DUI and DWI Programs in New York

A DWI or DUI arrest in New York can lead to a court order for an alcohol and drug screening or a formal assessment. That assessment may then lead to treatment. The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) authorizes the screening and assessment providers. Courts and the Department of Motor Vehicles decide what a person must finish.

The listings here draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details supplied by the providers themselves. New York programs that take referrals after impaired driving lean urban, at 53%. Hempstead, Hicksville, Syracuse and Watertown appear most often among the places listed.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions about DUI and DWI Programs

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are DUI programs in New York?

Clusters of DUI and DWI program listings in New York form in Hempstead, Hicksville, Syracuse, Watertown and Brooklyn Heights, in that order. Brooklyn, Brentwood and New York City are larger cities close to those clusters, so drivers living in or near them may have a shorter trip to intake.

Rehab Centers in Hempsteadhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/new-york/hempstead-ny/
Do DUI and DWI programs in New York accept Medicaid?

Members ordered to complete screening or treatment can look for New York Medicaid billing, since nearly all of the DUI and DWI programs in New York record accepting it.

Coverage runs through the managed care plan a member is enrolled in, such as Fidelis Care, Healthfirst PHSP or MetroPlus Health Plan, and those plans also run Health and Recovery Plans. Admissions staff can confirm which plans a program works with.

Rehab Centers in New York That Accept NY Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/new-york/new-york-medicaid/
Are there DUI programs near a river in New York?

A median of about 6.8 miles separates a listed facility from the nearest river, and nearly all of the DUI and DWI programs in New York lie within 25 miles of one.

The most-named rivers near these programs are the Harlem River, Bronx River and Hutchinson River. For people attending regular outpatient sessions, the daily commute matters more than a river nearby.

Rehab Centers Near Rivershttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/rivers/

What DUI or DWI program does New York require, and who oversees it?

New York requires impaired driver screening and assessment rather than one course for everyone, and the state Office of Addiction Services and Supports oversees it. Under Vehicle and Traffic Law Section 1198-a and Mental Hygiene Law Section 19.07(g), a court may order a screening or a formal assessment from a provider that the office authorizes.

The office also sets the Standards for Clinical Services for Impaired Driving, which providers follow. Whether a judge orders a short screening or a full assessment depends on the charge, the blood alcohol level and any prior convictions, so the step is not automatic.

Education, assessment and treatment are three different things in New York. An education class teaches about impaired driving, an assessment is a clinical evaluation, and treatment is care from a program with a state operating certificate, following Part 822 rules for outpatient care and Part 820 rules for residential care.
