Chronic Pain and Addiction Treatment in Oregon

Chronic pain and a substance use disorder often occur in the same person. Oregon programs that list pain and addiction services aim to treat both together rather than in separate offices. Coordinated care means the addiction team and the pain prescriber share one plan, agree on medication, and talk before anything changes.

Listings for this service sit mostly in Oregon towns. Eugene, Salem, Roseburg, Springfield and Bend appear most often. Ninety-four percent are within 25 miles of a river, most often the Clackamas or the Willamette. Portland International is the nearest major airport for about three in ten, and the median distance to the nearest airport is 14.4 miles.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Oregon cities have pain and addiction programs?

People living near Beaverton or Portland can also compare programs closer to home, and asking intake staff how a program coordinates pain care with addiction treatment is a reasonable first question to raise.

Does Oregon Health Plan cover pain and addiction care in Oregon?

The Oregon Health Plan is recorded as accepted by most of the chronic pain and addiction programs in Oregon. Members receive coverage through coordinated care organizations, which manage physical, behavioral and dental care, so pain care and addiction care can fall under one plan.

Coordinated care organizations include Trillium Community Health Plan, PacificSource Community Solutions and InterCommunity Health Network. Coverage runs through whichever plan a member is enrolled in, so checking with that plan first is worthwhile.

How is chronic pain treated when someone also has a substance use disorder?

When chronic pain occurs alongside a substance use disorder in Oregon, it is usually treated by clinicians who address both conditions at the same time and make medication decisions with the full picture in view. Physical dependence on a long-term prescription is not the same as a use disorder.

Many people on steady doses are dependent without having an addiction, and an assessment sorts out which applies. An Oregon care team may raise options such as buprenorphine, methadone, non-opioid medicines or physical and psychological therapies, but which ones fit is a clinical decision, not a menu to pick from.

Buprenorphine treats opioid use disorder and also relieves pain, and more prescribers can offer it now that the federal waiver rule ended in 2023. Methadone comes only from opioid treatment programs, known in state rules as synthetic opiate treatment programs.
