This place is horrible. I went for an autism diagnosis because I have been struggling to find a provider that does them for adults and this office MADE ME AN APPT AND CALLED ME ABOUT IT TWICE EVEN TELLING ME IT WOULD BE… ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF JUST TO NOT DO IT. They had me do paperwork for 30 minutes then had me sit there an additional 30 minutes even though my appt was at 10. I got called in at 1030 and they brought me all the way to a room in the back just so the lady can make weird jokes and then tell me they dont do autism diagnosis for adults. This was an absolutely horrible experience and it was so overwhelming and I finally felt I was getting the help I've been BEGGING FOR just to be sent away. I waited weeks for this appt and they knew they could never help me.

Nearly everyone at HCS is so friendly and helpful, and always empathetic and caring. I feel very fortunate for their services and feel like they are truly life-saving. Highly recommend to anyone struggling through… difficult times. They've helped me and continue to help me. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at HCS for the hard work you all do every day!

0/10, do not recommend, for poor management and oversight. It seems their frontline crisis workers have no experience. I’ll never go back or ask for help, here. Gives the opposite of what a person seeking help needs.

Yes, well I took my son to see April a Foster several months ago back at the courthouse and she has the appearance of being intoxicated then when I call back to reschedule a meeting, I have been told that she took… short-term disability well I just seen her at the beach with her family so how is that short-term disability if you’re able to go to the beach by God you’re able to work and riding that short term. Disability is a smack in your guy‘s face and as long as you let it happen, it’s going to happen

Some staff are wonderful, but organization is horribly lacking. Policies are horrendous to get into other services like physiatry. Had to have 6 appointments before referal, which was difficult considering I only went… to therapy once a month. Staff call when you have stated multiple times you are unreachable during those hours and that you have to schedule out more time.

Went for help several years ago, counselor was just like "that sucks man" to literally everything. Pretty useless. Was lied to about cost and I refused to pay more than what they quoted, but they managed to yank their… fee out of my tax return this year anyway. Now they're set up in the schools and have you sign papers saying you can review your child's records, but I got told no to the first one I asked to see. It's "internal". I think the only reason they're there is to extract insurance money. I wouldn't recommend them for anything at all.

Had a mental breakdown and police brought me here against my will. Told me the consultation is free the 1st time and to be put in confinement around $500. I ended up sitting alone in a room and having casual… conversation. No consultation or anything. Now I have a $547 bill with no information. I was told they can call me on a Monday at 8am and check in and even help me get therapy. And that didn't even happen. This place is a joke. With all due disrespect I hope your dog gets sick on your new shoes

If you are looking for help with ADHD or Autism, do not even call this place. Went through a whole intake and I know I have PTSD, but I also have a literal list I made that took me months of research to put together of… why I believe I need this testing, also loads of my family is already diagnosed so it makes sense to look into it, especially since nothing else has ever fit and I finally got it narrowed down to two things to look into and I was told it’s PTSD. Only found out from a different employee later that I was dismissed and made to feel like my concerns aren’t worth being taken seriously because this place doesn’t do the testing and instead of telling me that on the phone, they put me through an hour and half of someone constantly saying ok we only have an hour and a half and you keep getting off track (HMMM IS THAT YET ANOTHER SIGN I HAVE ADHD!!!) and then to tell me it’s PTSD. I know I have PTSD, duh! So I don’t know if they have a rule for intake that employees can’t say ADHD or Autism, but it came across like that. It was like everytime I mentioned it she didn’t hear me because it wasn’t even acknowledged. I kept thinking ok she will address it at the end, nope. Never once said we can’t do that testing. The amount of time and research and courage it took to even make that phone call only for it to fall on deaf ears. I seriously considered ending it that day after I got off the phone. I felt so many horrible things about myself because of the ‘professional’ on the other end of the line. This was the second time I tried to get help there. I should never have called them. No mental health place has ever made me feel as awful about myself and the possibility of good mental health care as Highlands has. I’m thankful and lucky my PCP knew of someone that does the testing I need.

Received exceptionally terrible ‘care’ recently as a patient in Abingdon and Danville hospitals. ‘Ha-lands’ as they are called is in my estimate an extremely dysfunctional and bureaucratic mess to the point of… fraud/waste/abuse. Social workers and case workers assigned to me were an ever-rotating cast of incompetent actors.

Highlands has been a remarkable help for me and my family with tons of resources available and if they can't help with something, they will help you find someone who can! I also receive mental health services through… highlands that has changed my life for the better dramatically! So grateful for highlands and their fantastic staff! ❤️

There is a shortage of mental health help in our area, but if you can help it, go anywhere but Highlands. There are probably a number of capable employees there, but their administration and business management is… disgusting. Their practice puts profit in front of care.

Went seeking mental help, and they evaluated me. Told me I was fine and sent me on my way, 2 or 3 days later I ended up driving myself to a mental institution. And they evaluated me, and kept me for a week. So obviously… I wasn't fine, in my opinion highlands is a joke. I would not recommend!

Absolutely hated this place I didn't feel safe my "counselor" wouldn't listen to a word I said I never felt like a could talk to her cause she basically told me I'd be hospitalized if I was suicidal then what on earth… was I there for???? How was she supposed to help me if I had to stay in fear of being hospitalized against my will?? She just told me to say nice things about myself and color like that's gonna make my depression go away and she forced me into, a girl group with a bunch of strangers so she wouldn't have to deal with me anymore I made no progress cause she clearly didn't know what depression was, you can't make it go away with crayons

Lack of proper communication and professionalism, as well as time management and consistancy is a very big problem for this establishment. The information that was needed prior to the appointment was not properly… communicated before crisis initiated appointment and the Dr. refused to meet with the client until a later date as a result, despite the parent rearanging work schedule on a minutes notice, etc. Services being provided were not with one consistent person and there were times that they did not commit to the time frame that they were supposed to be doing in home service. Friendly staff, but very poorly organized, and low staffed which is poorly effecting the quality of care.

If I could give less than one star I would. This place is absolutely horrid. They waited over 30 days to get a referral. Then my child ended up in the Er over 5 hours and they still could not see him. I'm highly upset… and highly disappointed.

Mental health care is bad enough in our area without having to jump through hoops to prove you are struggling. No wonder so many people don't get professional help with this kind of situation.
