Will a program in Florida continue my psychiatric medications?

Medication continuity is one of the most important questions to raise before admission in Florida. Ask whether the program will continue antipsychotics, mood stabilizers and long-acting injectables, and whether it supports buprenorphine, methadone or naltrexone for opioid or alcohol use disorder. Find out who prescribes on site, how the program coordinates with your current psychiatrist, and whether you should bring a medication list. Public mental health care in Florida runs through the Department of Children and Families Substance Abuse and Mental Health Program, the single state authority. The department passes funding to regional Managing Entities, which contract with local network service providers. Florida Medicaid generally covers mental health and substance use care, and most members get it through a Statewide Medicaid Managed Care plan. The Agency for Health Care Administration runs the program, and the current contracts began February 1, 2025.
