Terrace House – Buffalo Detox and Rehab Services

What Terrace House – Buffalo offers, on record, is detox and residential treatment. Detox runs under medical supervision, and the first three days carry the highest risk with alcohol and benzodiazepines. Which of these is appropriate depends on an assessment, not on what sounds manageable at the time.

Combined treatment is not recorded, which is worth checking before committing. Approved medication is paired with counseling and regular review. The weekly time commitment varies considerably between providers, so establish it early rather than after admission.

Terrace House – Buffalo Address, Location and Contact Information

The site is at 291 Elm Street in Buffalo, New York, 14203. The city lies within Erie County. Provision extends to the wider area, so check the journey before you set off. How someone gets there matters more than it sounds: travel is one of the commonest reasons a course of treatment stops partway.

A quick call before you go will settle directions, parking and what to expect first time. If getting there is hard, ask about a remote first appointment. Where no one answers, leaving a message and calling again later usually works better than giving up.

The staff here is wonderful. I feel bad I had to discharge myself after five days. I was there recently from Aug 22 to Aug 27. I thought I was in withdrawal because I was so cold and had headache. Turns out I was just… really hungry because I couldn't eat the meals there. I survived on bananas and cereal. It's very unfortunate I had to leave because of the food. Sincerely, Steven C.

I'm not even sure where to start so, tl,dr: this place is horrendous. If you have another option, take it. For one, the food is awful. I wouldn't be comfortable feeding most of what we were given to my dog, let alone… human beings in recovery, people who are largely in desperate need of proper nutrition. You can either eat the slop or survive on cereal, there is no other option. The conditions themselves are deplorable. The bathrooms are disgusting, the main living space is little better and also a sweltering 80 degrees all day. Despite the heat, there are no windows to be opened and not a fan in sight. The rooms feel better temperature wise, until you lay down on the inch and a half thick, rubberized, dollar store mattress. Which, reflects your body heat back into you, so you spend all night sweating profusely. It takes an unreasonable amount of time to get any real care. Nobody entering rehab should have to wait 2 WEEKS to see a psych and get mental health meds. People seeking more than basic comfort meds (tylenol, immodium, etc) will also be on an indefinite wait to see a provider. Though, the providers have no problem cutting those basic comfort meds without seeing you or offering any effective alternative. There seems to be a distinct lack of internal communication occurring. Three people may tell you something is okay, only to have the fourth declare it's against the rules. The administrators seem to pass down new rules and regs on a whim without confirming that everyone got the memo, so to speak. I could honestly go on and on but, essentially the entire ordeal and overall structure of the program left me feeling more like a criminal than a human being in need of help. The ONE high point was, most of the general staff seemed like good, well meaning people, doing their best to help within a terribly designed system. There's just not a whole lot to be done when the program itself is broken.

I'm still here at the one in Buffalo it's been a great place to get what you put out of it if you don't work at your problems then it's not a place for you

It's OK here. Wasn't a huge fan of Dr Mike as he loves to tell everyone who he is. He doesn't seem to understand why we're there. But the counselor I had was good but they need to be more consistent on when they see… you. and I learned some stuff from the groups. Some staff are ok. Some not so good. Place could be a little cleaner. But all in all I would recommend.

This place has kept me 4+ years sober. The counselors are amazing they offer so many programs to get you back on the right path. They really care.

This place sucks.. as a fent user.. my drug test came back clean cuz they don't even test for fent on site - which is weird because all of heroin is now fent.. as has been for years.. if it's even fent at all anymore -… who knows what we're doing. Anyways.. this place has thin as hell pillows that have earwax on them still, thin blankets and ants. Comfort meds, who? I was left in a room with like 15-20 beds, alone.. they dont care if you eat, sleep or sit there and die. I understand detox isn't comfortable, but I would not go here, if you have other options. Go somewhere else!

very unprofessional I left early due to costs and insurance purposes and they couldn't even write me a letter for work just stating the dates I was there . Some staff are great but not alot highly recommend getting… trapped in a basement of a serial killer than here !

Please do not choose to go here!! The staff are absolutely aweful. They treat you with no dignity and respect. I came in looking very bad, and out of an abusive relationship and the staff treated me like garbage. The… residental rehab supervisor Elizabeth is a snob, and should not be working there. The support staff treat you like you are beneath them. The nursing supervisor is very arrogant, and favors the men. I left early and did not complete because of the horrendous way I was treated. For your own safety stay far away from any horizon!

I had a horrible experience here. I highly recommend not going here. The facility is very unprofessional, nothing is ever on time. People were constantly leaving or coming in so staff didn't have time for us mostly.… Getting medication and information about it was hard and I left some of my clothes there, they never gave back. Just not a good experience at all for me

My experience was from my early and mid twenties. I’ve since turned my life around fully and completely. I thought the staff was always very kind. They can be rather strict. You’ll have to wait a day or so for your… comfort meds. Ie: Clonadine a (sedative) methocarbamol for (muscle spasms) Imodium for (stomach issues) and Abien (sleep aid) the only thing I really didn’t care for, was being woken up for blood pressure readings. When you’re in withdrawal or detoxing from something, it’s hard enough to get some sort of rest. It’s not supposed to be a comfortable fun experience. You’re there to detox and turn your life around. While I was there girls would try passing notes to me, I was there for one thing. Getting better. Period.

First and last rehab I ever hope to attend. This place completely changed my life for the better and Horzion in general is an incredibly compassionate company. The large majority of counselors and TA’s are all there for… the right reasons and if you’re willing to put in the work they will give you your life back. Thank you Terrace House.

I went here for detox and it was disgusting. I was here for 4 days, they denied me meds and made me suffer throughout the entire night and next morning, there were nicotine patches and hair stuck to the walls of the… shower, and i got scabies!! It was terrible! And my insurance didnt cover it so we had to pay like 900 dollars. This was horrible. Go to ecmc or out of state. And all the girls do here is chase the guys soon as they feel better and vice versa. Its sad and pathetic. Ill never go here again. Scabies??? Come on!! Gross!

Ridiculously irrational rules stating you can only drop off 3 packs of cigarettes to the family member in your life who can't control his/her behavior despite the average stay is 30 days. They do allow them to call you… everyday to ask for more cigarettes, creating an interuprtion in your busy life, no matter how far away you live, to bring addicts the most addictive subtance on the planet, nicotine. Is your big facility too small to keep a carton or two in a locker? Or do you want family members to get frustrated with addicts family/support system?! I'm sorry, but the logic the administration.. they must have been on drugs when they created the rules.
