopped onto my back and sexually harassed me. At this time I had to put bands in my braces. They lost them. And my parents brought in a sort of notebook for me. And they never told me about it. My parents called me and I had to tell my parents to tell them to get my clothes, because I was still wearing my hospital gown (I believe it’s called). Besides all of that, they have amazing food. I am better and okay now. (I am 14 by the way)

Everyone was so nice and helpful. Ericka and Drea made me feel comfortable and cared for, I wouldn’t have had the same experience without them. Everything was clean, organized, and I received amazing care from each… nurse that helped me. This week was healing and helpful because of the staff and I will always appreciate them
