Northside Behavioral Health Center – Tampa Detox and Rehab Services

Northside Behavioral Health Center – Tampa is listed as running residential treatment and intensive outpatient. The structured element runs during the day and people go home afterwards. Anyone unsure which level fits should ask for an assessment rather than choosing from a list, since placement criteria exist precisely to make that judgement.

Combined treatment is not recorded, which is worth checking before committing. Medication-assisted treatment combines approved medication with counseling and clinical review. Ask directly about session times and frequency, as those details decide whether someone can realistically attend.

Uncaring staff for the most part. Freezing cold rooms on the women’s side. Night shift sleeps on the job. The staff only performs well only in front of the doctor. When the doctor leaves it’s back to normal, no one… working to help. They brought a therapy dog though and it was the best part.

Doesn't deserve one star. Disgusting place. I will NEVER EVER forget it. Dirty, and food was awful. Bed was like wood. This is mental health treatment in 2023 in the United States of America??? No therapy. No help. Saw… doctor through facetime. Only given meds. Needed help coming off of tranquilizers. They took me off cold turkey! Don't come here! (I should say there were two really nice nurses, Rita and Ignacio).

After 20 years a therapy and psychiatric help, this was a new experience! The front desk was amazing, my doctor was more than I ever expected. But then the aftercare was exceptional, and they have a pharmacy in the… building. I give them a five star ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐

Worst place. Very bad experience. We arrived only 10 minutes late after calling ahead to inform them that we were stuck in traffic due to an accident. The person on the phone told us it was fine. To our surprise, when… we arrived, the receptionist was very rude and simply told us it was too late and that we needed to reschedule. On top of that, the staff was not welcoming at all, which is especially concerning for a behavior center.

When I was Baker Acted there they broke my arm. I now have severe permanent nerve damage and scars for life. All because I wasn’t in my right state of mind and they decided to break my arm while trying to sedate me. If… anyone knows a good lawyer just contact me. I have been in contact with multiple lawyers since it happened.

They received me into Northside , Rocky and the whole staff day and night were really helpful , never stopped asking me if I needed anything...I dont eat processed foods so I didn't eat much but rocky hooked me up with… some fruit...that made me happy...I might not have liked the process or how it was taken out on me...but you have too ask yourself folks....how did you get into Northside in the first place....the staff didn't put you in there.and that was how I looked at it....I had a bad night of drinking and needed a break from working 14 hours a day 7 days a week and was mentally overloaded....if not for rocky and the staff being nice too me , I would not have gotten that small vacation from life.... Thankyou Rocky , and all the rest of the staff....you made a better man out of me with this experience.

I went to Northside on Bruce B. Downs for therapy, and I left feeling dismissed and disrespected. During my session, when I tried to express something very important to me, my therapist interrupted and even clapped… repeatedly so she wouldn’t hear me out. She also told me directly that she was “not hearing me.” At the end, she said I was trying to implement “hate” onto my children, which felt extremely judgmental and hurtful. Therapy should be a safe space where clients feel heard and supported. Unfortunately, my experience was the opposite. I’m sharing this because I believe patients deserve to be treated with compassion and professionalism.

To the attention of Lillian Davis, I am writing to express my deep concern about the care I received during my recent stay at your facility. While I want to acknowledge that the daytime staff were wonderful — showing… kindness, patience, and professionalism — my experience with the night shift was the complete opposite and left me feeling neglected, unsafe, and dismissed. I was denied critical medications, including my psychiatric prescriptions, and as a result I went without them for two full days. This not only put my mental health at risk but also caused me significant distress. In addition, I had an open wound on my arm that was left uncovered, becoming red and irritated as though it was beginning to get infected, yet it was never properly addressed. I also have COPD, which requires me to sleep propped up in order to breathe comfortably. Instead of accommodating this serious medical need, staff removed my extra pillow and ignored my requests for help. The disregard for my basic health and safety needs was deeply troubling. A mental health facility should be a place of compassion, healing, and dignity. Unfortunately, my experience at night was anything but that. While I am grateful for the care provided by the daytime staff, the lack of empathy and responsibility shown by the night shift has left me with lasting emotional harm and disappointment. I truly hope my concerns are taken seriously, as no patient should ever feel the way I did while in your care.

I am absolutely appalled with rudeness and lack of empathy from staff, including physicians, and the overall poor living standards of this facility. They don't even do therapy for their patients, they are expected to… sit and mindlessly watch television or sit in their room. If you weren't depressed before entering, you'll certainly be after a night here! No one took any of my concerns as a family member seriously, flat out lied about the rules of the baker act process (or maybe they're just that incompetent at their jobs thay they truly don't know Florida's statutes). I am embarrassed this is considered part of the Baycare System and Baycare Senior leadership should be as well because no one in the building encompasses the Baycare values, or even an ounce of decency and courtesy to their fellow man. If I could have left zero stars I would.

First doctor my husband saw was good but he cut back and they gave him another which was not very personalable and kinda rude. But now i am trying to make an appointment for him and I can't because he is "inactive."… they need to talk to him.... I am just making an appointment not asking for records.

While you may get acute treatment, the following up was lacking. I was set up to see a psychiatrist who told me I felt far too good on my meds, assumed I must have bipolar since he did and refused to think it may be… related to my thyroid. Then he canceled on me the day of my appointment 3 times in a row... Surprise. It WAS related to my thyroid and I've been 100% healthy and happy since getting my thyroid tested and treated. Especially in tampa, with damp older buildings, even workplacs like schools and offices, you might have mold related thyroid issues which definitely can cause a Mental Health crisis

Im not sure if I’m spelling her name correctly but one of the women who works in front desk by the name of Seida with the blonde hair and light eyes is very rude and unwelcoming. My children come to this location… monthly and every time I have to speak to her she is extremely rude and constantly rolls her eyes whenever you ask a question or she feels like she has to go out of her way. You would think that those who work in a mental facility would be more compassionate.

Please dont take your child here. They will literally just prescribe medicine and your child will be left all on their own. You will never get in touch with any one in the office once you leave. They do not care about… your. Child whatsoever. Staff here do not introduce themselves to your child they just start asking adult questions and children do Not understand. Please do your research. These are fellows doing internships and in 1 year they leave and get another one. Please stay away from this unorganized unwelcoming and ran down place. There has to be better out there.

I was given BAD info: “first come, first served”. I got up early and arrived just as they were turning the key. I was surprised no one else seemed to want to get in line. I learned, once inside, it was appointment only.… You’re already imagining my turmoil thinking that. There was a bit of back and forth, I never raised my voice. It was obvious to the receptionist thatI needed help. I was worked in. So what I had to wait!! They had other appointments. The next available was three weeks away. They worked me in!! They cared. The intake professional got me the doctor’s appointment two days later.

So, my partner got transferred to Northside for inpatient care. I was worried about him especially after reading all the reviews. As far as my experience with the facility there were pros and cons. Cons: It did take… forever to get ahold of a receptionist on the phone and when I finally did, they were unable to tell me when visitation hours were. I got disconnected after she transferred me, but I was able to call back quickly, because she did provide me with an extension number. Now, I'm not sure who picked up the phone, but when I asked if and when visitation hours were they just said 6. I assumed that they meant visitation was UNTIL 6pm. I arrived at the facility around 1pm and was then told that visitation hours were from 7pm-8pm. The miscommunication was frustrating, but I think the communications I had afterward made up for all of it. Pros: I was able to talk to someone about the miscommunication about the timing issue and was fortunate enough to have been able to catch my partner's case worker right after he had been given permission to contact me. Joseph was truly amazing. I cannot begin to describe how profession and reassuring he was for this very stressful situation. I was not only able to talk about my partner's case, but they were also gracious enough to allow me a short visit with my partner just to make sure that he was alright. He was attentive, helpful and just very reassuring. Joseph if you see this, please know that you have my deepest gratitude. So while some of the staff may be lax, for anyone who has a loved one in inpatient care, I can at least attest that they are getting excellent care.

Absolutely horrible service! NEVER answer the phone and when they do, NOBODY knows anything! I did have a FEW good counselors but other than that, staff is rude and clueless to say the least. I do NOT recommend!
