UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside – Pittsburgh Detox and Rehab Services
UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside – Pittsburgh is listed as running detox, residential treatment and intensive outpatient. Detox runs under medical supervision, and the first three days carry the highest risk with alcohol and benzodiazepines. The structured element runs during the day and people go home afterwards. Which of these is appropriate depends on an assessment, not on what sounds manageable at the time.
The record does not show integrated provision, so confirm this if it matters. Approved medication is paired with counseling and regular review. Ask what a typical week involves before committing, since the schedule determines whether the program is workable alongside work or family.

UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside – Pittsburgh Address, Location and Contact Information
3811 OHara Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 15213 is the address held. Pittsburgh sits in Allegheny County. People travel in from the surrounding area, and confirming the route beforehand saves difficulty. How someone gets there matters more than it sounds: travel is one of the commonest reasons a course of treatment stops partway.
It is worth calling first to confirm access, parking and the shape of a first visit. Where travel is difficult, ask whether an initial appointment can be held remotely. Where no one answers, leaving a message and calling again later usually works better than giving up.

I’d love to give my flowers to nurse Eva om the CED unit , she was such a doll & such a sweet person , she made my stay so much more better & enjoyable & helped me through my journey , I couldn’t thank her enough , if… you see this , thank you homegirl 💕💕💕
My wife has been treated here three times since the beginning of this year. We have had a very positive experience with the doctors and staff. The doctors are excellent, professional, and truly knowledgeable. I’m very… grateful for the care and support they have provided to my wife.
Western Psychiatric Hospital is one of the few places that leaves me genuinely struggling to find enough good things to say. Every experience I’ve had there has been exceptional. From the moment you walk through the… doors, the staff, UPMC Police, nurses, and physicians treat people with dignity, respect, and compassion. More importantly, they actually listen. That alone sets them apart from many healthcare experiences. What impresses me most is the physicians’ ability to quickly assess complex situations and determine what’s actually going on with their patients. Their clinical judgment is remarkable, and in my opinion, some of the brightest doctors in the entire UPMC system work within those walls. On more than one occasion, I have witnessed them stabilize a patient in a matter of minutes after other facilities struggled for days. That level of expertise isn’t luck it’s the result of highly skilled professionals who know what they’re doing. Western Psychiatric has been the saving grace of UPMC for me. If it weren’t for the incredible physicians and staff there, I would have moved my healthcare to another network, such as Johns Hopkins or the Cleveland Clinic, a long time ago. To everyone at Western Psychiatric thank you for the professionalism, compassion, and expertise you show every day. You make an immeasurable difference in the lives of your patients and their families.
Took my son in for a psych eval. On the phone I was told he could have me there for support. Get there and am told I can't be there with him. Nor can he keep his phone to communicate with me while he waits alone for… hours to get emergency psychiatric care. What a terrible way to treat patients.
It was really fun my first night day there they were really kind and we even got some treats for taking a shower and brushing our teeth ect they provide some stuff and it was safe no strings nothing sharp but I didn't… really understand why they took out bottle caps but eh I really didn't care but I had a great time there so fun some food was good and some was nasty they have computers for school work if no school work youtube I would be laughing at the funny videos and I even got to play a guitar and other fun ones I meet really kind people there only one kinda rude lady but it was fun and I didn't wanna leave.
Worst hospital
Dont bother bringing your suicidal children here.. you will just be waiting for hours with no help.
They do a great job organizing, taking care of and helping people. They are very kind and I appreciate them very kindly
I took $200 worth of food and clothes to my mom and she only got one shirt and pants
I went to this place in crisis in a need of a therapist. They were terrible. They have no options to do therapy and they don’t offer Any therapy at this time that is not accepted by some sort of outside commercial… insurance. I called in to see if I could get a one-on-one therapist versus group therapy, which I feel should only apply to alcoholics, and drug addicts. Which I do not feel either apply to me. Disappointed and would not recommend to anyone.
I can only vouch for the 13th floor but the doctor I saw and the nurses there changed my life. I was immediately put on the right meds and even my floormates were great. The ER sucked but once I got up it only got… better.
This place is horrible, no one communicates with loved ones on any process of what’s going on. The public defenders and social workers do not consult with family members involved with legal steps
My mother was turned away and sent home with no help after having a panic attack right in front of the nurses and saying she'll kill herself. She had to go to the ER because of this terrible place ignoring her in clear… distress and sent her off with a bill for treatment she DID NOT RECEIVE. I'm planning to sue for negligence and malpractice. They don't help people here.
How many days do I have to wait to get my son out of there? He just got in and the truth is he doesn't suffer from anything, he just has anxiety, but he doesn't hurt anyone.
Wouldn't recommend it going here dont send your children here either they had a boy maybe 15-16 waiting in the waiting room for 3 or 4 days he told me and another kid- I was severely malnourished and I was underweight… and they said "I look fine" and I was sent home..I watched them lock another girl in a room after she cried and screamed she wanted to go home- they locked her in there
I had an amazing experience! The wait was the only thing I wasn’t a fan of. The nurses were very friendly and accommodating and the doctor’s were very knowledgeable and friendly as well. They answered mine and my wife’s… questions. It was also clean too as well as very secured!
Not the place to go if you truly need help. Well if its between M-F sure but on the weekends no one cares. Couldnt get a dr to call me back to answer any questions over the weekend.
I went here about a year ago and one of the staff members called me out in front of everyone for having to come back..
I had a consultation with Dr. Jeremiah for spravato. He agreed it was right for me and said I'd be called in a few days. A month later I've never recieved a call from them. On top of that the facility for spravato is… very institutional, cold and feels like a jail. I see why people have bad experiences with western psych. Will never return here voluntarily. The entire visit just pointed out how much the doctors just don't care.
Was on the fence about having my child admitted to any psych hospital, but they needed professional help immediately. Decided western was the best option and they did not disappoint. My child was content and safe while… hospitalized and came home feeling like themselves again. The staff handled all prescriptions in a very timely manner and all follow up appointments. They called and checked in with me regularly throughout my child's stay. No one wants to have to take their kid for psych evaluation, but if you find yourself in this situation, I would see if western is the right place for your child's needs.
Was referred from the ER as an active danger to myself. Doctor at WPH said I wasn’t in crisis and suggested I call a suicide hotline next time. The nurse disagreed and told me so, said he’d talk to her, apparently… didn’t work. When I asked what she wanted me to do about the fact I was actively suicidal the doctor suggested I drop out of school to relieve stress. Despite never making it past the waiting room that doctor proceeded to write a new diagnosis into my notes, wasn’t even aware until I looked online. That being said, there were so many inaccuracies in her notes I had a hard time differentiating what was intentional and what wasn’t. Received notes from two nurses in addition to her and they both got all the information right, so it really was on her either way. Wouldn’t recommend if you or a family member are in immediate danger, since apparently some of the doctors here don’t think thats a problem.
Though I find this institution to be filled to capacity, they still make it work out. I was there for over one week and the staff were outstanding. I’d like to give a special shoutout to security (Lindsay & Bev) Dr.… Schindler (she is amazing) and the rest of the staff Ms. Neaka, Alexis, Nicole, Cam (the best to ever do it), Shiloh, Bennie, Spidey (too cool for school), DAYRON (the most patient and youngest of the staff members!), Justin (the peer specialist, who had a great talk with me because he once was in my shoes.) I would never forget the Nurses (Ms. Lisa, Ms. Kim, Ms. Tina, Matt, Mr. Taylor, Amanda & Zoe). Thank you all for all the hard work and dedication you all put in! Honorable mention is Fiona & Odessa! I hope next time I’m there I’m a peer specialist!
U tried to help me but you couldn't succeed
If you love the family who may be experiencing a mental health crisis regardless of the circumstances, avoid Western Psychiatric Hospital and seek help elsewhere. The conditions in this facility are deplorable. The… rooms are 100 square feet, dirty, and anything resembling a therapeutic environment. The doctor involved in my cousin’s treatment is akin to Dr Frankenstein. He saw the patient a single time for perhaps 5 minutes but had no problem instituting more drugs which would be titrated to a dosage far too high for the patient. I am traumatized by the experience and I was not the one committed to this so-called hospital. Some of the staff were good, 2 nurses in particular. Otherwise, it’s simply a prison delivering mind numbing drugs and you come out worse than when you went in. Avoid at all costs.
I'll keep what happened when I was there to myself right now but worst place to ever be. I will be having them looked into.
