Rehabs That Take Mail Handlers Benefit Plan

Mail Handlers Benefit Plan (MHBP) is a health plan offered to federal employees and retirees through the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. MHBP plans can cover drug and alcohol treatment, with benefits that vary by plan option, network and level of care.

Treatment centers in Utah and Washington listed here name Mail Handlers Benefit Plan on their own websites. Residential and inpatient treatment often need prior approval, and costs differ between in-network and out-of-network providers. Before admission, contact the facility and MHBP to check benefits, network status, any authorization or referral and your share of the cost.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does Mail Handlers Benefit Plan cover rehab?

Yes, all three MHBP options (Standard Option, Value Plan and Consumer Option) cover substance use disorder and mental health treatment, including inpatient admissions, residential treatment center stays and partial hospitalization. Those levels of care need precertification, and what you pay depends on the option you hold and whether the facility is in network.

Benefits are administered by Aetna under MHBP's own brochure rules. Standard Option and Value Plan members call 1-800-410-7778 to check benefits before admission.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does Mail Handlers Benefit Plan cover residential treatment?

Yes, with precertification. A residential treatment center must be accredited by a nationally recognized organization, licensed by the state and provide 24-hour evaluation and treatment under the active direction of a licensed physician. Network inpatient cost sharing in 2026 is $200 per admission plus 10% coinsurance on Standard Option.

Value Plan charges 20% coinsurance and Consumer Option charges $75 a day up to $750 per admission, each after the plan deductible.

Residential Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/programs/residential/
Does Mail Handlers Benefit Plan need prior authorization for rehab?

Yes. Inpatient admissions, residential treatment center admissions and partial hospitalization programs all need prior authorization, as do transcranial magnetic stimulation and applied behavior analysis. A non-network inpatient stay has benefits reduced by $500 when no one calls, and no inpatient benefits are paid if the stay is judged not medically necessary.

For an emergency admission, call within two business days following the day of admission, even after discharge. Non-urgent decisions arrive within 15 days, urgent ones within 72 hours.

The Mail Handlers Benefit Plan, branded as MHBP, is a nationwide fee-for-service health plan with a PPO network, sold only to federal and Postal Service employees, annuitants and their families. The National Postal Mail Handlers Union sponsors it under contract CS1146 with the US Office of Personnel Management, First Health Life & Health Insurance Company underwrites it, and Claims Administration Corp administers it; both are Aetna subsidiaries.

That ownership decides how addiction treatment works in practice. The card says MHBP, the network is Aetna Choice POS II, the pharmacy side runs through CVS Caremark, and precertification is handled under MHBP’s own brochure rules rather than Aetna’s standard behavioral health list. Since January 1, 2025, postal employees and annuitants enroll through the Postal Service Health Benefits Program instead of the FEHB plan, so the brochure and the phone number differ between a federal enrollee and a postal one.

This guide covers what the three MHBP options pay for across detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization and outpatient care, which admissions need prior approval and what happens without it, the 2026 deductibles and copays by option, how addiction medication is covered, and how to work out whether a program sits in the network before admission.
