About Addiction Services and Pharmacotherapy – Madison

Addiction Services and Pharmacotherapy operates from 210 East Olin Avenue in Madison, close enough to Monona and Shorewood Hills to serve both. Anyone within about 5 miles can reach it without a major journey, which takes in Madison, Shorewood Hills, Maple Bluff and Fitchburg. Madison sits in Dane County, and the county’s own provision is limited enough that this site draws from a wide area.

Services run to detox, intensive outpatient and outpatient care. SAMHSA holds the federal registration; the Wisconsin Department of Health Services the state license. Approved medication runs alongside counseling, which is what medication-assisted treatment means in practice. Sessions can be held remotely where travel is difficult. The facility works with veterans and military families.

Asap is such an awesome clinic. The best one I've been to, tbh. I don't go to this Madison one specifically, I go to the one in Milwaukee co/West Allis. But I wanted to review Madison because I know that is where Dr.… Harkin usually practiced, and he'd be in Milwaukee once a week, a while ago. He is/was one of the best doctors ever. I miss him dearly. A couple years ago during an appointment with him, he wrote me a note to place somewhere I could see it often that says; "I am valuable", and I put it in my lock box for my take homes, and it's been there ever since. I see it everyday. It is the little things in life. Definitely bummed he retired, hope he is doing well. And Asap clinic is most definitely the one to go to, if you are looking for a clinic. They actually care and don't make you feel like just another number in their system.

March 25 I will have been clean for 2 years. I have been to many clinics and never have come this far! If I have a problem I get dealt with usually that day and with addiction being fast and efficient can be life or… death. I think Dr. Harkin has tried hard to make his clinic a better the typical methadone clinics and I think he’s done amazing job! Not one of the other clinics in Madison can you walk into and say I’m struggling can I please talk to the doctor, not one of them will you be able to do that but at ASAP you can and that’s enough for me that right there is what it should be! When we walk in there in the morning sometimes all we need is someone to say hi , how are u doing with a smile on their face and that’s enough to change that day!! I’m so grateful for my second chance at life….well let’s keep it real more like 100th chance at life!! Lol but I think I got it this time and that’s thanks to dr. Harkin and he’s amazing staff!!

I was at this clinic for 3 years almost and the best thing that ever happened to me was switching to Psychological Addiction Services. While I was at asap my hippa rights were violated by my counselor multiple times to… her family. When I heard Psychological Addiction services was getting a mobile unit I started asking questions because I would sometimes be stuck in the medical rides for 6 hours or more. Every staff member at ASAP that knew about it lied to me and said oh you have to be phased to utilize the mobile unit in Portage. This is not true!! I was still using sporadically because another thing is I went through 5 FIVE different counselors and the root of my addiction was not getting addressed because after awhile you do get sick of telling your story over and over again. I'm proud to say I am now clean & have been able to maintain sobriety and it's because I finally stood my ground and made the switch! If you live north of Madison please do not keep going- you do not have to even be clean to start on the Mobile unit. Hands down best choice I made for myself!!

Dr Harkin, is great he is truly compassionate for his patient's. I have only been to one other clinic and they just treat you like a number, they treat you with respect at ASAP and they don't judge. It seems like… everyone likes Dr Harkin, you will even find him out in the parking lot from time to time giving fist bumps to his patient's and asking them how they are doing.

The one (and only - unfortunately) methadone clinic that is an actual RESPECTABLE, CLEAN, SAFE CLINIC. I have had my share of experience and to have a place where you are respected and treated like a person, is HUGE.… PLUS, as part of treatment, you are assigned a counselor; had Dawn Marie been my counselor through life, I probably wouldn't even NEED to go to a methadone clinic! You have no doubt that she has your back and best interests at heart. Which is priceless when it comes to treatment and getting WELL. Even if you have to drive a bit farther, THIS is the clinic that cares about your sobriety and wants you to succeed!

I transferred here after my long time doctor moved away. Dr Harkin is amazing and I'm definitely disappointed he is no longer prescribing Suboxone. Transitioning to the new clinic that was suggested to me has been less… than smooth to say the least. Most definitely not an easy transition like it was when I transferred to Dr Harkin

It used to be a compassionate place where the patient came first. Now it seems that we are no more than a number, or that we are more like cattle than people. It's a sad trend that I hope will be reversed. This has been… the trend as the clinic has grown in size, hopefully this trend will not continue, only time will tel . There is a lot that is great about this clinic overall still.

Could not recommend ASAP more. The doctor is amazing you can truly feel the energy shift so much higher by simply walking into this clinic. Every staff member knows that they are worth their weight in gold to this place… all while still staying humble and truly treating every patient with kindness and respect. Every person struggling with this disease has heard all the whispers and felt all the judging eyes in every other part of their daily lives and it is beyond refreshing to walk into a building and be confidant in the fact that you are not being judged NO MATTER where you are currently in your life. Honestly, I truly feel like the open arms and just all around respect/compassion I was given from the receptonist, to the person who took my intake information, to the nurse, as well as my counselor, and especially Dr. Harkin that I received the first day I walked into this "second shot at life" giving place was the ONLY reason I was able to start my recovery process at all. I could not recommend ASAP more. If you're struggling please reach out to this Doctor and his staff.

I was at home immediately I had a long time doctor retire and he suggested ASAP and thank God I went there the staff is warm friendly and makes you feel welcome. Dr. Harkin is the most humble and comforting Dr. I have… ever had. I drive from Janesville and everyone asks why I don't go to a local Dr and I won't change because Dr. Harkin is such an awesome human being. Truly the best clinic and doctor ever. Maureen Martin

I’m a patient at this clinic, and my only regret is that I didn’t come here sooner. I was a patient at Madison East and I actually overdosed there and thankfully survived. Only reason being is because East wouldn’t… accept me as a patient which is another story. Dr. Harkin was a doctor at East for a short amount of time and believe me he was the only doctor who cared!! Long story short I’m blessed to now be at this clinic , I have nothing negative to say about it, the staff are great and act like they care. Highly recommend!

ASAP is the best clinic in Madison by far. no competition. All the nurses and staff àre great. Dr. Harkin is the greatest of all time This is best clinic in Madison so I recommend going to this clinic but if you decide… not to go to this clinic just make sure that whatever clinic you decide to go to you do not go to Psychological Addiction Services aka PAS off E. Washington Ave in Madison, WI.

Dr. Harkin has been an absolute rock star and has gotten me back on my feet after years of me trying to destroy myself. He made me realize im worthwhile and have thing to offer. Not only that but his staff is… IMPECCABLE. Mike I believe is the clinic director and he is the one who got me in and registered so quickly. I mean if it had taken one extra day I was at the point where I would have said screw it. Also, now my new counselor Kristin is amazing. She takes your time just as seriously as hers which I have never experiences in a mental health setting. Its always "this is the time you take it or you don't get seen and it will go in your Record as failure to conform to treatment plan". So I cant say enough great things about this place. I recommend it to everyone I know. They are far beyond the sun greater than any place I have ever been.

I've been in the clinic a little bit over 4 years. My experience at another clinic had gotten so horrible that I almost gave up. But I decided not to let someone else push me off my square and I transferred to ASAP. I… have not felt so good about sharing my life story in a long time. I feel like I have someone listening to me. I feel like an individual, I don't feel like I am being put into a category. My counselor and Dr. Harkin actually listen and act upon your situation. My recovery is just as important to them as it is to me.
