Inpatient Rehab Centers in Florida

Inpatient treatment for drug and alcohol use is the subject of this page. It does not cover the physical rehabilitation hospitals that care for people after a stroke, surgery or injury. Inpatient here means 24-hour care with medical staff on site, delivered in a hospital unit or a medically monitored program.

Florida’s inpatient listings lean toward the coast: 72 percent of programs sit within 25 miles of the shoreline, at a median of 4.8 miles. The listings draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details providers send in themselves. They show levels of care, payment types, insurers, accreditation, languages and populations served.

Which Florida cities have inpatient rehabs?

Inpatient rehab listings in Florida cluster in Jacksonville, Punta Gorda, Temple Terrace, University and Pinellas Park. Checking a program's address first makes visits easier to plan. Miami, Orlando and West Palm Beach are the larger cities nearby, worth weighing when arranging travel for relatives or the trip home after discharge.

Do inpatient rehabs in Florida accept Medicaid?

Most of the inpatient rehabs in Florida record accepting Florida Medicaid, though the answer can differ from one program to the next. Coverage usually runs through a managed care health plan, so asking the admissions team which plans they work with is a sensible first call.

Sunshine Health, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna Better Health and Florida Community Care are among the participating plans. Members can ask their own plan whether an inpatient stay needs approval in advance.

What does inpatient treatment for substance use look like in Florida?

Inpatient treatment for substance use disorder in Florida means staying overnight in a licensed setting where nurses and physicians are available around the clock. The Florida Department of Children and Families licenses providers of substance use disorder services under Chapter 397, Florida Statutes, and Section 397.401 makes it unlawful to act as a provider under that chapter without a license.

Before admission, ask intake staff for the department license number and the services it covers. The department’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health office can answer questions about a provider’s license status. Listings also note whether a program offers hospital-based withdrawal management, psychiatric care and medication for opioid or alcohol use disorder.

Most of the inpatient programs listed in Florida are in town or urban settings, and very few are rural. Nearly all sit within 30 miles of an airport, a median of 9.9 miles away, and President Donald J. Trump International Airport in Palm Beach, Tampa International and Orlando International are the nearest for many of them.
