The provision listed at Louis Stokes VA Medical – Canton is intensive outpatient and outpatient care. Structured outpatient runs to a schedule while people return home in the evening. A proper assessment sets the level rather than leaving it to guesswork, and it is worth asking for one explicitly.

You’ll get what you need but barely. Impossible to get crutches from them. Just expect less and you’ll be fine
I’ve been coming to the Louis Stokes VA for a decade now and I always receive great care! I’m so thankful for my care team and the women’s health clinic here is really great! I hear so many veterans complain about other… VA hospitals, and I’m forever grateful that has never been my experience. Sometimes the wait is a little long for some things, but that’s understandable if it isn’t urgent (for instance I had a standard dentist appointment in May and my cleaning appointment isn’t until the end of September), but I don’t mind because I always get taken care of.
Normally I am a huge advocate for our VA, but a problem has arisen. It doesn't have anything to do with the care. Apparently someone at the VA decided to get a new system for appointments. Let me tell you it is not… better! I've had to reschedule two different appointments because it cancelled them, one of them twice! How many vets is this happening to!? How many aren't getting appointments that they need because they keep getting cancelled!?
The Dom "across the street" from the VAMC is so strict on veterans it's obscene. The VoA shouldn't be so hard on people for no reason. The VoA have a problem with stealing as well and not handing out medications.
I love my parent's doctors at this clinic. They're always treated with respect here and never having to wait too long to be seen. Why am I giving a 1 star? Because the RUDE woman operator who answered the call. I live… out of state and I was needing to change an appt for my parent. In the middle of me talking this RUDE LADY WITH ZERO PHONE ETIQUACY transfers me to scheduling. She did not say she was transferring she just did it while I was speaking. I don't care that I needed the scheduling dept, have some darn manners lady and wait for a person to finish speaking then say, "ma'am I'm going to transfer you to the correct dept". Is that so hard? I can't stand rude people who work in customer service. Quit your job if you hate it so much! Let someone with manners have the job. I hope she has the day she deserves!
Outstanding service! And a great group of people who care about you!
Absolutely horrible service! I guess we’re back to the pre-Trump era where these guys couldn’t water out of a boot if the instructions were written on the bottom! Woke up this morning with terrible pain in my shoulder,… probably injured at playing golf yesterday. Got to the VA and was checked into triage pretty quickly, sent me up for an x-ray, which went pretty quickly. Then they sent me in a waiting room. With one other gentleman to see the doctor. After 45 minutes, I turned him and said how long have you been sitting here, to which he replied over an hour and a half! I’m like, what the hell! I poke my head out into the hallway, expecting to see a flurry of doctors, nurses and staff losing their minds because Overwhelmed with patients. Nope! Nobody! Nada! I can’t help feel that if we don’t get this DEI out of our government and our health system, nobody will ever get anything done! I ended up walking out of the ER without getting helped! Just horrible horrible service!
VA staff doesn't get enough credit now. I know there used to be problems years ago but the care you receive now is better than anywhere. If you've only ever gone to the VA for Healthcare, you have no idea how hard it is… to get any kind of care with outside insurance. Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and all the staff that are super friendly and caring.
My wife became seriously ill immediately after consuming breakfast at the public cafeteria. I suspect that inspection of food preparation activities is below standard.
I'll start with the positive. 1. We cannot believe our good fortune in finding Dr. Smilovich in Geriatrics- who helped my severely disabled father finally increase his VA benefits as he deserved after suffering silently… from the impacts of Vietnam. She is the GREATEST primary care doctor that we could have ever asked for. We listen to her every word, because she creates a knowledgeable conversation with her patients and even helped us to manage a rare disease known as Myotonic Dystrophy Type 2- which has elevated risks of cardiovascular disease by using Praluent (statins are contradictory for people with this condition). 2. We love the vegan sushi in the cafeteria. We wish that the VA would add more vegan foods because my dad is in assisted living and they cannot cook whatsoever but charge top dollar to literally feed seniors only foods that will kill them quickly. 3. It took a long time to get other things sorted out like transportation- but they did it. 4. Neurology, cardiology, GI, and Audiology have all risen to the challenges that my dad is facing. 5. This VA needs serious structural and facilities upgrades- NOTHING is designed for the hearing impaired to communicate and hearing aids do not work for far too many veterans. The elevators are frequently out. We've walked into clinics with the TV blaring- drowning out any change that my dad could effectively communicate with anyone. And the lack of wheelchairs- or ability to take people in wheelchairs- let them us it for an appointment or attached a walker to it is a MAJOR problem. It was a long struggle to get him a motorized scooter and even then it was tough to figure out the transportation for him and the main street is very narrow- as are a number of the facilities. 6. We also desperately need to get customized taller wheelchairs for taller people- over 6 ft- who can not stand from a sitting position in a regular wheelchair...so we hope that Prosthetics will rise to the challenge too. For Cleveland area, it's a decent VA- and we're grateful especially after multiple miserable experiences dealing with the Cleveland Clinic. In fact, my dad refuses to go to the Cleveland Clinic now because of the VA ....and even while their facilities need a lot of attention- their doctors and care teams are committed, caring, and have gone out of their way to help us get what he deserves because it has been a horribly long road and no matter what- he always says that the price he paid with his hearing and mobility from combat related injuries is NOT worth any amount of money or free healthcare because he was a brilliant medical researcher for his post- military career. While no one can truly compensate for multiply disabilities and deafness, they can and have succeeded in making his every day life and getting medical care easier and less stressful- and for that we really appreciate the doctors, staff, and people committed to the VA....(and NOT their contractors like Optum- who is part of United Healthcare...). ALL VA FUNDS SHOULD GO BACK TO SUPPORTING DOCTORS AND ADMIN AND FACILITIES OF THE VA- not outsourcing. Outsourcing = corporations stealing the money that WE THE VETERANS EARNED.
The VA Wade Park Hospice Team is the best. They are kind, caring, and patient. My Dad is a patient there. The Team has been a blessing to both of us. Thank you!
I am 74 years old and have been using the VA and going to the Wade Park campus for various things (such as a colonoscopy and aqua therapy) for about two years. (I formerly used good employer-paid private health at the… Cleveland Clinic.) I have nothing but positive things to say about this VA facility and its medical staff and support personnel.
We just had the worst experience. I gave 2 stars because we have a couple decent experiences but overall they take forever for any kind of diagnosis or treatment. My husband needed his gull bladder taken out but it took… a year because the first doctor accused him of looking for meds. (He's already on plenty of meds that he doesn't want to be on.) So pain and weight loss for a year. TODAY it's been 8 months of coming up for the same scans on his eyes every 2 months because he can't see out his peripheral and has issues with depth perception. We came in to get results. Appt for 2:30 and didn't see the doctor until 5:30! For him to say well we will don't see anything so we will check again in 6 months. We drive an hour and half up there every time and even after 8 months no answers, no relief, nothing! Then I ask a question and he pretty much blows me off. DOCTOR MORGAN THE OPTHALMOLOGIST IS WORTHLESS!
I was a patient in this hospital in February. While I was a patient there one of the nurses tried to give me someone elses medications. I brought it up to my treatment team when I was in and there was no follow up about… it. I brought it up to a patient advocate too and there was no resolution or follow up. I was told I would here from an incident response person and I never heard from it.
Some of the worst pain of my life. Fizzy. They put me back outside regardless of the fact there was no patients to be seen. Then if you go somewhere else they don’t want to pay for it. They do not care. No empathy at… all.
From the time I entered the emergency room and to 4B in the hospital I have received the greatest treatment and respect from everyone Doctors on down. When I leave I will miss them all especially Christa with her great… personality and sense of humor caused me to laugh the most I have in decades.
Communication between departments needs to improve..trying to call up to the va can definitely be a headache..the hospital has up to date equipment which is a plus..not happy with the nursing care team on the 6th floor… inpatient. They can definitely improve in there area of practice
Wonderful people and care center ❤️
I had surgery here today. No non-sense, light hearted, and kind-hearted people work here.
I'm upgrading my review from one star. Originally, I was very frustrated because I had a hard time getting my round trip mileage from Michigan. I was denied twice after trying to work with the travel pay office to get… it figured out. The patient advocate was completely useless. They should not be in their position if they don't want to do their job and help veterans. After months of extreme frustration I finally found someone from the travel office who helped rectify the situation. Overall, I think most people at the VA are good people. I just had a bad experience with my travel pay issue. If you have trouble keep trying to find the right person who can help.
My son had surgery February 11, 2026. The medical staff was outstanding. A special thank you to Erica, NA. She was so friendly and helpful. We stayed at the Fisher House. Very impressive to say the least. I'm so happy… that our veterans have this outstanding medical facility.
Well I have no problem when I go there 🙂 And I'm serve my country with honor and have and receive a honorable discharge
Suicide rates would go down drastically if they shut this place down
Wait times have been reduced significantly over the years!!! Staff is like any other, some good some bad.
