Your journey will be begin via a phone screening with an administrative person who will have you set up a time to come to the facility in person. Once you're at the center you're greeted by an intake staff who will ask… you about your current drug and alcohol use, housing situation, family situation, court cases and that sort of thing. They'll ask about your insurance situation but most of the clients here at Spark are on the Oregon Health Plan - so you're totally covered for behavioral health! This process takes about 1.5 hours or so. Once your insurance is approved you'll move to the scheduling area where a staff member will get a pulse for your interests, strengths and weaknesses in treatment and try and augment the programming that is tailored to you! The programming is two different classes per morning. For example "Anger Management" or "Art. If you're in need of immediate housing (currently on the streets or in an emergency shelter) the agency will set you up with a bed in a sober living house completely FREE of charge. The center partners with local agencies who will do same day placements. Men's and woman's houses are separate. There is an Oregon City house and a SE Portland home. They'll work with whatever makes the most sense for you! Most of the houses will have a blackout policy meaning no cell phone for a week, and no leaving the house unchaperoned by another house mate (trust me this flies by!!!) Transportation is always provided from sober housing to the facility. They're in 18 passenger vans and come roughly between 8am and 9am 5 days a week. You'll arrive at treatment around 9am and hangout in the milieu area (living room) drink coffee, mentally prepare for the day and go to your assigned group at 9:30-10:45. There is a coffee break at 10:45 till 11:00am- and you'll have group #2 until 12:15pm. The coffee is pretty good (Folgers) with cream and sugar. UA's are random and occur twice per week at the PHP level - check your name on the board and just hit up the UA techs located in the obscure office next to the couches. They'll take you to a restroom where you give your sample! At 12:15 you'll get a hot lunch. It ranges from a Cafe Yum bowl, to a burrito from the local mexican joint. Pizza is always on Friday's! and it's Dominoes. This lunch is completely free of charge and included in treatment. The Afternoon group starts at 1:30pm until 3:15pm (it's a longer lunch) but a good time to unwind. You'll meet with a main counselor every single week to discuss how things are going and putting together a discharge plan and certain treatment goals. You'll also see the in-house physician the first day or second day in order to get medications that'll help you along the way. This doctor will not be your PCP however and you'll be required to obtain your own as a condition for graduation. Outside of groups at the facility there is no outside meeting minimum although some housing providers may require some for their own policy. Every Saturday a peer support specialist will pick folks up on Saturday for an optional AA meeting in the local area for convenience! Every single Wednesday there is a group outing to different activities in the community. This ranges from bowling alley's to the pumpkin patch in October. Lunch is provided before the van leaves and it's a Jimmy Johns turkey sandwich at 10:45 - the van will depart for the field trip around 11:15-11:30. Before the activity starts however you'll be transported to the URS club out in east county for this really awesome AA meeting - seems boring at first but it's a good meeting! All of this stuff will happy like clock work five days a week for about 4-6 weeks- at which time you'll "step down" to IOP level of care. This is held in the evenings instead of the morning and there will be no more hot lunch, activities but you won't have to wake up anymore for that van! The UA's go down to once a week and it's a color system so be sure to call in!! The IOP evening classes at 4:45-8:30-8:45ish - it just depends. After 90 days or so you will graduate!
This review is for SLO (2022)… I hope the changing of your business name means the changing of the dynamics of your treatment structure. Thank you for helping me figure out what my issues were thru packets and deep… internal work in your groups. It helped me understand myself better so I could stack tools even now, with it being years later… I am able to draw on them and use them as I need them. I wish relapse wasn’t a part of my story but it was. I relapsed 3 individual times over a day span but was able to catch it before I spiraled leaning on the things I learn from your classes. So thank you. My clean date is Dec 1, 2022 and that is from everything… drugs, alcohol, lying, crime, nicotine and being someone I’m not. The con’s of things were during my intake not being believed with a group outside harassing me. To the point that my intake counselor didn’t believe me and had me go to the hospital. I didn’t belong there. I needed to be believed. BUT… I went because I wanted the help. I just hope better safety plans are set in place. I struggled with living in your treatment house for women and things happening and being forced to say anything because I didn’t want to be kicked out of treatment and to protect myself I went home instead. But I wanted to finish treatment so I came back. I still pay today for saying anything to the manager at that house because they told me in was in their policy. It’s hard when you have a “window” of time to say anything or you’ll get kicked out. I’ve be been thru a lot with the situations I’ve been placed in because of being inbetween a rock and a hard place. Not self pity… realism. The other con was the billing. I don’t understand why the bill I had was doubled every single time but maybe it was an “error” of sorts. With all that aside thank you so much for helping me. Anywhere anyone goes there will always be ups and downs. ❤️🩹 - Corrin Ku’ulei O Kalani Bechtold (veracruz) (don’t mind the time… I’m an early riser)
My daughter was a patient at Spark this year. I was impressed with the staff and the overall experience. She has remained sober since graduating from the program. I will forever be thankful for the care she received… there. God bless them.
Spark Wellness, formerly known as SLO, has given me the greatest gift—a second chance at life. This program has taught me invaluable lessons, offering a safe space to confront my past, unearth buried trauma, and begin… the healing process. It has helped me learn how to cope and grow into a stable, contributing member of society. I’ve witnessed countless men and women graduate from the program and continue to maintain their sobriety to this day. Every staff member at Spark Wellness is genuinely compassionate, supportive, and deeply committed to our recovery.
My experience at Spark Wellness Recovery Center has truly been life-changing. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was met with compassion, understanding, and a level of support I didn’t even know I needed. The… addiction counselors played a huge role in my recovery journey. They took the time to really listen and understand where I was coming from, without judgment. Their guidance helped me uncover the root of my struggles, and their personalized approach made all the difference. The mental health counselors were equally amazing—patient, caring, and incredibly knowledgeable. They helped me work through emotional challenges I had been carrying for years and gave me tools to start healing from the inside out. Every member of the staff at Spark Wellness, from the front desk to the group facilitators, created a warm and safe environment that made me feel supported every step of the way. It never felt like I was just another client—they genuinely cared about my well-being and celebrated each milestone with me. I left the program not only with a deeper understanding of myself but also with a solid set of skills that I continue to use every day. The coping strategies, communication techniques, and mindfulness practices I learned here have given me a strong foundation to build a healthier, more hopeful future. I am so grateful for everything Spark Wellness has done for me. If you or someone you care about is struggling, reaching out to them. They truly care - and it shows in everything they do.
Graduating from Spark Wellness has truly changed my life. When I came in, I was scared, broken, and unsure if I could ever stay sober, but today, I am proud to say I am sober, employed, and present as a mother and… grandmother. The program gave me real tools to maintain my sobriety in the real world, including relapse prevention, healthy coping skills, and how to build a support system. The job readiness and life skills training helped me gain employment, which has given me confidence and a sense of purpose I had lost. I now wake up each day ready to show up for my family and live a life I’m proud of. What stood out most to me was the staff and counselors. They were consistently compassionate, non-judgmental, and truly invested in my success. They supported me every step of the way, even when I doubted myself. The groups were engaging and taught me how to communicate better, manage stress, and set healthy boundaries. The program has a high success rate because they provide structured accountability while treating you with respect and dignity. I saw many others graduate during my time there, and I continue to see people thriving after completing the program, which speaks to the lasting impact of their approach. If you are struggling and feel like there is no way out, this program can help you find hope and a new way of living. I am now a better mother, grandmother, and person because of Spark Wellness. I am so grateful for the opportunity to heal here, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is serious about changing their life and sustaining sobriety. Thank you, Spark Wellness, for helping me find myself again and for giving me a second chance at life! -Chelsea Osborne-
I graduated from Spark Wellness and can honestly say it changed my life. From the moment I walked in, I felt supported, seen, and never judged. The staff truly care about each person’s recovery — they go above and… beyond to provide tools, guidance, and real compassion.
Great first time being in an IOP counselors are amazing.
Incredible! Caring, compassionate, and professional, SLO has changed my life. This team makes it easy to open up about struggles with addiction, trauma, and daily life. They go out of their way to make everyone feel… welcome. Providing a safe and secure environment is a top priority. No matter what you've been through or are going through, SLO can help you navigate healing and thriving. The work starts with you. The staff at SLO will meet you where you're at and support your growth in any way possible. I speak directly from experience. I've spent 6 months transitioning through treatment with SLO and they accommodated my needs every step of the way. They truly cared that I was ready for each step instead of treating me like a product on a conveyor belt. Parting with them will be bittersweet because they have impacted my life greatly but the sweet part is having the tools to go forth without needing their scaffolding. This team will forever be in my heart and on my mind!
