I went to La Jolla recovery from August to December of 2025. I had been to 4 rehabs before this one, and not a single one had ever helped me get my addiction under control. It’s about a year later now and I can proudly… say I’ve been sober ever since I went there. The location is absolutely perfect, the counselors and employees are knowledgeable and extremely helpful, and the community there was better than any of the other rehabs I went to. The only reason they lose a star is because they started charging my lab work to my out of pocket card instead of billing it through my insurance, causing me to suddenly owe over 100,000$ in the middle of my stay. I got it figured out so thank god I didn’t have to pay anything, but still I can’t even begin to imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t figured that out. It never happened again and I didn’t hear anyone else say it happened to them so I’m inclined to believe it was actually just an honest mistake. Aside from that this place was perfect and I would highly recommend it

This treatment center did my intake a week before my flight and said my insurance was good to go. I spent about 2 weeks here and then they randomly came to my room telling me that they actually dont take my insurance.… Mind you not they sold me the dream and I paid 600$ to fly across the country for adequate recovery treatment and did not receive any type of care. In fact the living conditions were filthy and had fleas. I am now facing homelessness because they lied to get me across the country, in a state that I dont know anyone in and have zero support in. I do not recommend this facility to anyone never mind anyone who is trying to take their recovery serious. All they care about is getting paid for you and there was word from other clients there that body brokering was happening. This place is highly unethical and does not care about your wellness here. Do not go here, do not send your loved ones here. Stay very far away. Zero stars if possible. I asked for a refund on my flight becsuse they lied about taking my insurance to get me out here. I could've saved the money and gotten adequate treatment not across the country.

I have a love/hate relationship with LJR. It's complicated, but I have to say that it IS a great place to detox. The nursing staff is top-notch, exhibiting a tremendous amount of care, empathy and experience. Francisco… was my guardian angel, always ready to lend an ear, guidance and giggles. They are *almost* always willing to fulfill requests. The staff is remarkably kind and helpful.

In the past 35 days of sobriety, I have had time to reflect positively on my time at La Jolla Recovery. The experience was exceptional, start to finish. Although my stay there was brief comparatively, it made an… affirming and long-lasting impression on me in so many ways. My admission advisor, Justene, made the accommodations so quickly and painless. She went the extra mile providing good information, clearing my small dog and best buddy to stay by my side throughout the sojourn. Caring, compassionate, angelic Izzy greeted us with reassurance; remaining a brilliant light giving wholehearted encouragement. My entire care team - starring Francisco, RN Ms. Mary and RN Alex - always kept me in good health and spirits. I learned wise things from Amy, Andrea, Matt, Shane and Val. Blake takes his role as house manager quite seriously. Residents were well cared for, and the rapport with all staff was evident. I absolutely cannot forget the Chef. In addition to keeping everyone fully fed, he went way above in painstakingly making amazing vegetarian meals especially for me. My game has changed; I have leveled up appropriately. For the first time in years I am confident in stride knowing I have the power over alcohol. I may come across highs, lows, in-betweens – that is a given. But, the impactful impression by La Jolla Recovery will remain constant for a lifetime. Sincerest thanks to all at LJR, Jason

Mental health and substance abuse clients are housed together, which was NOT explained during admission, There is only one TV for the entire house, and the houses are not on the beach. Neither house has NO AIR… CONDITIONING conditioning. Classes run Monday–Saturday from 7:30am to 3:30pm with 1.5-hour sessions. There are many other options!

— WARNING: Unsafe neglect, arrogant staff, and zero oversight I went to this place for detox and left deeply shaken. If you’re thinking about going here, read this. This is my personal experience — and it was awful.… From day one the staff’s attitude screamed arrogance and indifference. My towel was taken and I waited all day to get a replacement. I knocked, they heard me — and then three staffers locked themselves in an adjacent room, joked around, and cranked up white noise for nearly an hour and 50 minutes while I stood there needing a towel to shower. That level of deliberate ignoring felt humiliating and disrespectful — the worst possible welcome for someone in withdrawal. The lack of oversight and basic care was dramatic. I didn’t get my alcohol-detox meds until day 3, which made my withdrawal far worse and dangerous. When meds finally arrived, staff tried to claim I’d already completed “four days” of detox — an explanation that made no medical sense and felt like they were trying to cover up neglect. It honestly felt like the doctors/staff were testing me — letting me suffer — and that’s terrifying when someone is sick and vulnerable. There’s also an unsettling impression that management doesn’t take complaints seriously. Staff behavior, locked doors, and long delays in basic care all point to an organization that values convenience over patient safety. I even suspect their online ratings don’t match reality — but that’s my impression, not a proven fact. Consequences I experienced: prolonged, painful withdrawal symptoms; humiliation and loss of trust; and the feeling that my safety didn’t matter. Rehab should be a place of care and oversight — this place failed on both counts. If you’re considering this facility: ask for exact med protocols up front can’t be sure this rehab is body brokering; might be a flop house, insist on written timelines for care, and think twice before trusting their online reviews without corroboration.

Do not send a loved one here if there is any question of a dual diagnosis. Outside contracted (psychiatric)providers do not give a comprehensive evaluation or treatment. My son’s “treatment” was woefully inadequate. He… was accepted into their out patient program in spite of my repeated attempts to inform them of his complex history and lack of accurate diagnosis. But they did take the insurance money, no problem. In case there is a “we a very sorry to hear” response. I say to La Jolla Recovery, contact me directly, I will tell you point by point how his care was inappropriate. He went to you in good faith and the result was disastrous. Zero stars if I could.
